Ruger SFAR .308 Runnin on Gas Setting 2!!
Canik rules
ramline polymer stock. dont see very many of those on video.
Good eye!! You got that absolutely correct! Unfortunately it has had a hairline crack right in front of the triangle butt stock for years. It finally broke a couple weeks ago. So I just made it shorter....alot shorter if you know what I mean? It's a shame because I highly doubt I can find another one like it for a reasonable price? Thanx for watching.
@@dabears52501 you just might be able to on gunbroker, i recently picked up the old school ATI folding stock because my wooden stock had a huge crack and it finally gave out after years of being used and taken apart. I’ve seen a few of those ramlines up for less than 100 but they’re missing the upper handguard. for some reason it seems like it was common back then just to sell the stock and handguard separate.
It's definitely looking pretty awesome!! Can't wait to see it at the range for you!!
The boy, my wife & I have shot about 450 rounds out of it already! Zero malfunctions. Mostly 115 Winchester white box. Very lightweight. Very accurate. Recoil is very slight compared to my .40. Comp makes it shoot very flat. Very little muzzle flip. All I did is run a rag down the barrel & started feeding it 9mm!! Canik made a hell of a pistol with this one. Didn't film anything. We were all just having too much fun!!! 👍
good stuff 👌
It's looking AND shooting GREAT!!! I LOVE IT!!!! 👍🔥
Good hits and steel!!
It was a blast. Literally. But I think the SFAR is even better. It's also 80 year old newer technology so that says something??? LOL 😂
@@dabears52501 yah that's freaking awesome!
That is impressive!!
Actually it was very impressive! No malfunctions on gas setting 2. & did not rise near as much as my 7.62x39 SKS. I anticipated the gun to really raise up quick but it just sat in my shoulder. Most rounds hit low because I thought I had to hold it down. Nope. 308 just hittin flat as hell. Ruger did something amazing when it's working right. That was my last function test. Time to move on to accuracy. 👍
That’s sick man!!
@triggerbarPhD it's lookin awesome IMO. My opinion is biased.....LOL! In the process of finding FDE takedown pins, bolt release, mag release, dust cover, forward assist, & safety selector. Should make it look even sicker!!
Killer
Promo-SM 👍
Huh????
Every time you empty that mag there goes $50 at a minimum. But it's so much fun!
It definitely was a shooting experience I will never forget....but yes very expensive! My SKS 75 round drum costs about $30 to dump. That's with old surplus steel case. 3 years ago I bought 5,000 rounds of 7.62x39 steel case for 0.38 a round. I'm down to around 3,000 rounds now. When that's gone it will be around a $1 a round for brass. Imported steel case is getting real hard to find. Just imagine if I loaded the .308 50 drum with Hornady Superformance??? That would be almost $125 for 15 seconds of fun. I doubt I dump the D50 .308 very much...unless I can find some decent ammo for cheap, cheap??? Thanx for checking out the build. 👍
I'd say it was the best $75 I've ever spent in 17 seconds. I've never shott a rifle that fast, smooth & under control as that! It was amazing! That was a full 50 rounds of PMC Bronze 150gr soft points. I'm convinced this rifle is good to go. I trust it now. I honestly think you got a bad batch of Federal Gold Medal Match 168gr ammo. I would love for you to try a brand new box & see if it does better?? It still blows my mind you have issues with it??? LOL
You will see tomorrow with the 20", It ran everything flawlessly except that 168 again. Just weird. My 2 SFARs don't like that.
@publicdefender77 I would try a new box with different lot number. My boxes look different than yours.I really am amazed at how well & fast mine ran those 50! I started low on the man size paper target because I expected it to rise up like crazy being .308. To my amazement itstayed really flat. Some in the middle actually hit dirt right in front of target. That is just crazy!! That powerful of round that fast, that flat. My SKS goes from waist to head in 10 to 15 rounds!! I'm almost at a loss for words. That's just the AR platform I guess?? Frickin awesome!! LOL
@dabears52501 This is my 4th box. The box from my last video is 2 years old. They will run just not strong enough for lock back
@@publicdefender77I still don't understand how that is probably my best performing bullet in the same rifle??? I guess just run what works in your own rifle & life is good!! 👍
@@dabears52501 yea, it definitely is a headscratcher. I do tend to shoot cheaper ammo than that stuff, so I'm ok sticking with the cheap stuff.
Awesome! Looks like its running like a top! How many did you run through the drum? would you say that was well worth it?
Yes it was! That was all 50 rounds in about 17 seconds.
Sorry what did you convert it from? I’m not familiar with this.
Hi-point 10mm carbine I bought for $200. It was so ugly I had to change it! LOL. People talk alot of smack about Hi-point but I'll tell you this....I've shot close to 1,000 rounds through it. Never cleaned it. Just spray lube a couple times. Absolutely ZERO malfunctions with every kind of 10mm you can get even +P.
Awesome bull pup!!
Thanx! It's a fun plinker range toy. The trigger is garbage. I need to figure something out on that??
That is encouraging. Stock or did you have to upgrade things to get it running reliable?
Stock. Just had to install ges regulator Ruger got to me in 3 days. Over 300 rounds on the new regulator. Working good so far. Over 500 total on the rifle. Early 13k serial number.
@@dabears52501 Many, many thanks. Enjoy. I harvested a decent 9 point with mine opening day. I haven't taken mine off #3 yet over 250 rounds.
@guardianminifarm8005 congrats on the nice buck. I can't use .308 on deer in Iowa but I can coyote! Your enough rounds in to start switching to setting 2. Get some good .308 & run it. You'll love setting 2. Less gas, less recoil. If you have issues? Ruger customer service is phenomenal.
So glad the new regulator is working!!! What ammo in the previous video and what ammo in this video are you running? Thanks again for posting these!!
When I was trying to get it to work in the previous shorts I was running the best I could find at the time. Federal Gold Medal Match 168gr. The 10 rounds in this video is cheap Magtech 150gr fmj! I've also ran different Match ammo in 168gr & 3 different 180gr on setting 2 since regulator replacement all running great. I did have one box of Perfecta 147gr that cycled fine but no last round bolt hold. I think that was ammo related or 147gr is just a hair light?? Need to test that some more. I'm pretty happy right now. Even got a double tap on steel at that distance. Pretty fun!!
@@dabears52501looks awesome! Yah I bet that weak ammo is in the 7.62 nato range. Have you been able to find any of that ammo? At any rate glad it’s working for you!!
@triggerbarPhD yeah I think the Perfecta 147gr is pretty weak stuff. I might get another box just to confirm? I picked up a box of Hornady Superformance 150gr SST that's 3,000 fps at the muzzle. & some Hornady Match bthp 168gr to test as well.
@triggerbarPhD I'm having a hard time finding 7.62x51mm locally???
Dang that’s frustrating. It looked much better but I’m guess too little gas. They really need a setting between 2 and 3!! What ammo?
The setting 3 & 2 shorts were Federal Gold Medal Match 168gr.
It looks a little over gassed on 3. Beautiful place you are shooting!! Thanks for posting these!!!
Definitely gassy on 3. More recoil also. That's my Inlaws farm. I have stuff set up to shoot just have to move it around the cows! LOL
This is redemption for Ruger & my SFAR. I was having FTF issues after break in. New gas regulator from Ruger & it's runnin FAST & FLAWLESS!!! 👍
This is awesome!
Did they mail it or did you have to send the whole rifle in?
@yakkintyler7293 15 minutes on the phone with Ruger & it was in my mailbox 3 days later. Phenomenal customer service. 20 minutes to replace regulator Allen wrench & 1/16" punch right on my home workbench.
@@dabears52501 awesome thank you brother! I love my Ruger SFAR but the setting 3 to much setting 2 not enough
@yakkintyler7293 exactly how mine felt. Even after 230 rounds using Federal Gold Medal Match 168gr still slightly undergassed on setting 2. Mines an early 13k serial number if that helps??
The charging handle is a beauty
Yes it is nice. Thanx for the comment. That Magpul MOE+ grip has a rubberized texture fits so great in the hand & doesn't slip. The FDE cerekote on the magazine is nice too IMO 👍
@@dabears52501 I'm saving up to get one. I don't know if i want the 16" or the 20" Any advice? Thank you
@MDarso that all depends on what you want the rifle to do? The 16 is a great suppressor host. The 20 is a good dedicated hunting rifle. I've seen both take moose so the 16's a hunter too. I got the 16 as a kind of do it all gun. Light maneuverable target/plinker. Ring steel out to 500 yards. Longer range perimeter property defense or get down & dirty up close quickly. Also a good SHTF rifle. I can bug out with decent magazine capacity & drop just about any North American large game. So really up to you. I think the 20 full length gas system is a little less finicky on ammo. It's such a tough decision....I might just get a 20 to go with my 16?? LOL
@@dabears52501 a 16 it is. I have no business shooting something at 500 yards anyway. But you killed me with ( i might get the 20 also ) 🤣 I totally understand Thank you
Dude your optic is 2 feet above the gun
LOL. Right. I was very limited on optic mounts & scope options due to the design of the SKS. I hated it! It's gone & back to iron sights. I bought a Ruger SFAR in .308 with a 1-10 lpvo for longer ranges. It's better suited for optics.
How reliable has the drum been?
Pretty good actually. Kind of a pain to load. Not sure how many turns it takes to wind spring properly. I started with 3 full turns & was weak towards the end so changed to 4 full turns & better now. I need to get a vid up dumping all 75 rounds.
Ran 65 straight through it twice now. No issues. So pretty reliable.
Absolutely. You should see 20 rounds on gas setting 2!! It doesn't move much more than my SKS. VERY low felt recoil for .308! I gotta get a vid up of me shooting it one handed.
Hopefully mine runs on setting 2, but we'll see.
Setting 2 is AMAZING....when it works! Way less recoil than any other .308 I've ever shot but those were bolt actions so not the same. My buddy says it thumps way less than his Bear Creek AR-10. Just talking about it wants me to go shoot!! LOL. I won't have time this weekend unfortunately.
Shoots flat! Unbelievably flat!
Love that drum!
YES!! Hard to find nowadays with import bans. It was out of stock for almost a year. I got an email notification it was back in stock. I got one instantly. Sold out 30 minutes later!! GEEZ
Nice! I like the tan furniture... definitely provides some great contrast.
Thank you. I'm looking for a FDE buttstock but I want half fde half black not full fde. Thanx for watching & the compliment!
Where did you get that FDE Magazine from?
I believe it was Harms Arms. I was hoping it was molded in fde plastic but it's just a coating. Seems to be pretty durable though. No knicks or scratches yet.
@@dabears52501Thanks! I just ordered some for my Ruger SFAR!! Love the design you have! Gonna do mine very similar, except with a little more FDE 😂
@richcity1812 I'm thinking of going FDE handguard & cheek rest then I'm done with it.....maybe???? LOL 🤣
Before I buy the wrong stuff... So do I get the AR-15 radian CH or the AR-10? Also looking to replace the buffer tube, ambi safety, CMC trigger with a lighter pull, and handguard
All of those items are M-16/AR-15 components. One of the best features of the SFAR....so many AR-15 compatibility. Everything but bcg, barrel & lower receiver are. H1 or H2 buffer are good. Tubbs flat wire buffer spring works well in my buddy's rifle. Mine changes have all been on the outside. I haven't touched anything internally yet.
@@dabears52501 awesome. Thanks bud
Nice barrel grip! Where did you get it?
Magpul m-lok angle foregrip
He did the same to me in number 2, that's how I bought it, I thought it was a defect in the weapon, which position do you recommend?
Setting 3 is for break in & some 7.62x51mm. Most gas allowed on 3. Setting 2 is supposed to be for most commercial .308 except mine doesn't. New gas regulator from Ruger just arrived. Setting one is for suppressors.
I think the new regulator fixed it? 100 rounds of various ammo & rifle is functioning flawless!!! 🤞
Awesome
This bullpup conversion proves you can polish a turd!! LOL. The gun is a Hi-point 10mm carbine but you would never know it now!! This carbine eats every ammo even +P flawlessly. The only complaint I have is limited magazine capacity. 10 rounds that's all that available. Would LOVE a 50 rnd drum mag for it!
Give us some shooting videos bro
I'd like to. I'm not really set up for shooting vids. It's usually just me. Only reasoning put up these crappy one handed videos is a guy from Switzerland wanted to see my SFAR & a couple other guns. I do have one of the 10mm bullpup I can put up. Will try to get some with the Ruger but no guarantees. Thanx for watching.
what charging handle is that?
Radian Raptor flat dark earth color
The package says: Raptor AR15/M16 FDE. The part number might be R0003 on the Radian website. Ambidextrous charging handle.
Looks great! I like what you did. Been out shooting with it yet?
I've got 100 rounds through it. 147gr Armscor .308 fmj. Gas setting 3. So far it's performed very well. No malfunctions. I need to switch to setting 2 & run a couple hundred more through it. Make sure it's gonna be reliable. I will say for a factory trigger it's pretty damn good & it's fast. That and the lightweight are the most impressive so far. Thanx for checking out the build.
@dabears52501 yea, I look forward to hearing how your break in goes. I am at 190 rounds so far.
@publicdefender77 there's been a few guys have trouble with feed issues after switching to setting 2....& a dozen or so reviews with no issues?? I sure hope mine does good after the time & money I've put into the damn thing!! Where were these issues last December when I ordered mine??? It was all great reviews??
i like the handguard & drum 👍
I bought that gun years back for $100. The guy I bought it from already had the poly stock, detachable 30 round mags & dust cover scope mount on it with some piece of crap 3x revolver scope or something. I put the drum on & upgraded the optic w/ laser. It came with all the #'s matching hardware to put back to factory original except the wood stock. I can change it back if I buy a wooden stock but why would I?? You wanna talk about a fun range gun that's an absolute pleasure to shoot....this is the one!! 👍
@@dabears52501 id love to see a video of it in use
@schlorp I'm planning on filming a vid of both the SKS & Ruger SFAR lightweight AR-10 in action. I just got the SKS back from a little freshing up. New firing pin. Bolt & carrier clean up & neck & throat job so definitely need to get out & put some rounds through it.
Very nice
It's looking good & shooting great!! Thanx for checking it out!! 👍
Looking good! I need to update yall on mine soon!
Definitely! 👍
That thang will be right if you put a FDE buttstock on it!!! I like it, good job.
I don't know if I want the whole stock FDE? Magpul does make a cheek rest in that color. Might put that on. Thanx for checking it out.
great rifle with those FDE accents 👍 which LPVO is it?
I went with the best I could afford right now. It's a Sightmark Citadel 1-10x. Got it for a little under $400. The glass & focus is crystal clear from 1 to 10. The eye relief is picky & no way to adjust it. A Luepold 1-6x is like $2,500...so for the money it's pretty good. I'm up to almost 100 rounds & the .308 hasn't shook it apart yet??
@@dabears52501 i heard the Citadel series are good optics at low cost, makes perfectly sense for a rifle like the SFAR 👍 Eye relief is always a bit a problem when it comes to 1-8x or 1-10x. I am happy with my Arrowhead so far, wish I would have gone with the 1-8x…that would easily do the job.
@FreerideHellDriver eye relief is not good even on 1 power. I may need to raise the optic another 1/2"? I think that would help. Other than that it's a pretty damn good lpvo for the money.
