Shine Armor Review Drifting the broken E36
When I got mine 2 years ago, I hated it because it's FWD & the lower quality interior (came from an Audi TT). But after growing up, I realized everything about this car is fantastic for the price & compared to other cars. I just recently started playing with throwing the back end around in corners. It's a very agile car despite it's weight. On top of that, a basic cobb OTS tune has me running off from a lot of cars I thought I'd lose from. It's a well built performance hatch
You can’t beat the price, I wish the RS was as reasonable because I love AWD cars but I can’t afford it. Get it dyno tuned or data logged and it will feel like a different car. OTS tunes are only so good because your car will perform different with altitude, humidity, and temperature
@jaredblair01 ikr?? I've been looking at those & the Golf R. Even if there was a way to AWD swap the ST without trading my soul for the funds, I'd do it. I've noticed that with the OTS. I'm planning to go strat or JST in the near future. Cobb is giving me a LOT of negative corrections
@@datboycharles golf R’s are sweet, but also an expensive unit. I had a buddy with a full bolt on one, and it made my sti look like a Prius 😂
@jaredblair01 Good grief 😭 I like the stealthiness of the Golf R tho. I actually put small decepticon badges on my ST because no one suspects it to move the way it does lol
I'm buying a 2004 350Z soon
Im about to buy a 2004 350z for 4500 at 80000 miles, you think its worth? it looks well kept and maintained.
Where are you located ? In Denver, that price means there’s something wrong or they are really trying to get rid of it! If that’s not the case, that sounds like a steal. Hard top?
Own one about restore.Thanx!
What all needs to be done to restore it?!
Boosting my e36 with an eBay turbo kit next week. Seems to be the same application as the maXspeedingrods kit. Did you have to use a turbo mount or change the motor mount with it being a bottom mount manifold?
@@Femtosett I would 100% recommend getting the turbo motor mount. Especially if you have the 2.5L 323is. It will give you so much room. I have the stock motor mount and it’s a pain in the ass. Spend the $150 on eBay and get the good one
I love my 06 sti, but its at a point where I need to redo the whole suspension, paint it and also it needs new wheels and tires. IDK if I want to deal with all of that so I may sell :(
I just dealt with a ton of water damage issues. The tail light seal was split and flooding my trunk when it rained, and the way I park, it got into the carpet and went to the front seats. I pretty much had to gut the interior to get everything dried up. I’m at the point to where I’ve put so much time and money into it, it would be too sad to sell 😂 make a budget plan and see if you would stay positive to redo it or make more money selling!!
@@jaredblair01 That makes sense. When you put so much into these cars it gets hard to let them go. I newer STI with zero needs sounds good too tho haha
@@MrRedsi if I were to buy a new one I’d do an exhaust and a cold air intake and call it quits 😂
@@jaredblair01 that and maybe some new wheels. LOL
@@MrRedsi if I were to buy a new one I’d probably just end up gutting mine and tracking it. Then I don’t have to worry about it😂
Is this same on sedan?
It should be very similar, the only difference would probably be the trunk pieces !!!
What was your issue exactly? Diaging overheating sti and tried everything but water pump. No seaping. Passes HG test.
It would start overheating and then just start dumping coolant. Replaced thermostat and it fixed the issue for like 30 minutes and then started dumping coolant again. I replaced everything except for the water pump so just figured it was that. I’d also double check the thermostat housing for leaks because after everything was reinstalled with new hoses the housing was seeping by
to answer the title and the question, yes it is especially if you're not dealing with snow. have driven mine new to 114k and have taken it across the continental US and into Canada. it's a champ
Even in snow with some blizzack tires, it’s still a good car. The only thing I’d worry about at that point is getting high centered 😂
This was awesome thanks man! I just broke my arms here a year ago and I’m scared to go back but this helped me
Hell yeah!!

@@jaredblair01 local eco boost shop that specializes in 2.0/2.3/5.0 ford motors ( currently closed due to EPA), but yes tuned thru brew city boost. Currently thinking about a different tuner to update my tune.
When I got my 07 sti limited it came with an aftermarket sti wing. Was leaking and same as yours the whole trunk interior was moldy and end3d up stripping and throwing the clothe interior out. Good thing the original wingless trunk came with the car and I just swapped it back and sold the wing
Probably the best bet to run without the wing unless you can keep it in a garage and keep the weather stripping out of the elements when it’s dry weather. I just love the look of the wing or I would also run it without
bro needs to decide if he's wearing the hat or the hood
Swap out the radio for sync 3 that’s what I did for my st1
im surprised at how cheap you can still get these considering the cult following. My guess is the chassis just isnt special enough. subaru made the sti, wrx and plain old impreza all the same style. No special bumpers or chassis/wide body. Just some silly dinky overfenders for the sti which you can easily clip onto an sti.
Yes absolutely. I mean the price has definitely sky rocketed since 2018 or so, but if you look at how much compared to other stuff like Evo’s they are 100% still reasonable to buy!
@@jaredblair01 agreed, with time as the wrx are used and supply diminishes I can see the sti sky rocketing way more just like classic mustangs or skylines. They are very special cars they just didn't get a fair start. I think Mitsubishi did everything right at the time. It had a bulletproof inline 4 and evolution line is a completely different refined car from the base lancer chassis. Yea it blows my mind how cheap they still are considering today's market and makes me scratch my head why I still don't own one.
@@vladbej959 if I could afford an evo I would have one, but I would add it to the collection instead of replacing. The sti and evo competition is hard because they are equally important to the car community and both amazing machines!
the speed3 was better

True! Gotta keep all seals in good condition!
Any idea on what ECU or tuner you’ll use?
No clue yet. I read a forum that they could tune stock ECU, but I can’t trust every forum. I was gonna reach out to after hours auto sports here in Denver and see what they recommend. They tune bmw’s!! Do you have any recommendations?

Trying to help a fellow enthusiast. I welded my wastegate to the turbine housing. Ez access and good boost control. And weld a 90 degree cast elbow to your compressor. You can route your intercooler piping above your subframe. It was a little tight but i got about 1/2in clearance from the engine mount and subframe. Get everything chopped, cleaned and ready to weld and have a shop do it. Cost me about 100$ or so
When you say turbine housing, you mean you welded the waste gate directly onto the turbo? Making it like a factory built in waste gate ? I found how to route the intercooler piping right at the end of the video! It is a tight fit for sure
@jaredblair01 yah sort of. I cut a 1-1/2in inch hole into the turbine housing and welded a schedule 10 tight radius elbow to it to mount my 44mm wastegate. Skid Factory has a video on putting wastegates directly to turbos. It saves a ton of headaches and gives ez access. At first i ran a wastegate relocation pipe off the manifold. Had good boost control but changing wastegate springs sucked balls and i chased some exhaust leaks too.
@@elijaah81 I’ll look into them! Thanks for the help bro!
@@elijaah81hey bro where did you get the watergate adapter
@elicampos8869 the wastegate directly to turbo is all custom. But if you have a SPA turbo manifold then you can run SPA 44mm wastegate relocation pipe. It says E36 fitment but it fit my E46 perfectly fine. 100% bolt on solution. Just a pain in the ass to install

I’ve been daily driving mine for the last 3 months and I actually just blew a coolant line or radiator on my way to work Monday 😂 (I bought a new daily Sunday). I’m gonna miss daily driving it, but time to start building it!
Bro that's not how the DCCD works. It is either less locked or more locked. It is not shifting the torque from the front to the rear.
Really? I’ve talked to a bunch of people and they all agree with it transferring power from front and rear wheels. If it is what you’re saying then good info man!! I appreciate the feedback
