Mate, for a compact layout, that is absolutely fabulous, i really really like it, words can't describe it, that is realistic, your backscene is a great eye catcher, it made me want to get right in close and have a good look at the layout, you've inspired me, and i haven't ever built a layout, well i'm about to now after seeing this, well done, and thankyou for your series, you have excelled.
@@zanegracie39 thank you, really appreciate that 😀
That's a super little layout, with some really nice details on it ... Cheers James 🙂👍
@@DYLINGTONMODELRAILWAY thanks James 😃
A really fantastic layout, ready for exhibitions! A lot of people who think they don't have place for a model railway, can get inspired by this very well made example. I hope we will see some trains running on it from time to time?
@@railway187 thank you 😀 just got a little hornby terrier to run on it so will post some stuff of that running soon
@ I think the 0-4-0 Sentinel would do great on this layout too. I wonder if a Caledonian pug of another of these bigger 0-4-0 would run... Another option is Lima H0 rolling stock.
@ yeh I have my eye on a couple of sentinels and got a Oxford 0-6-0 Janus coming which will work as well
Nice job! Goes to show what can be done in a small space. Thanks!
@@GregFox-BraintreeHillRailway thank you and any space will do
That’s a delightful little layout, and very well modelled. Enjoy! 👍
@@stuartallen8684 thank you 😄
i am planning my own layout about the same size. hope it turns out this good!!
@@OtterB135 enjoy the build, I’m sure it will turn out well.
have you had to remove any of your couplings to get the carriages around the corners
@ I have found modern wagons with nem couplers are fine. Also the traditional hornby d couplers are fine. Mainline wagons/older bachmann struggle
nice
I've been watching since your first video, i think you've done a really splendid job, perfect for those with not much space to spare like myself, that layout would certainly keep myself occupied, top job.
@@zanegracie39 thank you 😃
Been watching this layout from the start and i think its turn out awesome, only thing for me (and its just personal) is to break up the loop, u can pretty much see it every angle cos its flat, using a hill or tunnel or something to break the illusion of a loop... but like I say that personal. Great job fella, good to see the likes of budget Model Railway and yourself making these sorts of layouts. I need to start my own mini 00 gauge layout soon..been messing with n gauge for long lol, I have a nice old ikea lack mums got rid of to use... 90×55 coffee table top to use for it...
Loved seeing it come together.
O wow 🤩 what a nice little station. The layout is really top class, ready for exhibitions!
@@railway187 thank you, never done an exhibition before. Probably be just used at home and the little one
What radius are the curves? I’d like to built a 4x4 layout myself but I need to use 2nd radius.
@@itsconnorstime it’s less than radius 1, I used flexi track and bent them onto the board to fit. I can only run 0-4-0 locos as it’s tight. You would easily fit 2nd radius on a 4ft layout and run most trains
That really is a great looking compact layout... Cheers James 🙂👍
@@DYLINGTONMODELRAILWAY thank you 😃
Super amazing cute little layout 👍 I been watching your videos of your work on this incredible layout and I definitely like it.
@@joelightrailway2362 thank you, it’s been a fun one to build and hasn’t taken to much time due to the size.
Love these compact layouts! 👍
@@stuartallen8684 they are great for tight spaces and cleaning the track doesn’t take long.
I am planning to make a layout of 2 ft by 4 ft. I wonder, what is the biggest locomotive that can negotiate your 2ft curves? Can for instance a Jinty or a smaller Bo-bo diesel handle it?
@@railway187 hi,ive managed to get the rapido 15xx around it but my class 08 shunter and pannier tank de railed. Mainly suited for 0-4-0’s really. I reckon a hornby terrier might work okay
@ Thanks! I would at least like my Class 2721, Jinty and Lima H0 4F to run without derailing, so I guess the layout will have to be at least 2,5 ft x 4 ft.
@ if you can afford the extra width it would definitely be worth it
@ On 2,5 ft I can work with regular R1. I have a mini layout of 2,75 x 3 ft now, it has R1 and I am even running a Mogul and a class 33 on it. However, it has a curved station track and only one siding and that's not ideal, so 2,5 by 4 ft seems a more ideal size, still portable but with a few sidings and a straight station track.
@ sounds like a good plan
I like the way you are showing how much better the layout looks with good modelling skills. Gives me hope for the future. Thank you.
@@peterfindlay2756 thank you, it’s all trial and error.
Have you done any weathering on vehicles? Think those in the coal yard needs some weathering
@@lukelewis1535 not attempted it myself yet. It’s something I would like to learn to do
@ will make for a great vid!
@ it would, maybe as future video could be made

Always fascinated by small OO railways. I live in a small house and always looking for new ideas. Thanks for sharing!
@@GregFox-BraintreeHillRailway thanks for watching. Only 3ft by 2ft so only can use 0-4-0 locos but I love it
@@dcb_trains I have 2 of the Hornby 0-4-0s in GWR livery that are the really slow runners, perfect for a layout of this size....Thinking hard! Thanks again.

Lovely ex GWR prairie tank
WONDERFUL 🤩 By the way, what brand are these beautiful smaller sizes tankers and brake van behind you W4 Peckett? They fit so well 👌👍
Thank you and they are bachmann tankers and I believe Oxford brake van
Very much a bargain 👍
I would say that's a bargain you have.
@@andrewrice6596 I would agree, you can’t go wrong with the bundle deals
looking great and nice job with the engine shed old brick buildings have cracks and movement anyway so it will just look aged and the tree hides the joint well, look forward to the next one. Tom
@@northwesttrainsmodels thank you Tom 😀

Did you use flexible track for the curves? It’s looking great!
@@battlescalewargamebuilding4316 it is indeed, peco flexi track used for the curves and hornby set track points and straights cut down.
Great update. It's a wonderful layout, I am getting inspired. Maybe I should make a new layout ... again 😮😊
@@railway187 thank you and why not ? Go for it
@@dcb_trains I have done 4 layouts in less than 4 years... and in combination with a full time job that is quite a lot... 😁

@@Jakobicus they definitely are
Wow 🤩 it looks great 👍 I like the position of the shed on the smaller siding, it looks good!
@@railway187 thank you, I had to Modify it to make it fit but I think it looks better this way 😀
Very cute and nostalgic. ^_^ I remember my Day Out With Thomas event when I was a child was at the Watercress Line (then the Mid Hants Railway) and I was so impressed with how it looked. Many of these events do a great job of taking locomotives and making them have that Thomas & Friends charm. But I thought Thomas was supposed to have a SHORT stumpy dome. :P
I'm working in N scale. I get the ballast looking all neat and nice, but after I glue it gets all lumpy, clumpy, and looks like rubbish. Maybe I should have bought the special scenic glue but I'm more than half done ballasting anyway. I'm hoping that putting foliage on makes it look better and hides some of this. Yours is looking good!
@@canuckprogressive.3435 thank you, I just use normal cheap pva glue, maybe you are using to much glue potentially. I use little bit of washing up liquid, then half water and half glue mixture.
@@dcb_trains Same here, it just hasn't worked as well as I would have liked it to for me but it will have to do.

Excellent video of the 50th anniversary event at the railway 👍 I believe this is the day of operation of the Peckett steam locomotive? I do like the BR van wagon is painted in yellow instead in traditional brown with in contrast of the Ruston 88 in stunning green livery.
@@joelightrailway2362 yes Peckett 2130 running and 3 other diesels.
@@dcb_trains Oh I meant to say, this is the last day of the Peckett in steam.
After years of wanting to build a large layout with numerous locos and rolling stock tucked away similar to yours, I think I've finally got it - with both a smaller circular layout and a second shelf/shuttle one like you've got; just brilliant. Thanks for the revelation, DCB !! Cheers, from Greg, down-under, NZ.
@@calibrais thanks for watching and hope your layout builds go well
That's looking good 🙂👍

@@dcb_trains looking forward to following your progress, I'm also enjoying seeing my grandson's 009 layout develop 🙂👍
@@DYLINGTONMODELRAILWAY I wanted to do 009 due to space needed but can’t afford buying all the track and locos right now so ended up doing this instead
@dcb_trains we were lucky enough to get some second-hand track at a bargain price, which is what has enabled the build. He's only got one loco and a couple of wagons at the moment, which were birthday and Christmas presents. Have you seen his progress on his Dylington Model Railway channel? He's on episode 6 🙂👍
