£5,000 for a complete retrofit? Pie in the sky grants. If they want everyone to do that the government will have to fund everyone. Also they need to sort out cowboy builders. I consider myself a fairly normal sort of a bloke with a wide circle of friends and I never hear anyone say oh I saved all this carbon how good am I look at me saving the planet. No I hear people saying I saved this much money and it’s ultimately money that drives people. Try going down Tesco get a basket of shopping and try paying with some of your precious carbon savings you will get a swift Fuck off. By the way I have installed two heat pumps and super insulated the houses and the money I saved enables me to buy more diesel for the land rovers to keep my carbon foot print up.

New government incentive is 5k towards the cost and firms offering 0% finance on the remainder for 2yrs, this is going to cost tens of thousands to install and tens of thousands to insulate, part L of the building regs states gad boilers are now to run at a lower constant temp now with oversized rads jst like a heat pump does and 20k is alot of gas.

Think I'll stay with gas.

Tens of thousands of pounds vs a £1700 gas boiler? Which one makes economic sense? All ‘renewables’ are highly subsidised by the government (taxpayers) as well. And look at all the complicated equipment needed for this installation, instead of a small boiler in a cupboard! The cost of all this will take years to pay back in savings ( if there are any), then some of the equipment will need renewing - more cost! This is just simply an advert, not a information video.

I'm curious as to why air-to-air heat pumps were not discussed. They are less cost to install, particularly for properties that require piping and/or radiator upgrades, can have the piping installed outside of the dwelling and are just as if not more efficient as air-to-water. Ground source heat pumps are the "Rolls Royce" design for performance but come with an equivalent price tag. Some air-to-air units now even have direct connection options for PV panels so there is less electric loss with inverters and use solar to it's best advantage while adding grid supply as needed. This would be a lower cost highly effect solution for many people potentially.

Good luck with that. I expect a third world war with the use of nuclear weapons way before 2050. We'll be lucky to have a home to heat or lucky to have a planet left. Don't ban oil and gas, ban nuclear weapons, but that's not going to happen.

Interesting webinar. It was suggested that floors could be insulated over the top with 60mm of insulation and then the doors cut down to suit. The issue with this is that the door if hollow this work will go against the manufacturers maximum trim limits and would result in a narrow bottom rail aesthetically. Given that the skirting would have to be replaced during the floor work then the better option would be to leave the door the correct size and extend the height of the door opening.

Isn't cavity wall insulation to cause issues with damp etc as it bridges the air gap?
