Absolute gem of a film. Both actors got Eric and Ernie down to a tee. Fantastic film.
I didnt want that to end --- so many memories and as @Goldi3loxox said .... congratulations to the actors who did a 100% portrayal
There will never be another Morecambe and Wise im so glad i have the pleasure of those two guys at the height of their fame in the 70's this was a brilliant Victoria wood written drama played brilliantly by Daniel Rigby and Bryan Dick fanbloodytastic !
I love the way that Ernie always calls the male guest "Mr" followed by his Christian name. "Mr Des" or "Mr Cliff".
*I've got a little black book with my poems in*
Wise was to light entertainment what ringo star was to music...bloody lucky! Wise had a funny side kick and Star fitted in the band, neither really had talent and would not have got anywhere on their own.
This is wonderful. ❤❤❤❤❤
I love this show thanks for posting it .
Any footage of Eric And Ernie on there BBC show during the first series is always gratefully received and is extremely rare owing to the BBC's 'Junking Policy' of the time, however i am sorry to disappoint both 'Silverscreen TV' who uploaded the episode above and everybody else here but I have the official BBC DVD release of "The Morecambe And Wise The Lost Tapes' DVD I have and the episode above is NOT Episode 1 of Series 1. It is from Series 1 NOT in 1969, it was actually in 1968 for the first series and the episode is 'Episode 6 dated 7th October 1968' this information is taken from the paper pamphlet included in the DVD release, just to clear this up.
I was thirteen ❤😂😂😂😂
Nice that the BBC produced something that celebrates the past instead of degrading it.
Total and utter joy!
Actors nailed this. Every mannerism. Perfect.
Absolutely brilliant 😂😂😂😂😂
They should play this before Wimbledon 2024! It’s still only a game! 2:40
utter quality from start to finish - every actor is brilliant in this, the teen actors, the adult versions, victoria wood - even jim moir, who i've never seen act as convincingly as this, is perfect as the stoic dad - daniel rigby was magical - i physically had tears of joyful nostalgia the first time i watched this - you can tell this was a real labour of love for everyone involved who was old enough to remember the originals
Never liked Victoria Wood much ... not her writing nor her delivery (always annoyingly the same) ... but she's rather good in this!
So really if it wasn't for Eric mother we wouldn't have got one of the best comedy duos of the last century🤔🏴
Marvellous. Thank you.
Their faces in this clip are wonderful
Play more Tolkien, LOTR Two towers,/DC. What's the problem?
This looks So good - thanks for sharing
Victoria and the lads Made M/W Come ALIVE. Those were the Days my friends. Love it thanks
God Bless the late Viccy Wood!
BBC look back at this magnificent piece of work. That is what you used to do, quality biographic films like this, the best sports, unbiased news reporting and wonderful natural history programmes, etc etc et al. Now you are just a leftist laughing stock, with nothing to offer but P C AND ITS ASSOCIATED INSANITY!
I really enjoyed this, but it should have been called 'Eric Morecombe's Mum'. I learnt nothing about Ernie Wise, and little about Eric, but I learnt a lot about Mrs Bartholomew. Victoria Wood was superb, but as she was a producer of this, it makes a little more sense why that decision was made. Having said that I loved it and it captured a time long lost
Absolutely top class production in every respect - fantastic!
Brilliant film... Deep and meaningful as in shows the dark truth about the industry that if you don't follow there scripts you don't get on tv,... But hard work and the power of the people can win,to the point they have to put you on tv because it's what the people want,.. But because they never sold out when they did get there big brake for the second time it was on there terms making them full controllers of there own material also making them a lot lot more money because they not only have the ball they own it and the court... I loved theses two growing up as a kid, it was on show that never got old, and made a path way for other fantastic comics to shine through, all the actors in this film all took the job because they like us are fans and it was a honour for them to be init.. Judy wood, Vic reves,. And let's not forget the league of gentleman, your my wife now... Hahah.. Fantastic film, fantastic ACTING!..! (league of gentleman joke if you missed it)... When people lived in healthy fun loving times with no psychological fear mongering agendas to control the way you think and act unlike what we have todayxxxx
Can someone please tell me were they Jewish?
I remember the story about Mike and Bernie Winters appearing at the Glasgow Empire. Mike came on for a solo with his clarinet. He finished and then there was a 'cheesy' sound as Bernie Winters poked his face out of the curtain. A man in the front row shouted "Oh, F**k there's two of them!"

Eric was once asked 'What would you two have been if you hadn't been comedians?' He answered 'Mike and Bernie Winters'.
Wily old mum attaching Eric to the successful young Ernie.
Brilliant in every way!
How were these guys considered funny? I mean really?
You set up a fake account just to make that comment? Oh dear.
this was great!!!!
Does anyone know if it’s true that Ernie Wise’s family shunned him as it’s portrayed here?
Don't be too hard on Edmund Hockridge. This is not a great performance but he had a fine baritone voice. He came to England serving with the Royal Canadian Air Force in WW2 and provided much entertainment to troops here and in Europe, working with the Glenn Miller and Robert Farnon orchestras. He produced 400 shows for the BBC Forces Network. He successfully sang opera and Gilbert and Sullivan. His hit song 'Hey There' from 'The Pyjama Game' is excellent. His exact style of singing and presentation may be outdated BUT musicals like 'Guys and Dolls' and 'Carousel' (both of which he starred in on stage) are ever popular. Deservedly so. Ted deserves to be remembered favourably.
Loved it! And mum stole the show!!!!
Aye, Victoria Wood, great actress.
If we never had Laurel and Hardy, we would never have Morecambe and Wise, and then we would never have had the chucklebrothers. Three of the best double acts over the years
This is marvellous, and what joy Eric and Ernie shared with the world, and along with the wonderful Victoria Wood they brought sunshine indeed. And a big hug to the gifted and wonderful writer Eddie Braben, whom Stephen Tomkinson plays beautifully in Eric, Ernie & Me.
Apart from comic brilliance, Eric and Ernie, like Stan and Ollie, were just loveable people and it was this appeal that helped to make them so great. They were true friends and this came out in their performances and though they were competitive as on screen characters, their friendship added depth and character to their interaction, understanding each other so well. This drama portrays them so accurately, with excellent casting and scripting. I shed a tear at the end remembering they are now gone and we will not see their like again.
Enjoyed watching from beginning g to end ,they,re both really missed, two talented people and a joy to watch ,😂❤
You leave des O'connor alone😢
27nov2023 Eric and Ernie.2011.(R Sheersmith.J Benson.T Atkinson.Victoria Wood.AldersleyV Reeves)[Jn Campbell][Bowker.id.Wood.wrt.Pearson.ed.TS Ling.ph.Eshkeri.msc}_2bft.8w.11n.8.0_1h30_ .A telling of the fledging careers and early days of the comedy duo that was Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise, from their dance-hall performances of northern England to cult status.// In the run-up to World War Two, Ernie Wiseman, a precocious and confident child performer, is signed up by influential impresario Jack Hylton. In Morecambe, pushy stage mum Sadie Bartholomew drags her slightly reluctant son Eric, an eccentric dancer, from one audition to the next until he too becomes a client of Hylton. The boys do not get on at first but Sadie sees a way to exploit their cross-talk and they form a bantering double act as Morecambe and Wise. After war service they become successful on stage and on radio but their attempt to crack the new medium of television is a disaster because they have been forced to accept a script which will make their Northernness acceptable to Southern viewers. They split up. However Sadie knows the formula that once worked and pushes Eric, now married to dancer Joan, into contacting Ernie. They decide to reform, on their own terms, into the act that would become one of the most successful television pairings ever.// I absolutely loved Eric and Ernie, for me it was one of the best programmes over the festive season. Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise are an unforgettable comedy duo and never fail to make me laugh or cheer me up. Eric and Ernie is a funny and affectionate tribute, and is close to perfection. The only reason why it isn't quite is that I agree it was a little too short. That said, visually Eric and Ernie is lovingly crafted and accurate, while the music is beautiful. The script is in my view superb, Peter Bowker(who also penned the script for the unforgettable Occupation) has a real talent for writing dialogue, the story is beautifully structured and never less than immensely engaging and the chemistry between Eric and Ernie was a joy as well as their antics and routines. The drama is also wonderfully directed, and there is never a dull moment. The acting hits the nail right on the head, Daniel Rigby and Bryan Dick are both brilliant and the supporting cast with Vic Reeves, Victoria Wood and Reece Sheersmith are stellar. Overall, Eric and Ernie was brilliant, you can tell a lot of work and care went into this, and I am just amazed it turned out so well.// Like nearly everyone in the UK I am a huge fan of Morecambe and Wise. I truly believe that they were probably the greatest comedy double act ever. So I watched Victoria Woods biography of Eric and Ernie s early years with a little trepidation. I really shouldn't have worried. The BBC have obviously pulled out all the stops. Eric and Ernie is a master class in how to honour two show biz legends. The writing, direction and especially the performances were simply perfection. Daniel Rigby and Bryan Dick were spot on. They managed to show the friendship between Eric and Ernie without lapsing into parody. Special mention should be made of Vic Reeves who played Eric's dad, George. The part was played with quiet humour and dignity and Victoria wood was especially good as Eric's pushy mother. The only reason that I have given Eric and Ernie 9 out of 10 is that I had a small pang of regret when the credits rolled. I really wished that I could had maybe half an hour more. maybe showing more of the great years of Morecambe and Wise. Maybe one day they could make a sequel, but only if its up to this standard.///
❤️ Victoria Wood 🫡

Black face god that’s a hanging offence these days
Poor old Des, but he probably did well out of MW. One last joke :" I hear Des O Connor's bringing out a vinyl LP! (long player 33rpm LP) should look lovely on the kitchen floor." During the 60s70s vinyl floors in hallways and of course kitchens were very popular, hence the gag.
i thought the series began earlier in the 60s as the beatles was on it
That was ATV.
I saw M+W in Bournemouth in the 60s. They encompass Northern outlook and humanity in the day , and never left their roots. Seen this years ago , like reading a book twice ; gets better. Ref. to George Thornby and Arther Aski ( playmates ) specially. Thanks so much mum !!!. Dave
