What was a Gulfstream IV doing on Wake Island?

Stopped at Wake in April 1959 for a fuel. I was on a Pan Am 4 engine prop flying from California to Hong Kong. Made two overnight stops in Hawaii and Tokyo. A fuel stop in Wake. A total of 36 hours in the air. Today non-stop Us to HK 14 hours total.

Made a refueling and breakfast stop there in 1963 en route to Tachikawa AB, Japan.

I've read about the Battle of Wake Island during WWII. I didn't realize how tiny the Island actually is.

Landed here on the way RVN in '66 after skirting bad weather. Beautiful Atoll
