UNESCO added Gammelstad Church Town to their world heritage list in 1996 - motivated by its outstanding universal value and its relevance to all mankind.
The Gammelstad site is the world's most extensive and best preserved example of a church town, with more than 400 church cottages gathered around a medieval stone church.
Gammelstad Church Town is located 10 km outside the city of Luleå, Swedish Lapland.

Eldfest i världsarvet Gammelstads kyrkstad! Eldfesten äger rum en kväll under perioden 2-8 februari månad, samma helg som Jokkmokks marknad. Evenemanget har ett fornnordiskt tema eftersom det under denna helg hölls ett stort blot under förkristen tid.
