Just a little video on how and why I use copy cutters to create the legs for the Coffee Table. These are handy little things and are a real benefit to those who enjoy using routers. Enjoy !
MDF to Marquetry: Coffee Table PT 8 = Inverted Jigsawing
Просмотров 344 месяца назад
How to invert your jigsaw to get precise, quicker, better and less stressful movements with your jigsaw cutting. The actual sawing filming is more at the end and shows me cutting the actual legs. If you create a system like this, then don't forget your dust extraction, keep it to a minimal..! I have one on top in the arm and another below. Always improving..!
MDF to Marquetry: Coffee Table PT 7 Tracing Your Template
Просмотров 1214 месяца назад
After your template is cut, trimmed and refined to be just what you want, you'll need to use it to help you layout how many you'll need to make your project - with the material you have at hand or to order in. Templates are very hand and once created will become the bedrock of your project and therefore very important that there done right and good from the go..!

Just a little chat about the design of the coffee table and what started me off.
Hello! Nice job!!! What size are the half round routed cut outs please? Also the hole in the middle, do you use any special adaptor or connector to fit the tube from the vacuum unit cable? Thanks
Hey there, The half round router cutter 'Cut' outs have got to be as deep as the rubber. So I went in about 3-4mm. Width was around 10-12mm, The point is, is that the rubber can easy slide in and fill the curved edge and create a seal.. I used a brass ring with an extrusion on it, which fitted nicely into the pipe. If you got piping, then work with that first, The pipes take away the air, so there very important. So just make sure you seal everything or it can leak out. I placed a rubber O ring under my metal ring plate thing. And make sure you seal both sides of the MDF plate, or your vac will start to suck the air out of the MDF - and it will slow down the process and make leakages easier and on top of that - you will lose vac pressure sooner. Hope this helps - keep asking Q's - if you need more advice Im here for you..!! Kindest - MM <3
@@allaboutmarquetry Dear "MM" - thank you v much for responding and your insightful comments which are really much appreciated. I think your generosity of spirit in sharing your knowledge is much to be admired! I`m really minded to give this a go but my dimensions are limited to 1m x 0.7m which although much smaller than your table is large enough for my needs (marquetry). So, 2mm para-rubber means a 2mm "hole" or depression in the half-round or even 3mm - 4mm perhaps. So brass ring and the pipe slots into that and the ring into the MDF by the sounds of it. I have a vacuum pump lined up which is probably overkill for the size of this. The most expensive bit is the rubber. So as costing of (in GBP): MDF about 30. Rubber: 75. Pump. 60. I don`t have a half round router so have to pay someone to do that = 50. Workbench to put it on: 20. Total: 235. Compare that with trying to source a marquetry press which is not available except by special order or using some improvised book-binding press. Your needs are no doubt much greater than mine as I am just a hobbyist but am looking to commercialise my work. Sell it in others words. So perhaps 235 or 250 is not a bad bargain. I am sorely tempted! PS - the URL link to your website did not work for me. Is it still live? Thanks again!
I'm so curious how the table is going to look in the end! great project!😊
Hi, is there a second part?
I have about 8 or 9 videos - I just need to edit them and post them. This one was connected to a window method lesson I created - that's why I posted it, for the students. I can do more if you would like. Grts -Mm-
@@allaboutmarquetry Second part, when you cut a black part without holes between pieces is much more interesting.
Don't forget to watch it through, the inverted sawing is near the end of the video..!
good job
Very interesting process. First time I've seen something like this.
It works..! Ask John..! :)
The suspense is killing me!
you should try some finger boarding that climbers do to build callous on finger tips that way it will help with finger sorenes.
Thanks, so obvious when you think about it, but I wasn't, lol. Keep up the good work 👏
Im always happy to have helped ! <3
i appreciate your advice. Thanks.
It's good to see you. I hope you are doing well. I'm looking forward to this video series.
Whoops. I just found your video on sharpening scalpel blades! 😂
Enjoy, - let me know if you need any more help or tips. Grts Mm
You may discuss this in some other video but I see that you use a surgeons type scalpel with replaceable blades. Are those blades you employ single or double bevel? Etc….
Double edged.. :)
A good interesting video. Taking the time to systematically work through your process ahead of actually cutting wood takes dis ipline but in the end saves on waste and results in a much higher quality piece
Yes, indeed. Its about looking ahead and prioritizing were its more essential. Thank you for your support ! <3
Marcus, is bookmatching beyond the scope of our group? There are plenty of good vids around on a basic bookmatch, but I have not been able to find anything reliable on a simple 4-way match and I'm struggling to figure it out on my own. Might this be worth a demonstration video? If it's outside of the group's subject matter I fully understand. Thank you.
I will definitely look into this. Book matching is part of the advanced veneering skill set. Its generally used for furniture, but I have seen a few clever marquetry people use it as a subtle decorative back drop to their artwork... I will see if I can find some veneer books I have, if not I will order a few packs. Thank you for your input. I will get back to you and the channel ok. :) <3 Grts M <3
@@allaboutmarquetry Thank you. Marcus. I tht I would practice making some wall art pieces first before trying furniture. Love the channel.

Hello. I just discovered your channel. Thank you for your generosity with you time for making the videos. You refer to "lesson notes." Can you tell me where I can find those? Thank you.
The lesson notes are for those who have joined the marquetry course I am doing. However there are a few basic one that are available online. Our Facebook channel (All about Marquetry), has some files you can down load. Failing that find me on Reddit (Marquetry Advice) , Instagram (All about Marquetry) and send me a DM with your email and I can send some over. Thanks =Mm-
Marcus, thanks for posting your Marquetry videos. I have a question. Are you shadow casting veneer that has been glued to a substrate already? if yes , wouldn't the heat from the sand weaken the glue bond.
Thanks for your post and message, So far I have not seen any evidence of this happening. I have used basic wood glue, you could also use resin glues instead. But I would practice first and experiment :) Grts M
Excellent process. Thanks for sharing. This is something I have not seen before. May I ask where you learned about this?
I am a time served CabinetMaker from UK. I did my apprenticeship from 16 ( 34yrs ago now) and was trained by traditional master craftsmen. I have a lot of old and forgotten skills & passed down knowledge. Yet some, over the years has been self taught too - with dedication to the art <3 Thanks JB :)
I decided to upload this video, because I didn't see the point of you waiting around, especially as 1 & 2 are very similar. Just glad to help John TBH. <3
Well I appreciate learning something new that I have not seen here in the States. Keep up the good work.
@@johnobrien4014 Yes is it a different way of doing it. :) Im on FB, Instagram and Reddit too. Feel free to touchdown. Need help, let me know kk :)
Where can I find part 2?
I just posted Part 3 too, Why wait..?! - Enjoy and good luck with your projects..! :)
I just emailed you and messaged you in IG. :)
@@allaboutmarquetry got it, thanks
You should learn how to edit your videos so you can CUT out all your prep BS
It was a great and detailed video. I think you are a really good teacher and I’m glad I know you 😊 Ps.: your tweezers is awesome. Where did you get it?
There surgical, I think I bought them at some sort of army surplus store years ago..! Thank you <3
Great video Marcus
Hey there, more on the way ;) Thx <3
Another interesting video which makes you think about another part of the picture. Looking forward to the next part especially what you have decided what you are going for ship wise.
Thank you - I'm burning the candle at both ends :) and working on new content. Its up when its up - hopefully sooner than later Thx
Loving the series so far. When will part 6 be available to watch. 😀
Sorry Andy and everyone, been taking on too much and with school holidays - its hard to find the time. :) <3 But No 6 is here for you..!! <3
Thank you for showing this trick. Now all I have to do is buy one and some blades.
Cool Ray..! Glad it helped - let me know if there are any other things you need some tips on.. :)

Curious to see if it holds up to sanding, Which dyes did you use for this?
I have been very busy doing tests, and working on doing samples as we speak... I will be using a combination of selected and self made coloured veneers. Ty :)
I am curious to know why you wrote "Basic's" and not "Basics". Has the English language suddenly mutated in the last few weeks?
Because of a mutation in the language used by AI
think you meant it was 43 years old right? Great work, swans are beautiful

Love your work too joel <3
Your channel is so good, thank you for your content on marquetry, its hard to find good information about that. Hugs from Brazil. Mikael and Gabriela.
Thank you very much indeed, I hope to continue serving the community and help people who would like to know how to do it correctly, precisely and with the patience of a master. Please touch down with me on Facebook, LinkedIn or instagram. <3
If the veneer shrinks from the heat, what do you do with the shrinking parts? Do you do hot sanding first and then cut them? PS: you can only focus on the area where the pan is so that we can see the details better
I put the piece of veneer I want under the window, pencil through with tech pencil and then add on 1mm +- then cut that line. Then I sand shade and if it shrinks, that extra allows for it. It's then simply to recut the veneer to now fit. If you want add a bit extra - but it's just see what works for you. Unless your doing extreme fine tune sand shade lines, most of the time you keep the shading on the area you need for the effect...
We will do more marquetry workshops, I liked the live session we did - maybe next time I will do it for real. Anyone can join me - just get in touch..! So simple <3
Nice work, congratulations. I do it as a hobby, but I would like to see how to glue a marquetry work on curved surfaces without a vacuum press.
I don't like to use scotch tape because it is difficult to remove, I prefer masking tape, although it also leaves traces of adhesive if you put it in the press. I haven't tested the so-called "blue tape" because I can't find it to buy in my country.
Touch down with me via fb or Messenger and I can set up a day, afternoon, spare time and do a live video call with you, in the least email you a larger reply. :) I have a few tips you will find very useful that are in this subject. Peace out. MM
