Thanks for this video. I'm from Texas, but originally from Northeast Ohio. In the last couple of years I have periodically called Cleveland area Honda Dealers but I've gotten away from it for awhile. Because of this video, I started requesting OTD quotes from NE Ohio dealers last Fri. My thinking is that its wintertime and that Type Rs will sit until Spring. Sales manager who called me said exactly the same thing. I am picking up my CW on Jan 2 and driving back to Houston. $44,813.73 including doc fee, license, & registration. Pay taxes in Texas. I currently have a 2018 GTI. I have not driven the Type R which I would love to. A lot of FL dealers charge mark up. Is the price worth it? I think that going out of state is not a bad idea and it is about the experience. There are a lot of used ones for sale around 45K I might as well buy new.

Bro - I got mine for $51,082.34 out the door - I live in Menlo Park - Bought it from Rock Honda Southern California - slightly under MSRP - Also I had walked into Honda San Jose - they were going to sell it to me for ~1500 over MSRP. Did you try Rock Honda ? It's I think the 3rd largest dealership in the USA - Everyone needs to REFUSE over MSRP - it's a honda civic

You just have to look around.. i bought my TYPE R at MSRP in Santa Barbara

got the 2024 same color, MSRP plus 1500 markup, havent driven it that much but very happy with the purchase

The experience matters a lot more than cost most times, but especially when you can pay for all this and still have a lower price than buying local

I would do this, but I don't trust the transporters with a sporty car. Maybe a long road trip back during the spring.

how much is your insurance each month on your CTR? i am in the bay area too want to get a idea on how much it would cost for insurance.

ADM is still $5k+ in Cali? I find that hard to believe. I bought my FL5 about a year ago from a dealer in Visalia for less than $3k over. The other thing too is MSRP for a 2023 was $2k less vs a 2025. How long were you shopping for one? With patience and some determination, you can get one for less without going out of state.

I can't imagine buying a car out of state and not driving it back. But then again, if the car is right I'd fly cross country for a $500 car and drive it back lol.

I did the same thing I went out of state to buy my 2025 civic type r, the dealer I got it from had no markup they wanted msrp which was 47,154 and after my trade and fee etc I walked away paying 41k. I drive 5hrs to get it everywhere was charge 5-10 markup great video

Glad that you didn't "feed the bears". $5-$15k markup in CA is an absolute joke! Scooped up mine MSRP in PA and spent a day and half getting to the car and bringing it home and would not hesitate to do it again. Got to do some exploring and try some local foods while visiting. The dealer I bought mine from required in-person document signing for others that bought out of state - most likely dealer policy with their legal dept. You're still ahead & beats paying markup. To answer your question - it definitely is worth your time to travel out of state to avoid getting ripped off in CA. You got the price, color CTR you wanted and got to travel to a new place for some new cultural experiences.

Dealers still asking for 10k over. Outrageous.

Like someone else said, the S+ mode makes the car feel very engaging and it shifts very quick. I know some are nervous since newer hybrids from Honda, like the new civic, have good low end but fall off very quickly. Based on the video posted by that Japanese journalist, it reacts well and pulls even at higher speeds.

Congrats on the car! Love this car so much. I initially enjoyed the pumped in audio but ended up turning it to the minimum since it got a bit annoying. Love the fact that there is an individual mode so I can have the +R handling without the pumped in audio.

Put 18” VOLKS on the FK8 and I think it wins aesthetically. If I were buying a TypeR, I wouldn’t be going for a refined look. I’d want it to look like an aggressive hot hatch which is why I prefer the FK8.

Damn dude. Sorry for the loss. I don't know how this popped up. Lost my pops last year Dec 2023. He was 88. Facing same thing with mom and what she wants and figuring out what's best. She is declining mentally but is still there physically. My dad was sharp mentally until his last breath but not capable physically. We were lucky to have him that long but still think about him daily. There is comfort that he is not in pain as is your pops.

Damn. I have a Golf R 7.5 DSG. Championship White would be my choice if I were to pull the trigger. Seeing this car out on the roads just makes me grin. L.A. traffic is just terrible though which is why I have the auto.
