Nice! Where do you recommend parking your vehicle to ride from and where is a good place to spend the night? Thanks!
What an awesome trail! Even the switchbacks look fun.
Great fricken trail! My brother and I rode it almost 20yrs ago now. We came across a mama grizzly and her two cubs…I about shit my pants! Glad to see it is still open and you can still camp up there! 👍🏻💯
Is this recent ?
Nah, this footage is from Feb 18, 2024
Passed through big horns in 2002 on the way to island park Idaho. Looked amazing after iv always wanted ride big horns. But I’m from upstate NY haven’t had the money or time idk. Thanks for sharing the terrain looks amazing.
Love the channel name - I'm a proper goon myself ha! But found your vid doing my research for next summer. I'd like to ride in the Black Hills on my way to Alaska but have never been to that area. We prefer areas with high concentration of trails were we can dry camp in the van, ride a few days and move on. Any suggesting you'd be willing to share? Thanks Mike
Check out the MVUM for Black Hills National Forest. This area has a good concentration of trails throughout with plenty of spots for dispersed camping. I camp out of my truck when I come ride out here.
Nice, I noticed your sleeping in tents in Grizzly country. Are your carrying a Glock 20?
A 44mag with bear loads
Where is this?
Do you remember about how long this ride took? Thank you, great video!
If I had to guess, I'd say we were out there for like 5-6 hours. That's with taking breaks to soak it all in
@ we ended up doing this ride this past summer. It was absolutely amazing! Thanks!!
Ever ridden the Albany trail?
Not quite yet. But it's been on my list for a while now
Well, that answers my question. Was hoping to get my 4Runner to Kearny lake, but it appears that only dirtbikes can get there. So if there isn't a road, how the heck did the reservoir dam get built?!
Doesn't sound like it's running right.
I found a pdf showing those trails on the Forest Service site. Do you happen to have GPX file? Also, how long for expert riders to do those trails? Half day, Full day? Thanks!
Just wondering how long those trails took to ride? Thanks!
I have all my maps on Avenza & Gaia. We spent about 5-6 hours out there. But that was with taking breaks to soak it all in.
I know these bikes like to loose some bolts and blow the end cap off the exhaust any ideas on how to prevent that? Im thinking about buying one that needs little work for 1500
Do you remember what trails these were? Or where you parked?
i love that trail.I got to get to those Bighorn mountains.
never goon
Well, the grizzies will hear ya comin
Interesting setup on the Husky, have never seen that before. also never been out in that much snow. It was 86 degrees today here in South Carolina today. looks like you were freezing your .... off. but it looks like it was fun too. thanks for sharing
Yeah it's called a snow bike. They sell kits that you can buy to convert your dirt bike. They're made by Timbersled. This was filmed January 27, 2024. Actually not that cold out there. Especially with the right gear on. We were both sweating a little actually.
the video just doesnt give this justice!! great ride guys!!!!!
Wow I’d love to ride that area Awsome brother respect 🫡
I CANT WAIT FOR THE SNOW TO HEAD OUT OF THIS TRACK THIS YEAR
Great vid, thx. Would you say one could get a Tenere 700 and African twin thru reasonably? That first water crossing looked like the only sticky thing but maybe its the typical camera trick where all inclines don't show? Headed out in March. Thx
PROBABLY NOT
Where ya from?
Hey on this route, did you run it clockwise or counterclockwise? So I guess did you start on the east side going up ending on the west or did you start going up on the west side ending at the east?
Clockwise. I rode up the east side and down the west
Bro all respect your on a 250sx 53hp give that thing some gas and a question im looking at new bikes need a 2 stroke with a electric start would this be a good bike for just trail riding and some smaller hills nothing crazy but don't wanna trail bike to slow had to many also looking at a yz250f putting a 18inch back tire and a radiator fan what would you choose?
Will be coming from GA to Idaho this summer. This could be on the way, is it worth a stop for a day?
Most definitely! Tons and tons of good singletrack around here
What was the overall difficulty....novice to intermediate? Anything very difficult/technical?
It's all pretty flowy singletrack. Nothing real technical. I would say about intermediate difficulty.
Great trail ride
Great video! Those 150s definitely have a different sound.
do you have a flywheel weight on?
Nope
I'm planing a trip up there from Utah, this summer. Does ths trail have a number? I can't find it via ON X, by name.
My route for this ride was Big Munger trail (#4205) to Squaw Creek trail (#4205B) to Rock Creek trail (#4205A)
How many miles can you get on average from your sx 250 on a full tank
Honestly, not too sure. My guess would be anywhere from 15 to 20mpg for a stock 250sx. But obviously very dependant on the terrain and riding style. For this trip, I packed a couple of Gatorade bottles full of gas. Ended up upgrading to a 3 gal tank to get more range. The stock tank is only like 1.9 gal. I'm also running a lectron carb, so that helps make it slightly more efficient as well.
looks like it was a fun ride
your bikes powerband seems more tame than my one did you close the valve alittle?
Nope. Just riding it a gear higher for better traction and control on the trails.
Grayte trails
At some point that had to be a monumental task to clear all that deadfall from the 2nd & 3rd trails you rode. Lots of chainsaw action there. I'm guess from past forest fires. I assume these are all deadend out & back trails correct? What was the deal with the string across the trail?
Yeah that must've been quite the job to get all that cleared. I'm guessing all the downfall was either from forest fires or wood beetle kill. The first two trails (#025 & #059) are dead end trails because they run into the wilderness boundary. The third trail (#116) isn't a dead end as it connects to some other trails and forest roads on the other end. There is another couple short singletrack trails towards the end as well. So you can do a bit of a lollipop loop if you want to. Honestly not sure what the string was there for. We rode that trail the day before and it wasn't there so I was surprised to see it. Didn't seem like a booby trap or anything though.
Ride Upton all the time in the spring. Great place to knock the Winter cob webs off .😊
Oh yeah! Seems like a great area to ride in the spring!
I've been riding Upton for a long time. Haven't hit this section yet. Now I gotta find it.
Do you know if the campground has a name?
We didn't camp at an established campground. This was all dispersed camping. Which, in my opinion, is much better. If you're looking for some established campgrounds, there's a few in the area.
@@endurogoons2735 we much prefer dispersed camping as well. Thank you so much!
Awesome video. We'll be heading up this summer. Is there enough riding for a couple of days?
More than enough! This is just a small fraction of what's out there!
How much oil do you pour per 1 liter of gasoline? Does it pollute the spark plugs from driving at low revs? And what stars do you have in front and behind?
I run all my two strokes at 44:1. Never fouled a plug ever. Even when running at low rpms. And by stars, I'm assuming you're talking about sprocket size. I believe it is just stock gearing, which is a 13 tooth in the front and 50 tooth in the rear. Hope that answers your question.
Wow, 23ml per 1 liter of gasoline is pretty small. My friends pour 30-35 ml per 1 liter of gasoline, for greater safety of the piston Spring would have come sooner, I have never ridden a 2-stroke motorcycle before, only a 4T.))) I will also drive along forest paths, country cross. I would also really like to learn how to jump, it's very scary for me
@@the_Jonny_ Actually no, the fuel mixture is just fine. The piston is plenty safe lubricated I can assure you. I run Maxima Castor 927 fully synthetic oil. Lots of guys say to run 32:1 but run shitty oil. I find it makes the bike run much worse and doesn't offer any added protection. Experience over hearsay. Been doing this for years and have put lots of hours on these bikes. Good luck adjusting to the two stroke this season. They're a lot more fun than the four strokes
@@endurogoons2735 Thanks for the information. I bought Ipone oil, next time I'll take maxima 👍
Dudes…. I want to go too. I’m down by Cheyenne.
More the merrier!
I live in Ranchester Wyoming look me up next time. 2023 KTM 300 XCW
Hell yeah!
Great video. Looks like a good loop.
I’m really enjoying your videos. So much that I want to plan a trip this coming summer. I will need to purchase the maps for the area. Can you send me the area numbers , from the National Geographic maps?
What you are looking for is the MVUM (Motor Vehicle Use Map). Here is the link for the Big Horn National Forest MVUM - www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprdb5279103.pdf I would suggest using some sort of mobile map app like Avenza or ONX Offroad. That way you can use your phone as a GPS and link it to the map. Also, carry a paper copy as a backup. Reach out to me if you're interested in a guide
Beautiful
Beautiful
Man, that feeling when it starts and keeps running!! Nothing better!!
Watched my dad do this about 20 miles in the middle of nowhere and we didn’t have a spare plug. It was a busy enough trail but was about to get dark. We ended up burying his bike and I rode him the 20 miles out on the bike. Talk about horrible. Started pouring down rain. We were supposed to head home that night. Needed up sleeping at the cabin and going back to get the next day. Always be prepared!
Nothing like a creek crossing to make you break out in a cold sweat!
