I got off drugs and I never experienced love never experienced community. I agree big pharma is a for profit industry that peddles drugs to kids and it doesn’t improve their health or lives.

The stigma exists for a good reason. Obese people don't usually steal the money you were saving for a loved ones funeral expenses and then help you look for it for an hour. As an addict I can say with certainty these are generally the worst ppl you'll ever meet.

Nobody can help a drug addict who is not ready to stop. Ive seen it a 100 times . The addict ( drugs , food , sex) needs to realize themselves.

Well, time for me to piss a lot of people off by telling them what they need to hear instead of what they want to hear. I stayed addicted to prescription drugs, methadone, heroine, alcohol, you name it for damn near 20 years because I was told I have a disease. Bullshit. By telling someone they have a "disease" you are telling them that it's not their fault that they are using or relapsing. You're telling them that some phony "disease" is why they are doing drugs. Bob is completely talking in contradictory circles here. He talks about personal responsibility (which is right on point with the real issue) and then talks about some imaginary disease, taking the personal responsility that he just spoke of right out of the equation. You are using drugs and alcohol and relapsing because you are CHOOSING to do it. Not some fake "disease". One of the things Bob was right about is that drug rehabilitation is a multi billion dollar business. And they make their money by touting this so called disease. It keeps people in the loop because it doesn't work and insures a steady cash flow of addicts. If the disease issue is the problem, then why do over 90% of people coming out of rehab relapse? It's because they are led to believe they are powerless over some "disease", that it's not their fault. Truth is people, it IS your fault because YOU made the DECISION to use. And don't get me going on the whole Hillary Clinton thing. I am one of the people that scoffed at her idiotic "it takes a village to raise a child" comment. Again, Bob contradicts himself but saying it's the parents responsibility but yet says the village is also responsible for raising a child. Stupid! The "village" is full of people, like politicians and drug dealers (often one in the same) that are out to corrupt your child for the betterment of their own power trip and bank account. They don't care if you or your child dies because their "it takes a village" mentality assures they have a steady supply of robots to destroy. It takes PARENTS, GOOD parents to raise a child. Many parents today don't have the skills or ability to raise a child because they themselves are products of the "village system". Take personal responsibility for your own choices you make. Bob is correct about parents getting educated. They need to forget everything the government (village) has told them and learn about personal responsibility, boundaries, and making the right choices. Sorry if my comments piss you off, but it is the truth and sometimes, all of the time, the truth stings a bit.

Just a side-note. I think Bob used a poor example, albeit with good intentions. Morbid obesity is not a disease of choice, or of "interactive participation" as he claims (at least in 90% of cases or more). And it's hugely defeating (psychologically) for people who have that disease since they are surrounded by people who think, "look at that person... he/she has no self-control". The average morbidly obese person could eat like a "health nut" and would still remain obese (of course, there are rare exceptions). In ancestral times that were marked by scarcity it would be an advantage to have that "disease" (that's why it's in the gene pool). One other thing that I find interesting: Overweight people who seek out psychotherapy end up gaining more weight than people who don't. This calls into question some of our assumptions about counselling and "talk therapy" (obviously one can't generalize from that one example, but it's interesting nonetheless). And just so we're clear on definitions: morbid obesity means that you weigh 100 pounds or more than you should ("should" being based on the body mass index system). I'm fairly certain that's the category of person to which Bob was referring (rather than people who are moderately overweight). I also think that addiction therapy is in its infancy, and it shows. And the "war on drugs" phenomenon has not helped this situation in the least. Even the word drug lacks nuance. There are so many kinds, and each individual biochemical machine (aka human being) reacts to them in different ways. And we have to ask if people would react to them in the same way if we had different ways of approaching the use of "drugs" in our society (removing the antisocial stigma and criminal element, improving general education, and making that education based on science rather than fear).

It's easy to misundertand what Bob's saying is that patient's who are on reality shows trying to get clean and sober are treated with judgement if they get clean and sober they are celebrated...if they have a slip..they recoeve "hatred" "animosity"" 'cruelty" from th public watching these types of reality shows as OPPOSED to we have a ton of reality shows called America's Biggest Loser where people celebrate the person if they hit the goals..I don't see the public showing hatred when these reality tv show participants slip or gain weight back....so Bob is saying the reality showworld shows how people are very unsupportive and very judgemental towrd sdrug addoction a 'diesease" ....Bob feels that love is healing force...we all need that...and of course there are overweight people with self esteem and thin people with no self esteem so he was talking about the way our society treats dtug addicts as if they are "bad people" not trying...just my .02.

You can eat 1000 cal a day and weigh 300 lbs... People are not overeating or eating bad quality food. Also what most people don't understand is that if you are poor, there's very little money for food... How would someone overeat if they don't have any money, yet they are fat? huh? To assume that every overweight person is overeating is Wrong... It is really difficult to exercise if you are weak, woozy and bedridden from chronic semi-starvation!

I seriously thought same (weigh 114 overweight freshman year 3 things.Burn more calories per day than intake(hungry is good,ur body will reach for ur fat to burn ,stomach WILL shrink) 2.Exercise(I started just by walkimg really far haha, once I hit my goal of cemetery, had no choice to walk back.. ,3.stop eating at 530,dnt worry,u won't die,if hungry, drink water

Scoop Jopsies I am disabled, weak, low energy and can't walk very far as I will lose my balance and fall. I do have thyroid problems too. Every time I have starved in the past I have gained weight...true. In fact that IT is the ONLY time I have gained weight. So I am concerned that reducing to one meal a day will cause me to gain more weight, because that is what has happened in the past. I know this doesn't make sense but it HAS happened to me, TWICE in the past! At 2 meals a day now, I am woozy sometimes and it would be dangerous for me to pass out alone at home.

addiction is a desease, not too be a shamed of, but too be prayed for and supported in recovering from the addiction.
