I really hate to be that guy, because this is such an engaging and well-written video otherwise, but like I guess I'm hypersensitive (?) about the topic so - It's interesting to me that you can make a point to say "My Immortal was a product of its time, and a lot of what we find weird about it today was actually commonplace and not outstanding in the time that it was written", but then use the Once-ler fandom as an example of "weird fandom psychology" in your intro, as if that wasn't also the biggest product of its time as well that constantly gets hyped up as weirder than it actually was (which I actually strongly suspect was a result of it being constantly bullied by very similar animated fandoms of the early 2010's and those who were doing the bullying later wanting to justify their actions, but who knows). I'm sorry. It's a *major* nitpick, but just something I noticed I guess? Great video. I really hope you got a good grade on this, because you're so eloquent and very effective at getting a point across without like... going on tangents!

Fandom has always been a weird/welcoming space and it’s amazing to see the shifts it went thru, specially because well, I’ve been part of it for 2/3 of my life I guess? So I saw all of this happening and I was one of those people (kids?) writing those fanfics in those fandoms. All of them. Your video is seriously amazing, and the cosplay makes it *chef’s kiss*

Really loved this and hope you end up doing more of this style of video essay on whatever you are passionate about/strikes you fancy. You have a strong authorial voice, you are good that conveying some really in the weeds information about Fandom drama in a way that is accessible to those outside of fandom culture, and you have a very good presentation voice. Also, the couple of cut away jokes you had were real solid. Very happy to see this finally out, and that it was as good as I thought it could be.

I had to drop a comment here to say, I came from Tumblr (I'm Maskedpainter btw) and saw the post after your update saying your professor had greenlit the project. I loved this presentation, I remember My Immortal when it came out and how it has gone from cringe to meme over the years. I was fascinated the whole time on you explaining your thoughts on how it has become such a infamous work and such. Doing it in a cosplay of the main character just made it even better. I am gonna subscribe just so I can keep an eye out for future uploads. I'd love to hear more about how fanfic culture and the standards for writing it has changed over the years, maybe your thoughts on how a crossover can grow and become it's own fandom like the Maribat fandom has exploded over the past year?
