Left Charlotte, NC for Fort Mill, SC 15 and never looked back. Can't believe you left out Greenville, SC. School districts in SC are much better than NC. Charlotte/Meck has 1 very large school district the is very administrative heavy. York County SC has 4 districts that are much smaller and more responsive to student needs.

He is pretty good at giving you a lot of information, do your homework before you move here, traffic is really horrible, Charlotte has a lot of growing pains, I moved here in the 1980s and the City is about 3 million in the 6 surrounding areas. Tip, live close to your job, or if you are interested in retiring here, careful with the HOAs in planned communities. Buy in a well developed area, that way you know what is around you, because it’s going to change. Tip if you are buying a Townhouse, buy a Townhouse in Town. They are everywhere and at the moment going for $399.000 plus the HOA which always goes up. At least in Town your Townhouse will build equity in the burbs not so much. Good Luck

I moved here from FL in 2023. Here are some cons on my list. I live in the Charlotte area. -Property taxes you pay every year on your vehicle when you register it. -Yearly vehicle safety inspections -Yearly vehicle emission testing -State income tax - I-77 dynamic tolls can cost upwards to $300/month if you use it daily. Traffic is terrible on I-77. - Compared to FL diversity is super slim in terms of population and food choices. - No liquor stores attached to grocery stores. Can only buy liquor from ABC (state ran liquor store) and they are closed Sundays. Other than those cons the state is great!

American Expat here thinking it's time to return to the states within the next few years. I'm researching Tega Cay primarily for my kids' education and their future's. They are currently 3 and 7 years old. I am an older father with a foreign born wife. She does not have a college education and would have a green card so she can work legally, and while I have an MBA and have been an international school teacher for the past 25 years, I have lived in Asia so I have no license to teach in SC. I am also 56 and would probably be around 60 when and if this move occurs. As it stands now I could buy as much as a 600-700 K house in cash and a couple cars so we'd have no mortgage or car payments, I already set up a trust for each of my kids and already dropped six figures in each, right now they have about 140K each, so when college time comes they are probably already set and financing it will not be an issue, and hopefully they'll have more than enough to get PhD's if they desire. Those are the positives I've worked for, but we would continued needing income and medical insurance as I do not have enough to retire and would need to continue working. I would work at Target or Walmart or wherever quite frankly as I would be concerned that I couldn't find better at my age. My wife would do whatever job she could land for the kids and her work ethic is second to none having come from a background of abject poverty and fought hard to get out. She is fluent in Chinese, Thai and English. She's also an amazing cook and would fit in working in a Chinese or Thai restaurant cooking or serving. We'd hit the ground running I'd imagine and, like everyone else, do our best to move up to bigger and better things for us and the kids. So I guess what I'm asking is "are we employable?" and with this rough accounting can we have a good lifestyle and acheive the goals we have as a family for our kid's safety, happiness, education and future? Thanks to any responding.
