Добавлен 29 ноя 2014
Hello this is Scott. Here you can learn everything Sign Language related. I’ve been Signing for almost twenty years. I currently work as an ASL interpreter in a school district. I’m also an independent contractor where I work for several different agencies as an ASL interpreter. I truly hope you enjoy my channel and learn some new signs! :)

Thanks!!
No problem!
woah i’m learning asl at school currently. it’s nice to see this in my feed, maybe it will help me see asl used in an actual conversation
That’s awesome! It’s great you’re learning ASL!
The two I remember from my long ago sign language days (only a couple classes) are WoW and over the weak/week end. Thanks for your teachings. Helps me practice, even though I'll probably not ever have use for it anymore. I'm old and under medical care now. Blessings.
It’s amazing you can still remember them! 😊

What is guy in sign language?
You would sign man. :)
Thank you!
You’re welcome! 😎
i dont know any ASL other than like 2 letters nor do i intend to (i live in england) but i think the first one had an A, the second one had a C, and the last one also had an A
That’s cool. If you ever decide on wanting to learn I have a video I made on the letters. :)
No surprise that in 2024/2025 ASL has a new idiom for "jaw drop!" 😅😅😅
That Sign has been used for a while! 😂
I got it!!
Awesome! 👏
Hi. Thanks for the video. I finally got the 2nd word. I had to watch it 10 times to get it. I'm working on my receptive skills.
That’s amazing! The only way to improve your receptive skills is to go back and watch it again until you understand! Great job! 👏
I believe they were: 1. Rat 2. Mice 3. Snake
Me too.
Yes you are correct! 🎉
@@printer69tomYou got them correct! 👍
Where and when? Say it again.
The block of Orange at 6:00. That is in Orange County California.
Automatic follow. It's a beautiful thing to help the world understand people with difficulties to communicate. You're amazing
Appreciate the support! 🙏
Jack,Nick, Anna
Great job!!! 👏
LOVE your content. Is it possible to have your camera at eye-level? I feel like I'm missing out by looking up at you.
I will try to get it closer to eye level. Thank you! 😊
I don't know why I didn't think deaf people could be assholes.
Anybody could be an asshole whether they’re hearing or Deaf. That’s not the case here in Deaf culture they have a lot of dark humor. 😊
That’s pretty interesting and informative, thanks!
No problem! 😌
Wow, you showed me that I need more practice with receptive. I had to fingerspell with you to get one of them.
You got it! Keep practicing! 😊
You got it! Keep practicing! 😊
So, it's the number, then the multiplier in "Latin." ??
Some of the ASL numbers represent Roman numerals which corresponds to Latin.
OMG, I am living the 70s. Far out!
It’s pretty dope! 😎
Went to ASL interpreting school in the early 80s. Found that the money sucked, and went into computer networking. Still remember the sign name the gals gave me, a bit embarrassing. Keep it up. I understand about 30% of your finger spelling. Been tooooo long.
That’s awesome! You can make good money interpreting you just need to hustle more and not stay stagnant. It will come back to you! :)
I love it!!
Awesome! 😊
Please back up from the screen a bit more. Your hands are going out of frame & it’s hard to see the full signing.
Okay! I will try to do that next time! 👍
Totes going to use this one soon. TA
That’s awesome. 😊
❤❤❤
Thank you! 🙏
The conversational words around the main point of the video are so educational. Thanks again for making these! Keep it up!
Glad you like them!
bob dog ca? i have no idea wht the last letter was. maybe t but doesn't look like t maybe n but doesn't look like n idk
It was a t. You got it correct. The last word was cat. Always go with your first instinct. 😊
@@LearnASL-bx9xt yay! i have poorer eyesight and i easliy confuse n,m s,t p,n thanks for the video
@@LearnASL-bx9xt if you are ever searching for content ideas, i have a suggestion. i know a ton of people (including myself) who struggle with grammar. i think videos with you signing asl while speaking but not the english translation...like speak the actual asl signs you are signing would be helpful for us trying to learn the grammar. i know tons of vocabulary but struggle to not use english grammar when signing (signed english) edited to also say THANK you for the fingerspelling receptive practice that is sooooo hard. i find that i'm constantly being told to slow down my fingerspelling but at the same time in the same convo i am aslo asking for the other person to SLOW down lol great video
@@a41randomglitch38 You did great! Focus on the patterns not the individual letters. :)
@@a41randomglitch38 What I’m doing is SimCom talking and Signing at the same time. Two languages can’t coexist at the same time. ASL uses specific mouth morphemes over two hundred different kinds. I can make longer videos and talk like normal explain the grammar and do basic sentences with my voice off. That’s what I was thinking for my long videos. I could also show you guys how to put music into ASL but that is a little complicated for beginners.
I don't know ASL, but thank you for doing this. It seems like a very helpful learning tool. : )
You're very welcome! I hope it helps you with your learning journey! 😊
thank you, always learning,
Awesome! You’re very Welcome! 👍
Subtitles would be great for those of us facing new or unpracticed words.
The reason I did not do Subtitles is because this video is for receptive practice. I have went over some of the numbers in my previous videos. If there are any Signs you want to know let me know. I can do a review on the numbers if you like? 😊
It would really help if you would say them as you sign them. You are using signs I haven't seen before, and I have no idea what they are.
Okay no problem. The reason I had my voice off in this video is for receptive practice. I can review the numbers if you like? :)
Thank you for posting this, and for being slow and precise. 😊
You are so welcome! 😊
Hi, I actually had a question for you, I have a friend who wants to be an asl interpreter, how did you get started? What processes and qualifications did you need?
Typically to become an ASL Interpreter you would need to go through an Interpreter training program either at a community college or a university. After that get your bachelors degree preferably in ASL but it could be in anything. After you pass you would be considered certified to work as an ASL Interpreter. If you are not certified you can still work as an Interpreter but you have to be really good. If you are working without certification most agencies will want to test you every year in order to stay with their agency. It was a combination of me being immersed in the community and formal training in ASL that helped me become an interpreter. I was living and working with all Deaf people as I was going to school. :)
@ thank you!!
@@Green_Lici18You’re Welcome! 😊
Happy Saturday!
You too! Happy Saturday! 😊
Sheesh!! I am terrible at reading hands! I know my alphabet, but I just can't get all the letters and I've watched a million times now, lol!! I hope you post the answer!
I one hundred percent understand. Fingerspelling is the most difficult thing for Interpreters. Anyways when you are reading fingerspelling try to catch the patterns instead of focusing on each individual letter. The three words that I fingerspelled were Ashley, Joey, and John. :)
thank you
You’re very Welcome! All praise to Yeshua! 😊
That is interesting! I wonder where "258" as slang "very interesting" comes from.
Hi Sarah! 258 in considered “very interesting” in certain online communities, particularly within the Deaf community because it represents the hand shapes for the numbers 2,5 and 8 when signing in American Sign Language, which when combined visually, can be interpreted as signifying “very interesting” due to the way the hand shapes look together. Thank you for watching! 🙏
@@LearnASL-bx9xt Ahh! Thanks for explain this to me. :)
@ You’re very welcome! I hope you have a great rest of your day! :)
❤❤❤
Thank you! 🙏
Does RUclips have it's own Sign?
Yes in this video I’m using Sim Com. When I say hello RUclips at the beginning of the video. That’s the Sign for RUclips. :)
My question is, do I copy or mirror you? ❤
You can if you want. I’m talking and Signing at the same time. That’s called Sim Com. I’m signing in English word order. You can learn some basic vocabulary. I do need to make some videos with my voice off in order to teach proper ASL. As a beginner it’s good to build up your basic vocabulary. I would recommend going to some local Deaf Events in your area to learn more Sign.
Thank you. Great suggestion. It's hard to upkeep learning another language when you're not able to practice often. Luckily I have a deaf coworker who said they'd love to practice with me 😊
@@Guiltttrippp Honestly that’s the best way to learn. I’m so happy for you! 😊
Obama = EVIL
Thanks Obama
You’re welcome. :)
brian tylor emily I think?
Yes you got Brian and Emily correct. The second word I finger spelled was Tyler. Let me know if this was to fast or slow I can change the speed.
Translation: Ol' Folded-Hair
Yep! 👍
lol
Politically not a fan, what I am a fan of you and what you do. ✌🏼
Thank you! I appreciate the kind words. Hope you have a great day!
@ thanks, rite back at you. Take it easy!✌🏼
Hi Scott! I hope you feel better soon! I am a behavioral therapist who works in a public school. The class I'm assigned to this year is a TK-kindergarten special needs class. Only one of my students is verbal. The rest of the kiddos are autistic and non verbal. A few of these kids know a few words like "more", "help","play" and "all done". Today s video is really helpful because the kids are always sick with colds! So learning "sick" and "cold" were very helpful! Thanks so much!❤
That’s awesome! I used to work in a mod to severe setting for autism in an elementary school. Yes learning basic ASL vocabulary can really help autistic children. :)
I learned ASL as a teen but had. No one to speak to and quickly lost the skill. Your video is a great refresher. Thank you for showing us your talent.
@ I appreciate the kind words! It’s never too late to get back into it. I would recommend getting involved with your local Deaf Community. You should be able to find some Deaf Events near your house to practice. Good luck to you! :)
That’s awesome! Yes rice is one of the words that I finger spelled! Here is a link to a website that can give you some fingerspelling practice. asl.ms
I haven’t familiarized myself with the ASL alphabet in a LONG time, but I still decided to give this a shot! The only word I think I got was “rice”, but I’m probably wrong. Nice work!
I thought the sign for coke was a rolled up dollar bill hanging from a nostril
I’m talking about coco cola as in the soda. :)
