Hi Bobby , this isnt really what you would class as crud in my opinion , its moredead bacteria shedded from the moving bed . If the jap matting wasnt there this would all be stlling in the pond , so it makes sense to catch it before it entersthe pond. Also i know of jap matting filters that havent been deep cleaned for years with no ill effects , cant see this having an effect on the issues with parasites either buddy 👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Yet there are people on YT with absolutely spotless set ups and drums that have had just as many issues 🤔. Not sure how you've got to that correlation to be honest.

@andreashessler838 the cleaner i keep my set up the less issues I have. I.e no detritus lingering anywhere degrading the water. Or I'm just really lucky. Funny that

@@bobbyknox9258 Water degradation and parasites are two separate issues. I would suggest that parasites do better in water with better parameters. That makes sense, no? It's stress that let's parasites get a foothold with koi, which is why they're worse when the water temperature is changing.

They will eat wherever they can mate , the are like hoovers. Saying that they do like to grub around on the bottom a lot Les. 👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Hi peter , if im honest i thinknthe fish tank heaters did a great job and paird with an stc1000 or inkbird controller they were ver controlable Its my first year with an ASHP and im a bit like you where mine only goes down to 15 🤔 and personally i wold have liked around 8-10. For me its the cost saving on electric thats swayed me to the air soirce , 600watts compared to 1kw on the fish tank heaters 👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

@BlackCountryKoi thanks for me. I would not want to keep the pond at a reasonable temperature about 12/15 for winter to leave out the colder spots. But if the ASEP .will not go down to that temp, then I'm left thinking is it worth heating at all .I will see how you get on . And it has to improve for you now surely
