Watch this BEFORE The First Omen Prequel | A Rapid Recap
I'm glad more and more people are realizing this Also... the intro with the recovery of the alien 'cocoon' is ripped off from the monolith scene in 2001: a Space Odyssey, with the creepy chorus and everything.
In my opinion Alien Romulus was a step in the right direction. Not on the same level as the good Alien movies but not on the same level as the bad ones.
@Evtim_25 Hey 🖐️ I don't disagree with you, and based on the Rotten Tomato scores etc I'd say a lot of people weren't bothered by the repetition I kept tripping over. Which one of the series is your favorite (if you have one)?
@ I’d say Aliens, although one of my main criticisms towards Romulus was how much material they just “borrowed” from the movies people love.Instead of reciting old lines they can at least try to make new ones
@Evtim_25 Yes! Exactly my point. For example. Bjorn called Andy "bitch" throughout the story, and that was Fede setting up the "get away from her you bitch" ripoff. It blew up in his face because it lacked all the context/nuance of the original quip from one protective mother to another. All he needed to do was change it to "asshole" or some other generic insult, and he could've paid homage to one of the most famous lines in film in a humorous and respectful way. But I don't honestly think he thinks that far ahead.
@ That’s my gripe with the movie too,it’s well done, the special effect, top notch and watching it in 4D was an amazing experience but really it lacked in the character department and that’s something I notice in a lot of “modern” movies
It's definitely a prominent feature in modern horror, isn't it? They seem to prioritise the actors appearances, probably because they know the writing isn't solid enough to hang the story on anyways. I'll never understand why things have shifted so far away from basic character development. I've probably watched close to 300 horrors in the last two years for the channel, and I can probably count on one hand the number of characters I've cared about. And if you don't care about the characters in a horror movie (or at least one of them), it's just Friday the 13th on repeat.
We need to get JR to 10,000 subs ASAP!! I’m telling everyone I know about your channel brother.
Much appreciated 🖐️😎
it was the directrecreation of a shot from A3 that got me.absolute xerox
And once you've noticed it, there's no going back... 🖐😉
Perfect recap! Thank you for watching it for us 👍 That poor cat 🐈 😮😅
My pleasure, as always Julie. Yeah, this one wasn't what I expected at all. Its a pity they attached it to the Quiet Place name, there was a lovely story in there somewhere (when you're not preoccupied waiting for aliens of course)..
The guy hates robot because robot let someone die could also have been lifted from I-Robot where Will Smiths Detective character hates robots because it saved him rather than a young girl.
Exactly! I had to limit myself to things he'd copied from other Alien movies, otherwise I bet we could've demonstrated the whole movie was lifted from other peoples work 😉
L take
Does that mean you're a fan of the film?
wdym L take, Imma big fan of the franchise and there was some good points
I think you're the first review I've heard that picked up on the impossibility of the Nostromo salvage mission. The fact that the xeno was found ANYWHERE near that ridiculous wreckage just made me know we were going right down the toilet. You also picked up on a few things I missed (can't believe I didn't see the bobbing bird toy!), but I'm curious if you missed the silliness of the plan hatched by the company-owned serfs stealing a company-owned ore hauler and expecting to just jaunt off on an INTERSTELLAR FLIGHT with no trouble and no chance of being tracked down by the insanely controlling company, or if you just decided to not mention it because of the metric TON of other plot holes and copy/paste story beats you had to cover? I'd understand if that one fell by the wayside, but it had me gritting my teeth in the cinema
It actually was written into my original draft, but I felt like there was ample fruit left on the tree after the fact they shouldn't even have been able to leave the planet in the first place hahaha. Like seriously? You wouldn't be able to do something like that in OUR day and age, never mind in the conditions they're fighting so hard to escape from in the first place. Such a shame they can't find the right combination of 'right' with all these sequels/prequels. Covenant & Prometheus looked great but felt convoluted and loose to me.
@@JonnyRecaps it's funny, but I feel like the trend to creating detailed cinematic worlds actually makes some movies WORSE. It's a trap of details that can end up not making sense. I guess simpler can really be better sometimes
Yep. Agreed. And I think that further highlights the lack of quality writing nowadays. You need to be able to show the audience what they need to see and nothing more. If the movies well-written, I shouldn't even be able to write a review like this, right?
Haha nice opening joke. Also 2 vids in less than 24 hours???? What did do do to deserve such content??
I found this movie a bit dull until the last 5 minutes. The ending with Samira blasting the tunes was interesting. Great review, my friend. The "Cliff Notes" for movies.
I really struggled with this one. I think its a "very nice" movie. The acting was great, aesthetically speaking they covered all the bases, but you can't take a hard left turn on the 3rd instalment of a trilogy and expect everybody just to be on board with the decision. I know its a prequel, but its obviously following the success of the first two. People are going to have expectations (and they haven't met mine with this movie).
First off, I love the environment you surrounded yourself with, absolute perfection. Second, you're spot on with your ending thoughts. Just knowing there are horrible humans mixed in with society makes this film that much more terrifying. I watched this movie some years back. Third, the Athens Georgia incident was a real life example of this exact evil. RIP Ms. Riley.
Thank you so much for your repeated kindness, and thank you just as much for noticing the tie-in. You only need to turn on the news to confirm the reality this kind of films portraying. I wasn't sure how to vent my frustrations about that situation from all the way over here, so I had a few shirts made. I can't thank you enough. I'm chipping away at the last piece of equipment I'll ever need (wide angle lens), and you've just added a nice chunk of weight to the envelope 🖐🙂
@JonnyRecaps, my pleasure
Jonny boy!....i have the bluray...but I've not yet watched it.....im still on a marathon of some Kino Lorber classics. But i will say this: i want a facehugger mask for my CPAP device 😎
Now THAT would be a brilliant alarm clock for the missus, wouldn't it? Hahaha. Very good.
Hehehe, right!? 🤨
Watched it recently I don't get why it did so well, loved the set up even thou it was a mixture of the films and games and then it basicly pooped the bed so disappointing.
Right? It even has super-high scores across the board at Rotten Tom's. I'm not saying that's something to go by, but its an indicator of SOMETHING.
@@JonnyRecapsthat people like it?
Christ I don't think I can watch this film, a beautiful description all of it illness regret unfulfilled the feeling of not enough time, maybe one day.
It definitely swims in a different direction than the first two did. It feels more like a family drama with some explosions and a lovely cat.
Thank you
Not at all, Shel. Thank you for watching the review. Have you seen the film already?
What????
I've no idea how long its going to last, but the copyright claims lifted AT THE MINUTE 😃
@ hopefully you sneak through the algorithm.
Keep em comin buddy
Wasn’t a fan but I’ll take the little when I can lol
You and me both, bro haha
The movie still STUNK
It certainly wasn't what was advertised. It wasn't poorly made or anything, I just don't think it was in the same conversation as the first two in the trilogy. Bizarre choice
*Fight The Power* mr Recaps..(!) (Ambivalent towards the first 2 in this franchise so didn't watch this preq...)🦉👅🎥🎬™️©️👍🏼🙏🏿✔️
I'll keep fighting right along side you lad. It's a stupid, pointless, uneccessary to have to fight, but at least we aren't running away...................................... Yet
thank u this looked way too boring to watch
I didn't hate this one at all, but exciting it was not (in other words, good call 😉).
Why did you blur the captions?
They were distracting because I was also explaining what they were saying. It would've felt cluttered.
Thank you ! for sharing Jonny 👍
My pleasure Lee
SUCCESS, MURFERRS!!!
You got it unclaimed? Nice!
Ain't that a kick in the head, huh?
I’m definitely going to watch this now, but I’m upset that we didn’t get to hear your Australian accent throughout the video 😂
Me too in hindsight. You know yourself how much easier it would've been than bringing a live kangaroo onto the set 😎
JJ sure came along way since *Summer City* with this heinous turn.. (!) Tbf tho, WC2 gets lotsa stick it doesn't really dserv - an the two limited series were also decent enuff for Urs Truly...but then again, I jus turn up for the Ozploitation tropes an Mick's *gutteral/nasal snorts* 🎥👍🏼👅©️🎬™️
Based on Millat murders
Based on backpack murderer Millat
Yeah, I didn't bother mentioning any of the "based on real events" aspects because the connections were so loose 🖐️😊
A modern movie with actual character development? I’m in.. say no more
@@ericbush1544 If you end up checking it out, come back and let me know what you thought 🖐️
Haha! the jerks got me on this one back in the day too.
I read there is a 3rd installment in the making..."Wolf Creek: Legacy" with John Jarrat returning as legendary Outback serial killer Mick Taylor. I have watched this one...need to seek out the sequel.
Have you seen any of the television series? I prefer the original film out of all them, but none of them are bad (which is a rarity in itself)
@JonnyRecaps i was not aware there was a tv series...but no, i have only watched the first film. Jonny.....have you watched " Stake Land"? released 2010.
I loved both Wolf Creek movies!! Great review really enjoyed that!! I just thought it was one of those throw away tubi movies or something but I was pleasantly surprised
I caught the first one during a Sunday afternoon "I've got nothing else to do for two hours" scenario and it was the same pleasant surprise for me. What a performance eh?
You have a way with words my friend, a true modern poet haha
I remember this movie being ok. Have you seen the sequels?
Guess I’m just desensitized because it never felt extremely graphic. I saw the sequel before the first one so this one seemed slower and tame in comparison. I enjoy getting to know the characters but didn’t find them interesting enough to stay with them so long. The slow decent from friendly banter to hostile was a thing of beauty from a character standpoint. Love the word play with the violence… well played my friend lol
I had no issues with the usual physical side of things, but there was a time or two in that first garage scene when I kept trying to imagine what the actors must've been saying to each other prior to them calling "action". I'm assuming there must've been a lot of "are you sure you're okay with this" prior to him rubbing her face into his region etc. He's so good at that role though. Like you said, him switching from charming to alarming takes skill. Have you seen part two or the series?
@ yea that’s what I was saying I saw the sequel before I saw this one it was a lot more fast paste. I’ve seen the first season of the series.
Manubrium? Guy spends a few days in the hospital, now he's better than us...
😂
Would it help if I revealed the truth of the matter? You're kind of correct, it was the hospital. I was trying to say "steering wheel", but it kept coming out that way because they've given me the wrong pill strength.
Great review... but I'm still a little scared to see this one. I'm a maybe on this. After I watch mothman again maybe...
I'm not sure if this will help, but there are two versions of W. C. Avoid the one labelled 'uncut' if you do decide to go ahead with it 🖐️
Thanks! Great to have ya back!
That's very, very kind of you. Thank you. Have a think about it, and let me know a movie you'd like me to cover. It can be one you love, or one you hate, or something you'd just like analysed 🖐️😊
And take your time, no rush if nothing comes to you right away.
@@JonnyRecaps The Wolf of Snow Hollow would be one that I would be interested in hearing your thoughts.
I've got a copy of it on its way to me as we speak. I'll get it queued up as soon as I can fit it in. Can I ask, is there a reason you chose this one? It's not the typical type of request I get. Thanks again for the support, it means a lot to me 🖐️😊
@@JonnyRecaps I would say because of it's mixed elements of mystery, horror and comedy. I think it was well reviewed went it came out but not something people tend to recommend. Here's to hoping you enjoy it as much I did.
