Completely agree with both this review and your Nightmare Rarity review! You literally could completely skip the 2nd and 3rd issue and miss nothing. Nightmare Rarity arc used every issue to tell a well flowing story. With the Chrysalis arc, read 1st and 4th for the story, and 2nd and 3rd for the humor. btw, Chrysalis said she doesn't care if the mane 6 are friends. She split them up and made them turn on each other purely for laughs. I can believe she would do that.

Despite its many flaws, I prefer the following arc. What I enjoyed about the early issues of MLP is that it explored material we'll probably never see on the show. (Such as Chrysalis coming back and more background on Nightmare Moon.) I started to lose interest after that as I feel by concentrating more on slice-of-life stories the comics have lost their niche, plus I feel they go really overboard with the pop culture references. A little goes a long way IMO. Return of Chrysalis was pretty good for all the reasons you listed, though I too was annoyed by the mane six being tricked so easily, and how unnecessary parts 2&3 were. (Filler is fine to a point if it's entertaining, but part 3 in particular pushed it for me.) Overall however I was entertained which is all I've ever expected from MLP.
