Hi could you proof read my speech. My wedding is in January 25 and would like a professional to review it

Have you uploaded any videos or clips of yourself actually giving a speech? I would love to see one if so because you give great advice. I'm currently enrolled in a public speaking course so that's how I found your content and I'm glad I did because it's really helped with our current assignment which is giving a celebration speech. so thank you!

I'm not sure a father of the bride speech should ever be a roast. Even a little bit of a roast is too much imho.

Beth, this has been an absolute Rolls Royce quality guide for me as my daughter gets married in Nov 2024. For the last year I have been making notes of fun events of her childhood in my phone notes app to potentially use a few of. I have the added stress that my own father in law will be present, who thinks he's the worlds best speech writer and presenter. He made one at my wedding that was 17minutes long, two of my friends commented that they thought it would never end! So I need to get this right. I feel equipped now to construct a sincere and I hope slightly funny speech. I thank you.

Thanks Beth my speech went down a storm thanks to you My advice remember to breathe speak slower and clearer than you would normally speak remember to pause for laughs the first minute adrenaline rush is the worst but keep saying to yourself’ I got this ‘ important to get a few laughs in right away to build confidence and get the audience onside ‘ I am the FOB ‘ and raise hands for applause Was terrified of a mic but found it actually helped, people really appreciate real life things that actually happened and not manufactured Remember people are on your side and want the same end result and really do want to hear what you have to say do all this with loads of funnies be upbeat with compassion for your daughter and it will be a triumph and most important get in the zone and lastly practice practice practice

I dont agree with ur advice about a speech being 5mins. Thats too short. The best ones ive seen are 9-12mins

Probably one of the best and most up to date advise videos! I was just watching one recommending the speech to be 10+ minutes! IMO 5 minutes would be the limit if you have other guest speaking. Maybe 3 minutes ideally

This guy is a natural so it's easy peasy for him.

According to your guidelines, the father's speech seems rather too long even though it was funny with the numerous stories. Starting off by apologising for not being a public speaker was indeed a ruse for him to hogg the limelight that he seemed to be enjoying. Do remember there are others waiting in the wings for their turn to speak.

5mins is too short

Hey Beth Great tips. Your review of the best father of the bride speech, that speech was way long and intimidating. The video is near half hour. I'm so glad you said here shoot for 5 minutes, I've just relaxed. Broken into the sections 6 minutes it doesn't give room for a whole lot of stories and I speak fast. But I'm happy with 5 mins, I think long speeches aren't a good idea for either speakers or listeners.
