2024 Red light runners of Norman Oklahoma poor driving skills on display
The red light runners captured in this video, could have been from any-town USA. But the fine drivers showcased in this video, just happened to be driving in Norman Oklahoma.
The point in making this video, was to show people the benefit of good defensive driving skills. Don't trust your fellow motorist to stop at any red light. Take an extra few seconds to verify for yourself, that they are going to stop.
There were a few examples in this video where the red light runner ran a pretty stale red light. Those occurrences could have very easily caused a nasty collision. Fortunately, luck or good defensive driving skills prevented that outcome.

Vintage 1980s picture State-line California Nevada Cactus Kates Casino vacant land before & after

I accidentally stumbled across this 1980s picture, of the long gone Cactus Kates casino. It was located in Nevada just north of the California state-line along Interstate-15. I just had to do a comparison of the 1980s image to the more recent 2020 image. Wow what a contrast.

I was amazed when the car behind me, darted into the left lane to pass me as I was reacting to the yellow light. Being amazed by that action, I just had to see if my rear camera was able to capture that drivers face. It appeared the red light runner was having an OH SHIT moment as that person zoomed towards the intersection.

The hand held bug zapper the greatest invention since sliced bread

This hand held device works pretty well. I decided to show it's action in slow motion. It puts out a pretty good jolt of electricity. I didn't invent this zapper, and I'm not selling any zappers. I just thought that I would share the success that I have had using this type of technology. I got a laugh making this video. If anyone got a laugh or giggle from viewing this video great...

As I was editing this video this video, I couldn't help but notice the distracted driver in the background. The distracted driver made it possible, that the guy in front of me could pull off his daring u-turn. It seemed spontaneously choreographed, which added to the humor. Thus we had a "Comedy of Errors" occurrence.

Recently installed Revolutions sculpture in Norman Oklahoma in new traffic circle
Просмотров 233 месяца назад
The city of Norman recently opened a new traffic circle, which ties Flood Avenue into James Garner Avenue. Highlighting this new circle is a modern art sculpture, which was created by artist Paul Bagley. He named this sculpture 'Revolutions'. Many people see many things, when they drive by this new art piece.
Railroad Freight Train Hopper Car Graffiti Art

This train and graffiti was captured on August 24th as this freight train was heading south thru downtown Norman Oklahoma. Usually I only get a brief glimpse of the graffiti, as it streams on by. I wanted to get a better look at the graffiti art work. So I reviewed my dash cam video. Some of the art work is pretty creative.

Recently the City of Norman had installed, this modern art sculpture (Revolutions) in the center of its new traffic circle. The circle ties into James Garner Avenue which diverts traffic off of Flood Avenue. The city extended James Garner Avenue and built a bridge to create this by-pass. In theory it should help out congestion on game days.

The face of the driver is a face you cant see? Thanks for wasting my time
You can see the drivers face. It's not clear because I was lucky to capture what I did get. You can see the eyes and the mouth open wide. Just guessing the mouth opened wide when that person figured that they were going to be running a red light.
The video is so unclear how you can confidently say thats a face they are making? maybe they eatting? maybe its a yawn? Maybe They are yelling at their kids being brats in the back seat@calokie733

Absolutely beautiful camera work. Just need to drop the hipster music and use more traditional music that OK is known for.
Noted! Thanks for the feedback.
I remember going to Gallup from Window Rock to watch the Intertribal Ceremonies back in the 1950s and 1960s. I do miss living in Window Rock a very special place and a very special people.
I remember going to the same airshow the SR71 was BADDAZZ those were the days
Nice. Thanks. I was at the same event and recently also uploaded some pictures: ruclips.net/video/9xhxd3Iqtng/видео.html
Hello there. I am interested in getting prints for a few of the pictures you had in the video. Please respond and let me know if that is possible.
You can contact me at matlaborde01@gmail.com. Please let me know exactly what your looking for. Perhaps I might be able to help you out. Thanks
Cool video :o) Unfortunately for our entertainment purposes, the cat knows better than to stick around to get a face full of crotch stench
Years ago we had a dog that found out the hard way. Even after a good washing, the stink lingered for at least 2 weeks. I was glad to see the cat knew better.
I was there.
Blackbird has been always been my favorite. My father was stationed and retired out of Norton a few years before BRAC. I'd always go with my dad till I got older and then I would go with a friend to it. As my father was stationed there we could in the 3rd St gate and park over at the commissary then walk over. :)
@CalOkie I would like to thank you also for posting this video as I, myself, was there that day, also. I took my daughter, Ms. Eileen Moreno, who was 5 years old at the time. We both really enjoyed spending our day there, and it's one that I'll always treasure in my heart. As we all know, the Thunderbird's always put on a great air show, and having the SR-71 there that day made it that much more enjoyable!! As a side note, "Blackbird" just happens to be my nickname, so the plane's name means a little something special to me, as well. 😉
Thanks for the nice comment. As much as I liked seeing the Thunderbirds flying, the SR-71 was the star at that show. I had fun putting this video together. I recently had decided to start digitizing photographs not seen from 30 years ago, when I came across these long-forgotten photos.
I was 10 years old when I attended this air show and I remember like it was yesterday. Watching this video brought back so many memories
Thanks for posting! I was there, probably in my OP shorts, tank top and Mullet. I worked down the street at Ludwig Eng. A bunch of us went to this show. I was 20 years old. I remember the fly-bye's and on the last one the pilot kicked it in the ass and the after burners kicked in. You could feel it in your chest as he ascended at about a 45 degree angle and was over Lake Arrowhead and Lake Gregory in no time. Amazing! I also remember the Thunderbird's flying in formation and disappearing out on the horizon. The crowd got back to talking and relaxing and they flew in from the north over the hangars and buzzed the crowd at high speed, no one saw it coming. So many people instantly crouched and dropped down low. That was a Fun Show! San Bernardino wasn't the best then, today it's beyond ghetto.
When I arrived at that show, I was pleasantly surprised to see the SR-71. I had no clue that it was going to be there. I lived in Highland for a few years. They flew a lot of C-141 Starlifters out of that base. I used to enjoy watching those make their left turn over Redlands for their final approach to land at Norton. From the video's that I have seen of San Bernardino, I'm glad that I'm over 1,000 miles away from that town. Pretty sad.
Were beneficial Insects able to get inside the netting?
Yes we still got the beneficial insects. When I we hung new netting last year, I left a gap in the ceiling which is around 3 feet wide. That gap pretty much runs the length of our structure in the middle. I figured it would allow easier access for the butterflies. After damage from an ice storm in 2020, we went without a ceiling during our 2021 growing season. We were pleasantly surprised that only a few birds bothered to go inside. So, from that experience I decided to leave a 3 foot gap in the center, running the length of the structure. So far this year we have only seen 1 bird which entered our structure.
Norman has a pretty well thought out siren system though, activates itself based on what part of town the warning polygon includes
Awesome video, I remember that day well. Awesome parade.
Thanks for watching!
😢
Very cool. If you have any more Guthrie "stuff" please share it with us! Thanks...
Thanks .... If I ever come across any more Guthrie images, I will post them.
great video
Thanks for your nice comment. Unfortunately, it seems like we have been getting more beat up around here in the past 3 or 4 years. I had recorded and recently posted on my channel the arrival of a monster hailstorm as it arrived. That storm was downright hateful. You can hear my glass windows breaking in the background.
I was at this event and the Atoka County Suppers held in the years before. In 1980 I was 14 years old and helping by pouring sodas. My father had been the bar chairman from the start of this fund raiser. My parents would bring me the day before to set up. (I didn't get to go to the actual event till I was 13.) To keep me occupied I got to bring a friend on set up day. The first year Mrs Taylor told my friend and I we could use the indoor pool as long as we didn't play with the loft rope swing. She let us into the pool barn herself! We swam in our clothes and the next year brought swim suits with us. No one believed us at school the next day.
NWS-Norman even made a sounding just 20 minutes before the tornado struck, it showed a CINH of over 220, but it was not enough as the helicity was over 1000! This shows that the atmosphere is ready for an active spring season. This tornado was 20 miles to the west and north of my location.
My video was captured just south of Westheimer airport. It was interesting how the sound quieted some, just prior to the tornado siren going off.

Very interesting solution to the neighborhood birds. My question is how have you have made the netting one piece and removable, and what size mesh did you use? Could you have not as easily removed the four pieces and stored them? Afterall, we all know that Oklahoma weather will take a twist from the norm.
The first time that we hung the netting, we did it in 4 pieces. That took a lot of extra work stitching it together at the corners, and up at top where t he netting overlapped. We were pretty successful keeping the birds out. During the first season only 2 or 3 birds found a way in. I had to cut the ceiling off during a major ice storm. So the following growing season 2021 we were with out a ceiling. We were pleasantly surprised that by only utilizing the netting on the sides, that was enough to discourage most birds. We did get a few in that we noticed, but it was no big problem. Last spring I decided to hang new netting. I use a roll of 100' x 14' netting. I installed the netting in 1 piece basically by wrapping it around the structure in one piece. I wanted to hang it in a easier fashion. We started at the doorway then rolled out the netting on the ground for the entire side that we were going to do first. We unfolded the netting then draped it over the cable. Pulling the netting over the side cable, until it was almost off the ground. The excess was used to create a partial ceiling on all 4 sides. That worked pretty well. There is an open gap in the center of the ceiling, of an approximate 3 feet wide. The rest is enclosed. Over all a few birds bothered to fly into our structure during our 2022 growing season. I will probably leave the netting hanging during this winter unless we get a major ice storm in the forecast. We used plastic clips to attach the netting to the cables. As for around the doorway we used staples to attach the netting to the wooden post. We did change to door since the original door fell apart. We are using a cheap as seen on TV magnetic screen door. That stays sealed closed unless it gets really breezy or windy. Overall we're pleased with its performance.
Really enjoyed the clip! Lots of memories❤️
Glad you enjoyed it!
hello, how did this hold up during the last 3 winters? update? thanks
It held up fine during its first winter. The second winter we had a major ice storm. I ended up cutting the ceiling off at 2am because of the weight of the ice. I recently hung new netting last week. I did so in a manner so I can easily take it off after growing season. We used it last year with out a ceiling with minimal bird intrusion. We are currently monitoring the new configuration, because of the way that we hung the new netting. The size of the netting that we worked with was from a roll of 14' x 100'. We decided to try installing the netting in one piece. By doing that we ended up with a 3' gap in the middle running the length of the structure. We might cover that gap later if needed. The gap might provide easier access to butterflies which could be very beneficial. There were pluses and minuses utilizing 1 piece verses 4 cut pieces. There's always a learning curve doing something for the first time. Overall we're please with the recent installation. The wooden screen door that we show in the video, was recently replaced. We decided to try using a magnetic screen door this year. If you live in an area where you never get ice storms or heavy snow, leaving up the netting year round would be okay. If you get heavy snow and ice storms I would plan on removing the netting. I might have to make a new video showing the new installation. Thanks for asking.
