I grew up near Scarborough, N Yorks was beautiful. Notice there was no obesity back then. All food was mostly organic, and everyone cooked from scratch.
These videos of past times are so sad when you see the good things we had that have been destroyed by stupid arrogant politicians both local and national.
Thanks. Brought tears mate, this is a reminder of happy childhood memories. To have those days back : Dad alive, mum beautiful, the three of us still kids. And all on holiday in what was a magical place to us.
my mums last holliday in 1969,iwas only only 7 ,she died of cancer just after.i loved scarborough as a kid but i find it so difficult to watch these fantastic videos withought a tear in my eye, thanks so much for posting.
im sorry to here about your mum it must of been hard for you,i was only 6 so didnt realise what was happening at the time,i lost my dad in my 20s and that hurt,i think the older you get the more someones death affects you.keep smiling and take care. @@lauraann4014
I lost my dear wife to cancer shortly after our last holiday in Scarborough 3 years ago . We loved that place and went every year . Now I can never go back there . Tears fell asleep I watched that .
Just come up in my feed. Great video - thank you so much for uploading! I went to Scarborough in the 60s every summer as a child. Lived abroad for many years. Since being back in the UK we go to Scarborough every 2 or 3 months. Yes it has lost so much but I still go for nostalgia and remember the past. Yes, as another post says, the cheap package holidays killed the great British seaside.
This is the England we envied back then. Holidays in the UK was a dream. Remember this was 15 to 20 years after the end of WW2. England and much of Europe was rebuilt from the rubble thanks to the Marshall plan and Governments who were in general looked after the interest of their people. That is when America and England were great. It can happen again.
My childhood seaside resort in "60 s ,went back 30 yrs later felt so sad and old ,The outdoor pool had gone and places bourded up.This brought tears to my eyes ( it was probably the music) Memories indeed.❤
A photo doesn't tell all the story though... those first photos don't tell us about the dirt and smell, of women with a dozen children, men lost at sea or weather too bad to go out and earn a living. I'm sure I will be criticised for this post; these photos give us a small insight into social history but shouldn't be looked at through rose tinted glasses.
Hola! Tendrías fotos de los restaurantes que había por la zona del puerto, mis padres estuvieron trabajando en uno que se llamaba Savoy, y me es imposible localizar alguna foto. Mil gracias!
Great video. Fascinating photos. Its still a great place but consecutive councils and so called town planners seem to have tried their best to destroy it...
Spent a week at Colleys Cozy Camp in 1969 on holiday. And a few days in a B&B a year earlier. I was 8 years old and fell in love with Scarborough. Please Holme Park Naval battles, swimming in the lido, sailing on the Hispaniola on the Mere... magical! Visited there for a day trip last week. It is so much smaller, and a bit tacky... I felt robbed of some wonderful memories😪 but I think the difference is that at eight years old and during the 1960's the world was a wonderful place, rather than the world a sixty one year old sees in 2022!
Scarborough used to be my second home, not now, sadly, disabled, but these views are utterly charming... even Scarborough council couldn't make them TOTALLY unrecognisable.
What a beautiful English treasure with so much history and joy to family’s on holidays . Now the British government have destroyed this place by allowing it to be ran down along with housing 3rd world Economic migrants such as the afghans you are causing carnage Scarborough is grand hotel it costs £39 to the paying tax man public citizen tonight yet the government give the hotel £250 per day to house in a legal immigrant at the taxpayers expense
Thanks and now they walk around with their eyes on mobile phones and see nothing! Will be back to Scarborough next week. We don’t want this place destroyed!
Marvellous was this filmed in the 1950s?

Such a shame everything gone from the town now. Nothing here now. Good days they were god bless scarborough
As a Scarborian, I find this fascinating 👏
Is the tune based on "Without the Fanfare" by Mick Hanly (recorded by Mary Black in 1985)?

The England I once knew gone forever except for the memories I fear for our childrens future on what's happening today and we all know why.

I loved Scarborough when I was a little girl and dad took us every Saturday on the train, it was so lovely , but not anymore 😢💕
History at its best will live forever in are memories can be taken with us when we die and move to the next life

Where is or was, the Mere in Scarborough😂???
@@geoffreylaverne7859 The Mere is south of the town near the junction of Queen Margaret's Road and Seamer Road.
Great days! 🤘😎🎸
Why did they do away with it ?
I would love to wander down those streets back then

Great memories .... Appreciate you sharing..!
Brings a tear to the eye... seriously 😢 💧
Great shots. So many changes and not many for the good but although times change the natural beauty of Scarborough doesn’t.

Excellent. A step back in time from my favourite place. I think it was better then when life was a little simpler.😊
That was so beautiful to watch, I so wish I could go back in time and take a look around all those places. Thanks for posting!
