Another Strong Aurora Australis - September 12th, 2024, Beechford (Northern Tasmania)
We were blessed with a strong aurora on September 12, 2024, and this time it was visible to the naked eye. Red beams were clearly visible, but not their real-time spatial movement. I was late to the party and only started capturing images from 7:12pm, by which time the aurora was in full swing. This period of ionization continued until about 8:55pm, after which a period of inactivity occurred until roughly 10.05pm. This second aurora burst continued until 12:50am, after which clouds obscured the view.
You'll notice I had to move the camera on several occasions during the night. This was because the aurora moved considerably throughout the first session, fading completely from the south and...

A weak Aurora Australis - August 28th, 2024, Beechford (Northern Tasmania)
Просмотров 7814 дней назад
Not much to show you on this occasion. The video shown here begins at just before 7:20pm on August 28th and finishes at 1:02am. A weak aurora had already commenced when I set up the equipment, and there was a nice burst of activity at 9:17pm. Another small burst occurred at 11:15pm. The equipment used was an inexpensive mobile phone (a Motorola Moto G84), which explains the grainy image quality...
Clouds spoil the show - Aurora Australis, August 12th-13th, 2024, Beechford (Northern Tasmania)

Yet another aurora "all-nighter" occurred on the night of August 12th, 2024. Unfortunately Beechford was in complete cloud and fog until the early hours of the 13th, after which there were brief moments of somewhat clear skies. As a result, this time-lapse video commences at 1:40am and finishes just before 6am (sunrise). The aurora was still performing its magic even as the sun began to rise. T...
Strong and Long! Aurora Australis - August 4th, 2024, Beechford (Northern Tasmania)

Here we have another time-lapse video of a long-duration aurora that occurred on August 4th, 2024, captured at my dark site in Beechford, northern Tasmania. This is the longest aurora event that I have experienced to date. The aurora was near-continuous for the entire night, with several explosive outbursts interrupting weak-to-mid-strength activity. Cloud cover tried to ruin the party and succ...

This is a cropped and image-enhanced version of the July 30 2024 aurora seen here: ruclips.net/video/_eaUrOeCt7s/видео.html. I've included another 45 minutes of footage showing the glow of the aurora slowly subsiding. Enhancing the video also enhances the noise unfortunately, however the fainter aurora is more easily seen. Aurora Australis - on the night of July 4th/5th, 2024

Taken from my dark site at Beechford, Tasmania. Peak activity was at around 1.45am on the 5th of July 2024. Each image in the video was a 20-second exposure at ISO 2500, using my (cheap) mobile phone (thus the grainy quality) and the Android app Deep Sky Camera. This is a time-lapse of 10 minutes of the Aurora Australis that occurred on May 11th, 2024 at 21:32 in Beechford, Tasmania. Hi mate, I see you live in Tasmania. It must be an incredible area to enjoy nature, its unique flora and fauna. Are you still using trap cameras? It would be interesting to rediscover the Tasmanian tiger. We believe that it must still survive in some remote place in the northwest to the southeast of the island, near areas with water such as streams and secondary rivers, far from civilization. In the most inaccessible areas. Greetings from Spain, Iberian Wildlife subscribes to your channel.

      Hello. I'm sorry I did not see you comment until now. Yes, Tassie (Tasmania) is an incredible place with abundant surviving wildlife due to the lower concentrations of people. I think it is highly unlikely the Thylacine survives but I keep my fingers crossed. What's most important now is ensuring all currently surviving threatened species continue to survive, and this is the main reason why I purchased this land (a "rewilding" project). Best regards from Tasmania.

    Or the proper name, as used in Australia, where they come from, is Bouble-barred Finch. They are a finch with a "nice" personality, rarely aggressive with any other birds. In the wild they tend to live in small flocks. I see them sometimes in the bush around my home. Like most finches, they have strong pair bonds.

      Hi Joanne. Oh yes, what you see here is the call of a cock, without a doubt. This 2016 video was taken when I had just started to keep Diamonds, so I was very inexperienced. While hens and cocks can make similar vocalisations, a hen makes nothing even remotely similar to the mating call of a cock.

    • @DragonsOfAra
      @DragonsOfAra 8 лет назад

      Hell Pauline. Update: the cause of this illness appears to be drug-resistant air sac mites. Ivermectin at the recommended dose (here in Japan) of 400ug/kg delivered directly to the crop had minimal effect, about 5 days relief before the coughing returned. A double dose (800ug/kg) had similar minimal effect. I managed to cure this illness by using a 400ug/kg dose of moxidectin (not generally used here in Japan) delivered directly to the crop, with a follow-up dose 10 days later. Have you tried treating for ASM yet? If not, first try delivery via their drinking water before trying crop-dosing.
