The first step would be to make x the subject of the second equation. x = (2-y)/3. Now substitute this value of x into the first equation and solve for y. Let me know what answer you get from this!

If we separate those three terms into: 2, x+3, and x^2-7, we see that those three multiply to 0. Since 2 is not equal to 0, either x+3 = 0 or x^2-7 = 0, so that the entire product is equal to 0. The 2 is insignificant in this case; it could be any other constant (apart from 0) but we would still have either x+3 = 0 or x^2-7 = 0, so that the three terms would multiply to 0. I hope this makes sense now!
