New Dragon Fruit Hybrid “Ecuador Palora x Connie Mayer” Fruit Successfully Took
Hi dragon fruit world, I am excited to release a video of my latest dragon fruit hybrid project. Big thanks to Edgar Valdivia for calling me up and encouraging me to create this hybrid with a cross between Ecuador Palora and Connie Mayer. Special thanks as well to Alik Shulman for donating the one and only last Connie Mayer flower for this project. Although both flowers didn’t fully open due to the cold weather, I am thrilled to see that the fruit took, and Palora accepted the Connie Mayer pollen - you never know, but sometimes you just have to try! Enjoy the video, and follow along as I have more exciting new hybrids coming. Happy growing, cheers! #dragonfruit #pitaya #pitahaya #superfoo...

Follow along as I share the journey of a unique Vietnamese yellow-skinned dragon fruit that Kim Phan gave me in October 2023. It’s rare to see this variety imported into U.S. grocery stores, and its flavor is exceptional, very sweet with notes of lemonade and coconut, and a Brix of 19.05. Fast forward one year, and I’m excited to report that the seedlings have grown beautifully and are thriving...

Most importantly, always remember to source your varieties from reputable growers. Here’s the list of varieties and my sources: From Edgar Valdivia: 1. Polyrhizus from Nicaragua (one of the first dragon fruit varieties that Edgar grew over 20 years ago) From Kim Phan: 1. Marce...

Просмотров 1,4 тыс.Месяц назад
I received a call from my mentor, Edgar Valdivia, to go to his house and collect a flower of his favorite Epiphyllum variety "Takuan" known for its vibrant orange flower. It’s rare for Epiphyllum to bloom this late in the season, making this opportunity special. I took the entire flower with me to attempt cross-pollination with a dragon fruit flower, aiming to create a unique variety with an or...

Back in December 2021, I acquired several Asunta 7 seedlings from Edgar Valdivia, and tonight another one finally flowered! The stigma is quite far from the anther, similar to the characteristic of Asunta 4. Many of you already know about the first Asunta 7 seedling that fruited last year, which Edgar himself approved after testing. I can't wait to test out this new Asunta 7 sister and see how ...

much appreciated, and thanks for the support!
I am very impressed with your dedication to growing seedlings. You are teaching them the whole process This is helping so many people, you are teaching them in a very clear and organized way. What a wonderful mentor you are for all the people who love the dragon fruit. I hope your dreams with this new fruit will be successful. Edgar
Hi Edgar, thank you so much for being a great mentor to me. I am excited to see the results of our collaboration in cultivating new dragon fruit varieties with beautiful flowers and great-tasting fruits. Cheers! Charles
How does dk16 compare with Diego’s desert king?
I imported my DK #16 directly from Steven Prowse, the owner of Cactus Fruits Australia (CFA) in Queensland, Australia. Diego's full name is Diego Melendez, and he resides in Southern California. We have known each other for years now. Both varieties are completely different!
If there is a list to buy cuttings in the future please add me.
what I will recommend is please check back on leewifarms.com for available varieties!
Did the fruit set?
yes it does, and here's the follow up video: ruclips.net/video/6QaLVXprvUY/видео.html
What variety po yan sir ...
It is a new cross of Epiphyllum with dragon fruit, creating a new hybrid in progress.
There is no point in keep doing hybrids if the brix score not crossing 22 which we already have likes of Palora etc.
What a silly comment...not everyone aims for high brix... Some people aim for unique flower, disease resistant, unique fruit colours, complex flavours,etc..BRIX is not the best indicator for a good dragonfruit...even an 18 brix American beauty will taste 10X better than 20+BRIX Palora for 90% of people
This is awesome. Let us know if you sell cuttings later at some point
please do check our website leewifarms.com for cuttings availability.
Which trellising system do you like more? The single long row poles or the one large pot wooden ones?
the single long row yields higher production rates compared to large wooden pot ones but they offer a more attractive look!
im so glad this color combo for dragonfruit exists now
I am too, and thank you!
That’s so amazing!! I saw Edgar talking about this orange flower in Richard Lee’s video. Wow hopefully you create a orange flower dragonfruit masterpiece 😮
yes and that's Edgar's wish, he gave me few seedlings of the Orange Flower epi that he crossed with Sugar Dragon and Robles Red, plus this one that I crossed with Cindy Beauty so three in total now. We will evaluate these, and hopefully I will have the luck to discover an Orange flower dragon fruit variety soon!
@@leewifarms I wish you luck in finding that desirable variety! 🙏🏽🐉
Watch out those Alik Shulman Ax & Laverne Red will take off and take over your pots ☺️ ❤Ax huge branches and super thick, ready to support lbs of WeighT 😊
yes, you have to be well prepared lol
Definitely have to get some of these new varieties. Looking forward to the cuttings when they're available. Happy growing and cheers!
yo Thomas, and thank you! there are plenty of varieties are available on our website leewifarms.com

Interesting, but a little closer view of the main product - Asunta7, would have been nice.
@@earlysda you can go to my profile and look for the “Community” tap I have several posts of Asunta 7.
You sold A7 official cuttings last year, you will sell A7 New official cuttings again? Maybe next year there’s another Official or another color flower A7
The A7 (White Flower) has now received the name "Jellybean Breeze". Meanwhile, the A7 (Red Flower) will hold the "Official" title of Asunta 7.
Amazing guys. GOD BLESS YOU FROM MALTA

do you cover your dragon fruits for the winter? do you take any steps to protect them in the winter in southern california winters? do they need any protection from cold and light frost?
I do not, I leave them outside as is.
My friend I think you the only man that did it I use say why not it would be beautiful I m so grateful you did it👏
much appreciated and thanks for the support!
any update on fruit on this one?
I did a community post today 10/19/24, the fruit set and ready for harvest after 50 days on the vine!
Great! you are the pioneer of Yellow/Red Dragon fruit. Congrats
thank you so much for your kind word, much appreciated!
Yes beautiful let us know if you release i would love to have in my collection ❤
sure thing, please check on leewifarms.com for updates!
Isn't Cindy Beauty self fertile and self pollinating? You didn't remove its anthers to prevent it from pollinating itself.
I probably should, but I covered the flower to prevent any external factors (like wind or bees) from introducing anything other than the orange epi pollen that I put in to the stigma. We'll see!
@leewifarms but you didn't collect Cindy Beauty pollen, so it could still pollinate itself. You won't know for sure if it set fruit with epi pollen or it's own pollen until after you finally get fruit from the seedling. When I cross pollinate the self fertile ones to create hybrid, I always cut the anthers off before the flower opens. That way, the pollen is still attached to the anthers. I'll also remove the petals and just leave the stigma. Then pollinate and bag it with the mesh bag. Keep us posted on your result.
Awesome 👍
and thank you!
Can you share me one branches ofEpiphyllum orange please thanks you
I don't have anything to share at the moment, please check back on our website leewifarms.com for epi cuttings including "Takuan" variety.
Hoping to get the Orange color flower? Or any other characteristics?
you read my mind, and yes that's the hope!
Im going to Try to Cross to get Same Resolve.... hopefully 😅
Best of luck!
I did something similar, but I am using a pitaya from jalisco for the polen and vietnam White for the mother
Nice one!
Yo 🫰💗
Excellent work!
I was thinking about getting some property in NJ to grow some rare stuff myself
@@shawns0762 Sounds like a good idea. I'd plant out citrus hybrids, cold hardy pomegranates, persimmons, jujubes, some of the larger hardy kiwi, stuff like that. If you build and heat a greenhouse you can plant tropicals
@@raregrowsNJ I am really into the brambles, I have a lot including wineberries and thimbleberries. I plan to grow peaches, kiwis, passion fruit, pawpaws, ground cherries, juneberries, strawberries, blueberries, mulberries, cherries etc.
