    Appreciated the succinct overview. Nicely done. While it's your right to proclaim your Christian beliefs, it made your reporting biased and suspect. Also, when you said Chicago protestors "provoked" the police, the reality is that the police were locked and loaded and ready for combat per Mayor Daley. Rubin and Hoffman didn't help with comments that they were there to urinate, defecate and fornicate in the streets.

    • @notgrasshistory
      @notgrasshistory 5 месяцев назад

      Hi Liya! The "America the Beautiful" curriculum includes two textbooks. Part 1 has 75 lessons beginning with life in America before Europeans came and continuing through the first years after the Civil War. Part 2 also has 75 lessons beginning with the late 1800s and continuing to the present. So there are a total of 150 lessons in both texts.

    I've been reading these books to my daughter. I'm a working class musician in farm laborer with a very humble life, a single dad. We have been captivated by these books. I dream deep in my heart of building a little cabin for us on some land. Last night we read the first few chapters of "By The Shores Of Silver Lake". I won't spoil it for you, but I can say that by the end of chapter 2 both of us were weeping

    Laura´s books reached many children in the world. I related the challenges her family faced with my family difficulties in Brazil, her parents were as dedicated and wise as mine and her words helped me and supported me during my childhood. They were my favorite (and most of the times my only) Christmas gift. The power of literature!

    Will students learn the geography of the U.S., state capitols, etc., through the Map Study book or will they be expected to know them already before going into America the Beautiful?

    • @notgrasshistory
      @notgrasshistory Год назад

      Hi, Melissa! "America the Beautiful" introduces students to various aspects of U.S. geography--mountain ranges, major rivers, national parks, and more. It does not specifically teach state capitals, and students do not have to know them to complete the course. We do cover state capitals in our elementary geography course, "Our 50 States".

    I remember reading the entire series as a 10 year old to 11 year old little girl. I would read a chapter a night to my three younger brothers before bed. We were always excited to read and hear the next chapter! We would always read two chapters during any holiday time off from school, as we didn't have to be in bed as early. It turned me into an avid reader and story teller! It also made three young busy boys better listeners, lol! I read these same books to my own 7 children and every time I read it, it floods me back to my youth. I now have 6 grandchildren that I wish I could continue the tradition, but they live 5 hours away. I have decided next year, when my oldest granddaughter turns 10, I will give her, her own set of Laura Ingalls Wilder books to read and hopefully cherish as I did!
