🥰🫶🏽 love this book
I can't stand the way the social conventions of the time ruined both he and Ellen's lives. Yuk! Unrequited love and a missed opportunity!!!
*Every era has its own social norms.* >""Ruined both he and Ellen's lives"< Would Newland leaving his wife and child be preferable? A child left without a father? In the novel Newland states that he, from the time he met her (as an adult) that he wanted May Welland as his wife. It sounds like Newland "wants his cake and wants to eat it too" (that is impossible to do) We all have to make choices regarding our lives. That is part of life!
@@here_we_go_again2571 May gave Newland the chance to break off their engagement. But Newland chose to marry May because he saw how Olenska was condemned by the society and even actively participated in keeping her marriage in tact.
