    38:00 I am sorry but this mesh is total shit. We used to mesh therse things like an artist (on hypermesh though), solidworks sucks at this or you need to get in control of it. Triangle elements increase stiffness so you will find more stress than you should and it will bring more singularity risks. Thanks for the great video btw.

    My guess would be that the positive ion would quickly capture a electron again, because electrons are much more mobile and are attracted to the ion quickly, it will either neutralize it or knock of electrons again, while the ion is still positive it can accelerate in the electric field. But I guess those ions who finally exit at the end are all neutralized. Or it works completely different.

    A bungled and unnecessary 44 mins video. Enthusiasm is a virtue but must be tempered with knowledge and discipline or it results in what we see here. Perhaps you could make a video when you have understood what you think is worth conveying but please make it less ME, ME, ME.

  • @mattmiller220

    It circulates because the electron is smeared out in space, more so in areas where its momentum can be more precisely observed. Around these locations with some probability the electron tunnels either left or right and the average motion of these electrons (the current) is visualized by the green dot. 🥂

    • @mattmiller220
      @mattmiller220 Год назад

      Further, speculating here, the electrons must synchronize their motions in one direction (clockwise or counterclockwise).

    Hey Colin, really nice work trying and make this very interesting topic accessible. I especially appreciate it since I am working on a project paper leading up to a master thesis about hall thrusters so I guess my knowledge level is kind of like yours. I think part of the open question about the acceleration of the ions is the electric field created between the anode and the space charge of the circulating electrons. This is why it is critical to limit their movement to the anode, which is done by good magnetic field design. The video is only a couple months old, so if you still read the comments we could also exchange some more about it. I'd love to! Cheers! Fabian

    At 41:16 you said that with 3sigma you have a 95% probability but in fact, 3sigma corresponds to 99,7% of probability. Just a litte correction. For those who don't know, he's talking about the normal distribution (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/68%E2%80%9395%E2%80%9399.7_rule).
