Embracing Sidemount: My Dive Evolution into 2025
As I move into 2025, I’m making a bold shift in my diving journey. From now on, I’ll be exclusively sidemount diving, exploring new depths and refining my skills. Sidemount offers unmatched flexibility, comfort, and access to gear, and I’m excited to embrace its potential. The only time you’ll see me in a single tank backmount setup will be when I’m teaching recreational divers. Here’s to a new chapter in my diving career, focusing on efficiency, safety, and pure adventure!

From Bonaire to La Jolla Shores: A Night Dive Full of Surprises
Просмотров 54День назад
After an unforgettable dive trip to the tropical paradise of Bonaire, I returned to La Jolla Shores for a thrilling night dive. Though the water was colder than expected and visibility wasn’t ideal, the dive was anything but disappointing. The darkness of the ocean was alive with movement, and we were lucky enough to spot several octopuses in their natural habitat-mesmerizing, camouflaged, and ...

Exploring the Depths: A Thrilling Sidemount Dive at La Jolla Shores
Are you Norcal or Socal? Denver Colorado is closer to Tahoe than Norcal is to Socal. California is huge when looking for instructors. TIA.
I'm in San Diego
Been doing side mount last three years …..I switched to steel 110s I burn through gas especially post multiple COVID .i l love the lightness of AL but if I don’t pack 25 lbs (drysuit) I can’t stay down . I am working towards getting the sidewinder (1) I like it more than the (2) Please keep posting videos looking forward to more of them !!!
I have been SM diving for about 5 years now. I would always just SM dive even if it was single tank SM diving. Then the last year for no reason why I just stuck to back mount diving. The last few weeks I went back to side mount and was reminded how much easier it is on my back. I dont have back problems but silly me for not going to the configuration I knew I enjoyed diving. From now on I am going to side mount dive as much as possible. I will even single tank side mount dive for when I am teach recreational classes. I am planning a dive to Chuuk for January 2026 so I am going to do much more diving in the sidewinder. You will love the sidewinder once you get it.
Yikes. Music and narration fighting each other.
hey how deep are you taking those sidmounted 3liters as bailout ? My math doesn't add up but then I'm a beginner at ccr. So please share your bailout setup here.
@@andrewxbg Good question I went to 150 for 25 minutes and I was also carrying a 40 of 60% O2. Multi-deco indicates 14 cuft of 21% and 36 cuft of 60%. I plugged in a very conservative sac rate so I felt I had plenty of gass for the dive to test the dedicated bottles. Normally I would use my steel 50s and my 40 of 60% when I am doing anything to 150 ft.
@ aah ok that is interesting. Ccrs are friggin amazing. finally living in the future.
@@andrewxbg Definitely has been a game changer for me. Welcome to the world of CCR. Stay safe!
@@cadiveguy you be safe too. thank you for sharing the details.
A little history of the ships, would be nice, how'd they sink/ a WW2 ship?Just for viewer, plus where are you in ship, what are we looking at bow ,midships, aft?
Thanks Mike, in 2024 I'm going to do things a little different as I pull these videos together. I'm heading to bonaire next week so keep and eye out for how I approach recording during that trip. Thank you for the tip and I agree with your suggestion.
which month of the year was this?
It was September
@@cadiveguy thanks 👍
Where is all the sea life 😕
@@NINGABIKER Thats the bummer about diving in Europe. There is not a lot of marine life anywhere. Actually the only place that I actually did see some marine life was in Southern Italy. A bit sad if you ask me.
Learned alot for next time!
Great trip, great video, awesome memories!
Excellent video
This is awesome! Yes come to California to check it out for yourself. Its beautiful. Thanks for watching!
I’ve been diving the Great Lakes and the Caribbean but watching your channel and some Channel Islands and Catalina island videos I need to get out to Cali in 2025
Love it!
Visibility looked really great
@@yep3520 it was nice
such a fun video.
Diving the yukon is amazing.
Always a good time on the Yukon.
Awesome video, thanks for posting! What was the water temperature?
56 degrees F.
🤲 🦞 🐠
LOL!! All the animals are like ._.
Great job on this video super fun
@@davidb5195 thanks David!!
That was cool to see the octopus.
Thanks!
fwiw: octopus resurgence isn't confined to those depths; dove main wall on wed night (21aug) mostly in the 60-70fsw range and came upon literally hundreds of octopodes, they were everywhere....
@@jonathancohen7791 yeah many more octo’s than what I have been use to seeing. These at depth are much larger than those I see shallower. The body of these are bigger than two fists. That might be coincidence.
Thank you for recording and posting this valuable educational video
Our pleasure!
Congrats to all your students.
Loved diving there
Interesting. The anemone are colored based on their symbiotic algae. I wonder if the prolonged red tide has bleached them.
Anytime bud
Thanks again for the infinite patience waiting for me! 1 hour and 40 minutes to get there with the road closure at Torrey Pines Road, another 20 to find parking! Totally worth it!
Pleas re-upload this without the background music.
one does not sprung their ankle lol
@@theAquillo 😉
Yeah dummy. It’s spraingded 😁
What model of black tip scooter do you use
blacktip tec
When are we diving again?
Do you dive after work? I have been wanting to do a deeper ccr dive to find the cabazon cruiser again 170ish. Im teaching an OW class this weekend and could dive after the class 9:30-10ish
@@cadiveguy yes I can dive after work, before work, during work lol
I have dove once since April so I need to get back to it
nice and easy
Great video! Hope to see You guys again soon!
Great video
would suggest to can the disco music as you narrate...
Times have changed, liability concerns have lead those changes
Times have changed ... back in 1974 I was based there and found you could just walk into a 'Dive Shop' and rent a tank, reg, mask and flippers for around $15 a day with refills/ tank swap for $5. No experience or training necessary!!
Thank you for this, very helpful!
Beware the beak of the cormorant. 😂 one bit Sarah a few days ago
They seem to be more and more aggressive
Are you guys certified scuba divers and do you have your own scuba gear like wetsuits and dive gloves and dive hoods and dive boots and dive fins and dive masks and scuba tanks and bcd and regulators to breath from and breath underwater with scuba regulators
Stunning water clarity. Looks like it wasn’t terribly cold too.
@@annaadelman4876 visibility was over 100 ft or 35 meters. Temps were in the low 60s
Intersting video. HMS Maori was named after the Maori people of New Zealand is pronounced more Mao-ri than Ma-ori
Thanks! I am the worst at remembering and pronouncing names 😂
Such a beautiful summary. Both Malta and Gozo are stunning islands (didn´t make it to visit Comino though). I have been there twice (2013 & 2014). It´s worth a visit.
Great video
Amazing Guy!
Cool video
Love this. I’ve been wanting to set mine up to use in back mount, and trying to figure out how best to mount the scrubbers to the BCD and route everything. Do you have pics of how they mounted up, and any pics of how the scrubbers rested when in water?
Awesome! We also dive Yukon sometimes (double one) with kids spirit on Marissa boat. But been busy lately haven’t gone to SD for a while! Hope to see you there sometime
Looking forward to getting back at it once my ankle is better
Heal quick my friend!
