Pandit Arvind Kumar Azad was born in Jamshedpur, the largest city in Jharkhand, to a family of tabla players who originally hailed from Bihar. He received his initial training in the instrument from his father, Lal Baboo Prasad, an eminent tabla player. Not true. Ustad Zakir wouldn’t want us to end the legacy of the future with this kind of thinking. When his father and many other artists were out there, they were the greatest and no one could replace them at the time. But Greats have emerged after, such as Ustadji himself. Whiles legends never die, they’re are many more artists that have the capability of becoming great, and shouldn’t be held back with the idea of no one will be able to pass Ustadji. He is the One of the Greatest of all times in my heart, but Ustad Allah Rakha Saab, and Ustad Latchman Singh Seen and many others will also hold a place at the top. And I’m sure our future generations will have many Greats as well.
