Odsp doesn't pay enough to live let alone live in and with dignity. Odsp is like 30% or more below the poverty line. It hasn't had an increase in like 10-20 years since mike harris was in office. Ford is claiming to give a five percent raise which isn't nearly enough for today's living standards and for today's inflation. Rent these days are 1100$-2400$, max a single person can make on odsp is 1169$, and like 495$ of if it is for shelter but you cant even get a good 1 bedroom for less then 900$ in today's living standards (like for real when was the last time you seen a 1 bedroom for 400$ or less? Early 90's maybe) many recipients are choosing between rent & bills or to simply eat a meal (in some cases recipients are only eating one meal day because that is all they can afford). Some now are going as far as to says they are going to legally take their own lives (aka MAID) to spare themselves from what's to come if the government doesn't double odsp and tie the increase to inflation as well.
