Honestly banding is just extremely broken.
I never stopped using banding, and it's one of the main reason white weenie is my favorite deck archetype. A great non-banding creature to use with a banding strategy is Legions' Deftblade Elite. A 1-drop white weenie with both a damage prevention activated ability and provoke. Pair it with a Benalish hero, Kjeldoran warror, or Icatian infantry and they can go on little assassination runs with impunity.
Yeah. There are some quite amazing modern creatures that work well with banding.
Is this rare footage of Aland drinking cola or do you gave him a very dark Finish beer? 😂
I can't remember what he was drinking, but judging by the glass, it is not cola. If I remember correctly, soda is not sold in that venue in mugs with handles. But who knows, maybe he needed a refresher between beers.
Does the forces terminology not matter here? Land’s Edge says may.
Both Land's Edge's and Library of Leng's texts have been changed since these prints. Now Edge is an activated ability that says: "Discard a card: If the discarded card was a land card, Land’s Edge deals 2 damage to target player or planeswalker. Any player may activate this ability." And Library starts with: "If an effect causes you to discard a card,". So the forcing is not an issue here.
Wow, so much power cards and such a boring match.
if i have a 1/1 and a 7/6 in a band attacking and the blocking opponent blocks the band with a 10/9 could i allocate all of the damage to the 1/1 or does the damage go to the 7/6 when the 1/1 dies?
Yes, you can put all the damage to the 1/1 and let your big creature go unharmed.
Love this 🍻
Great match - enjoyed the commentary and banter! More please!🍻
Glad you enjoyed it. More will come as soon as there are tournaments that need covering.
The Dark was my first exposure to Magic. It still remains a favourite in regards of tone and aesthetics.
I used to torment a friend with *Paralyze* back in the day. He loathed having to pay the untap cost, regardless of how much mana he had.
That mana cost has a surprising psychological effect on players. Even paying it once and putting the creature on blocking duty is a big cost for some.
I miss the time when this guy, Serra Angel and Shivan Dragon were the faces of Magic.
Pre-revisionist Magic lore? Count me in!
see but they added storm to one of the newest planeswalkers of bloomburrow, so a guy can dream
The match was HOT!
What an amazing video, thanks 🙏
I still run Hurloon in old school
Man, both decks were awesome, but I just cant get over Teros beautiful legendaries! What a legend!
Was a boy in 94-96...aside from terror, sengir vampire, remove soul, this is the card I fell in love with...I make deck box with hurloon minotaur on it...on top of the box,I put a note that says "you and what army"...still have my hurloons on my old school deck played with friends most weekends...anyway cheers from Philippines
Hi. Does anyone know where they have ordered the playmats? Br
The organizers let me know that they were made by Custom Playmats. custom-playmat.shop/en/
Gaining the lifes from that swords at 7:50 could have changed that tight game as well.
Game 1, that balance should have killed one more land of the robots player.
You are absolutely correct. Lauri accidentally counted the Mox as a land and that was missed completely.
Hi, how do you make the painy stick on the card ?
Posca markers have enough coverage and can stick on their own. I do use a cheap spray can matte varnish to seal the card. A very light coat to make sure the paint doesn't ever come off.
@@shivan-librarian Thanks for the answer, last time I tried I had issues with this, I need to give it a new try.
Okay this is broken, too bad it's on comically overcosted mnions.
There are many ways to get banding. Such as the helmet shown at the end or my favotire Baton of Morale, which is just 2 mana target creature gets banding. No tap like the helm. There is also a good amount of creatures with banding tht are not incredibly overcosted.
Nice games! So tight with Juhis down just waiting for that one bolt to ruin his day!
i have 2 aladdin decks. deck1: 4 aladdin 4 gorilla shaman 4 shattering pulse 4 mycosynth lattice 4 liquimetal coating 4 liquimetal torque 4 fireball 4 fanning the flames 4 ragavan, nimble pilpherer 24 lands(24 mountains) deck2: 4 dwarven miner 4 dwarven blastminer 4 army ants 4 orcish settlers 4 helldozer 2 trench wurm 2 mine layer 4 wake of destruction 4 royal assassin 4 aladdin 24 lands(4 westvale abbey, 12 dual lands, 4 mountain, 4 swamp)
Dang. Those are some to-the-point type of decks. You are making a point with those lists.
@@shivan-librarian deck: blow up or gain controll of all of opponents permanents and relatively fast. via turning things into artifacts. deck2: blow up all oppponents lands, but also some creatures and take artifacts. and if in an emergency state can win with westvale abbey. all creatures deck so relatively easy to transform westvale abbey. their was heaviest emphasis on land destruction because usually this is one of the most plentiful card types in play.
solid games from two groovy players.cheers for this episode mate
Great to see Rasputin Dreamweaver in action 🍻
We've been talking about Rasputin Reanimator with different ways of abusing the extra mana, and Tuukka was the first to actually do something proper with it.
Love the Tuukkas way to flip the orb! No pressure, casualy giving the orb MORE air than where it started the flip :D.
Yeah, that is a confident flip
Interesting last turn. I wonder if there was a chance for Timo to play around the double bolt at the end.
I might be wrong, but I think he said he had a blue elemental blast in hand. If he did not play out the Chaos Orb, he would’ve been able to counter one of the bolts. It was a nailbiter!
Yes, absolutely right. I expected that if Lauri tutored up a Mind Twist, I’d need to have the orb on the board before my hand gets twisted away. I didn’t realize he already had so much burn in hand. What a crazy last turn.
@@Iksa-9394I tutored one of the lightning bolts 😊
My revised fungusaur ability says different, now I'm confused which rulings il go with...hope il get an explanation from this 😅
Always play with the current Oracle text. Check it on either Gatherer or Scryfall.
@@shivan-librarian current text makes it more abusive...glad it's no longer complicated...tnx
Haha what a turn 1 for Lauri in game 1
So groovy you streamed this mate, cheers
Awesome video! You showed us your whole journey, pack opening, trading, deck building, and the rounds. Very entertaining keep it up!
They need to bring back banding back its not confusing at all. They still print cards with storm an its 10 on the storm scall so print banding
I agree. Just do it sparingly and its fine
am i supposed to know who that is
You're in an old-school Magic the Gathering channel. I'd say you should at least know these two artists by name.
There are some differences between your explanation and my own interpretation of the rules, and I honestly have no Idea which is correct, could you expand on these points a bit more? 1. You say "nothing happens" when a creature loses banding midcombat. (6:08) But the rules seem to suggest that after losing banding neither of the damage step effects will work, for a defending band thats kinda obvious as the damage step is the only part where banding does anything, but if you attack, create a band, get blocked, lose banding and then go to damage step, doesn't your opponent get to assign their damage? 2. Your description of "bands with other" band creation is really confusing. (2:43) As far as I can tell you can make a band with *any amount* of "quality" creatures, of which at least 1 has "banding with other quality". I'm honestly not sure what that part of the video implies. 3. Also "the band must be formed ... in the declare blockers step when blocking" was kind of a throwaway comment at the end which I don't think many people paid attention to, but you don't declare bands when blocking at all, you just block with creatures and if one of them has banding you decide the damage from that attacker. This one I'm quite sure of.
1. A band will still exist even if all is members lose banding, but you only get to divide their damage if something still has it once you go to damage. 2. Correct. Bands with other will also only let you divide their damage if a "bands with <other>" and at least one <other> creature are blocking/being blocked by the same thing. This is a change from normal banding where you could single block a trample creature with something that has banding and still get to divide their damage. 3. You are correct.
I feel like the storm scale needs to be renamed at this point because Storm gets reprinted quite frequently (so frequently, that it's happened since this video released).
Banding is most powerful in Limited play.
I don't know why banding confused people. It's very straightforward.
Shout out to Tax Edge Inc. in the video description 😅😅
Had to subscribe for this one.
Band still is garbage mechanic
Phyrexian Obliterator
Stuffy Doll / Brash Taunter
I've been saying for years how I unironically want banding to make a comeback.
Also Mark Poole related you can see the Counterspell man on the painting in the background of Sage Owl (Weatherlight)
I have a changeling EDH deck with a bunch of tribal effects. Fortified area is in there :)
Mark Rosewater needs to watch this video. =/ Hopefully when he's gone we can get Banding back on some new cards.
