Man I gotta love the Alien Stage fandom, they're some of the brain rottiest people I know-- Anyway, there's no right or wrong way of interpreting this cover. Since I recorded it quite a while back, even I can't remember the 'original intention' and some of the theories I'm getting here are pretty juicy so I'm like *add to cart*. You are right about the elegant, almost 'condescending' version of Ruler of my Heart. Especially in the first few verses, I sang with Luka in mind because I could see him completely dominating the song. Villain was also from his perspective at the start-- he was acting proper on stage but whenever he gets closer to Mizi he slips in taunts that the audience doesn't see. When I chose Villain as the counter point, not as much was known about Luka's character yet. I assumed he was just toying with his food (ehe) and trying to get a rise out of her. Perhaps he was trying to crush her spirit, make her second guess her feelings with Sua as well-- what if maybe she actually DID want to win in Round 1? What if she was scared of dying and was deep down grateful she survived even at Sua's expense? However at some point, Luka backs Mizi too much into a corner and she snaps, trying to usurp control of both songs. Ruler of My Heart is the actual 'stage' they need to win so she focuses on that, but the undertone of Villain is where he plays his mind game so she goes FUCK IT. MALICIOUS compliance. She parrots the words back and the idea he was planting backfires when she takes Villain and rides with it to just go beat the shit out of him AHAHA. If I remember correctly back then when I was recording though, the last few lines of Ruler Of My Heart in the outro was made to sound huskier, weaker, more of a croak-- that was supposedly from Luka's perspective when he sees Hyuna. He played his game on stage, he sort of won it but what does it matter now? He's going back to the box after this and he is just as chained down and powerless as he was trying to make Mizi feel prior. *bows* at least this is what I can remember of my thought process from several months ago HAHAHA Thank you for stopping by <3 <3 <3
