These should be taken out of service and replaced with electric
The Spice Island Inn was definitely a good place to have a pint and watch the shops pass by
Unfortunately I was there before opening time but it is very popular😊
I see the most important supplies are already being unloaded, Dave.
Getting their priorities right 😊
Been looking at here, Bruges and Ghent for a cycle next year. Trying to see what i can fit in
Both cities are well worth a visit, very picturesque and, Ghent in particular, very cycle friendly.
Impressive what people can build...
I am always amazed at the craftsmanship in these old buildings. Parts of the Town Hall date back to the 1400's well before electricity and tower cranes!
Love that whine of the starter motor on first turnover. Some power there!
Nice one! 👍🏻
Thanks Johanna 👍🏻
Nice one! Love these colorful doors everywhere.
Thanks Peter. A very well kept village with plenty of colourful houses and many thatched roofs.
@@davidvines8141 I have been to England just once. A week with school, being 16 years old. Been to London and some surroundings. What I do remember, there were milk bottles in front of the houses in the countryside.
@@postcardsfromgermany When I was a child virtually every household had milk delivered to their doorstep by a milkman. The milk bottles had foil tops and it was not uncommon, particularly if you lived in the country, for birds to peck through the tops for the cream that floated to the top of full fat milk. Nowadays with everyone having easy access to a supermarket the sight of a milkman on his round is very rare!
@@davidvines8141 Good old times... 😉 nostalgia is a hell of a drug. I miss those times to be honest. I don´t like supermarkets and all the mess capitalism created. Supermarkets are on top of that. Pure evil.
Wow just looking at RUclips and surprised to see this I live in Hemmingford Grey
It looks like a very nice place to live. Nice that the High Street doesn't get any through traffic and the few people I met early on that Sunday morning were all very friendly😊
Thanks! Very relaxing walk. ❤
Thanks Lisa. it was early on a Sunday morning, nice and peaceful👍🏻
A Locomotive enthusiast… 😊 filmed beautifully David.
Thanks Peter. I like most forms of transport but I admit that I do have an affection for Railways. I have traveled to Dresden, Trier and Koblenz in recent years for rail galas and have visited the Museum of Technology and U-Bahn museums in Berlin. 😊
@@davidvines8141 Ha! Lucky you, I am planing an U-Bahn series on my channel at the moment, starting next year. We have 175 U-Bahn stations here in Berlin, I wanna go in every one of them and starting a video there, then make a photo walk in the surroundings. I haven´t visited these museums yet. I was infront of the U-Bahn museum a few weeks ago, but didn´t go in. Maybe I should next time. I do like the U-Bahn stations here, the architecture, the diversity of each of them. The craziness of some. It´s really special. I think starting photo walks in there, speaking on a bench there, showing the station, making photos there, would be a good start into every video. 175 vids is enough material for 2-3 years and I think its a great way to discover the city.
@@postcardsfromgermany That is a great idea for a whole series of videos and, as you say, a great way to discover and showcase Berlin. When I travel I often hop on a tram or U-Bahn or S-Bahn and get off at random stops in whichever city I am in to have a look around. That is how I found the U-Bahn museum by chance when I got off at Olympiastadion. I then visited the Stadium, which in turn led me to seek out what remained of the 1936 Olympic Athlete Village the next day. As I say, I never tire of Berlin!👍🏻
@@davidvines8141 Sounds great! I´ll think about it for some time and then just do it.
Nice video, Dave. A time warp film if you ignore the traffic.
Cheers Paul.
Nice shots, Dave, and a good sunny day for photography, too.
Thanks Paul. I was lucky with the weather and timing. As it was the only train running it would have been a long wait for it to make its next round trip had I missed it.
Love this walking tour! 😍 really beautiful
Thanks for watching and commenting, glad you enjoyed it. Oakham really is a very nice little market town. Have a nice weekend 👍🏻
Very nice walk David. Looks like the good old England. Really love the old houses, especially those with the thatched roof. Didn´t actually saw a graffiti, beautiful. 😊 Have a nice weekend!
Thanks Peter, Oakham is in an area that doesn't see much tourism and has therefore retained it's traditional charm rather than becoming commercialised. The clocks go back 1 hour in UK this weekend so will be getting darker earlier! Enjoy your weekend 👍🏻
@@davidvines8141 here as well... dark season beginning Saturday night... 😣But yeah, it is, what it is... Still pretty sunny here every day. Nice, but a little rain walk would be nice as well... 😉
I come from the Postcards recommendation as well. Nice walk! I‘m staying for more. 😊
Thank you Emelia, glad you enjoyed it. More walks coming soon!
Jeez. Glad I'm not standing anywhere near those fumes. Impressive power but f*ck those old engines are filthy
Nice! I was living in Switzerland for 3 years. Zermatt, Matterhorn. 😊But I love all of Switzerland. Just a beautiful country. You can take endless walks there and fill up a century... 😂
Thanks Peter. My first time in Switzerland. I was due to fly to Geneva and then travel by train to Zurich and fly back from there but Easyjet cancelled my Geneva flight at short notice. Consequently I flew Ryanair to Basel instead and have rescheduled Geneva/Zurich for next year.
@@davidvines8141 You´ll enjoy it! Geneva, Zurich are nice, but touristy... Lucerne, Lugano, Locarno, Ascona. Absolutely world class... Deeply in love with all of those. Zermatt is expensive, but like no other place in the world. Oh David, nostalgia comes over me and a feeling of going there... 😉 it´s a beautiful country. You can fill up card after card there...
Thank You for Sharing !! 🏝🏛🚂✈🛩🛥💝💖
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it 👍🏻
The Postcards from Germany sent me here and I am enjoying your video. 😊 what a cool village!
Thank you Johanna, glad you enjoyed it. There are some other nice villages in the New Forest and I will be posting videos of them over the next few weeks. I also am a fan of Postcards from Germany 👍🏻
Nice walk! 🌳
Thanks Lisa 👍🏻
Nice one! ❤
Thank you 👍
Ferraris in a village... only in UK... 😂
☺
Looks very nice David. Enjoyed that walk. I watched the whole thing and realized, I should focus more on the quiet parts of Berlin and walk other cities or villages. Really enjoyed the silence and the peacefulness. 😊 Thanks for the inspiration.
Thanks Peter, glad you enjoyed it. I have been doing photo walks around Europe for a few years but it was only when I bought a GoPro earlier this year that I started recording video walks. I really need to upgrade my computer as it takes ages to render 4K videos on my current laptop!
@@davidvines8141 It looks really good David! Yeah, the computer thing... I had the same problem. Bought a Macbook Air M1 I think two years ago and it works fine. The 4K 60 takes a while but the 4K 30 exports really fast. I need to upgrade in 1-2 years as well. I wish these machines would serve us 10 years without any decrease in power. Or at least 7. But it is what it is... 😉
@@davidvines8141 Do you have a website concerning these photo walks or an instagram?
Hi there Again it is Mr Cannadine T. Boxill-Harris, I have another interesting idea for most of us Class 313, Class 314 and that also is including those interesting Class 315 Fans out there, rather than scrapping most of those Class 313's Class 314's including the Class 315's maybe you guys can convert them and including the refurbishment into those Leyland 510 Engine, Volvo B10M Engine, Gardner 6LXCT Engine, Gardner 6LXB, Engine, Gardner 8LXB Engine, Class 313's, Class 314's and the Class 315's and convert all of them into a 2 Carriages and Three Carriages of the Class 313's, Class 314's and that is including those Class 315's for most of us Class 314's and the Class 315's Diesel Train Fans Pretty PLEASE. Are you still going to do this interesting type of Project for all of us out there Please?
Two cylinders are firing just fine. Now for the other ten...
God I am old seeing this, I was 18 when this was first shown in 1988, so 91 or 225 sets are almost gone bar a couple of services left the main fleet has been taken over by some Azuma thing and no HST's left 54 in October 2024. how time fly's eh? I do have this on VHS somewhere here in the flat boxed up.
@@Thunderer0872 VHS is another thing that has dissapeared into the past. I have transferred all the tapes I had that were worth keeping to digital👍
Send them the video then mate lol.
I saw the first Class 91 arrive at Bounds Green depot and it derailed.
Not a great start then, but they have given great service over the years.
Thanks for sharing this, as I like engineering problems.
They did a fantastic job, I love those trains.
Why they hugging each other at the beginning...rainbow team??

with enough rotating mass just 2 out of 12 cylinders can be self sustaining...
Great to see them still giving Stirling service, no pun intended.

Patrick Uden and Paul Fabricius, the producers, were excellent film-makers conveying technical subjects clearly with well-edited interviews - as shown in this great film shown first on Channel 4 in 1988.
Plenty of smoke and noise, but sadly no flames. Anyway, I am glad that my car doesn't start like that.
Shame the Government cut the funding for 140 mph signaling so they never exceeded 125 mph in service. The 800 class are actually slower than these and the HST.
I love this, thanks for posting it. The subject matter interests me but more than that, I love the style of documentary making. If this was made now there would a ridiculous soundtrack implying drama that wasn't there, there would be a 'star' presenter who would be the focus of the camera rather than what was going on and there would be endless tiresome scenes of them in awe of what was going on. A bogey being fitting to the carriage!!!! Wow!!! It's unbelievable!!!!!!
Thanks for your comment. Like you I much prefer this "older" style of documentary.
Nice to see this at Tenterden on monday as a visitor.
The man's irreplaceable. His shows, presentation, passion and sense of humour were radio manna❤😊
Well worth getting sand in your face, Dave. Excellent views.
Cheers Paul☺
Awesome video!! Thank you!
Glad you liked it!
Why does it increase and decrease revs when idling?
Very nice, Dave. Some great shots .
Thanks Paul
