I think the comparison to chess is reasonable, but it is better compared to poker, where prediction is required to play well, Pokemon is, in some ways more complex than Chess depending on how you want to define it

I already made a video on this but Pokemon is NOT a chess game. Chess is a game with 2 main components that seperates it from Pokemon: 1. Actual board movement. Pieces move to specific spots to strategize with multiple pieces out in the front lines. All you have out in Pokemon's main system is one monster out at a time and Singles has so many problems that Game Freak basically brushes under the rug by making the official format a bring 6 use 4 2v2 in VGC. 2. Specialization Pokemon is in a weird spot where there is both too little and too much customization where Dragon Quest Monsters offers far more customizing and Yo-Kai Watch on the other end of the spectrum offers true specialization. Chess pieces are specialized. They can only move certain ways and you cannot set their skills to change that. Because of Pokemon lacking TRUE specialization, it leads to alot of overlap where certain monsters do the exact same thing anyway. Very few Pokemon are actually "unique" due to this like how in Singles the Pokemon Electrode will often run the same optimal Volt Switch sets you will get out of similar Pokemon like Jolteon, Mega Manetric and Regieleki. Chess only has that in one piece hence why the queen is the unquestioned top tier cuz she can do anything any other piece can do. Both of these features exist more in Yo-Kai Watch 3 where you have actual board movement and monsters have incredibly specialized movesets. Pokemon meta has more in common with rock-paper-scissors than with chess.

On the pay to win part: couldn't that money expense be avoided by ... "having friends"? I mean, trading IS one of the main points of the marketing of the games (and the excuse they give for having two versions of each game). Finding someone, who can lend you a Pokemon, and getting Ditto, can't cost more than that, can it? (I still agree with the time consuming part though)

This is your best video so far. I am not a Pokémon fan, but this video opened my mind to respect this competitive scene which is very dedicated and I think that’s really cool. I am glad people can enjoy this series in a way they like, even if it’s not the way the developers thought of. As I said, great video, friend. :)

It's interesting to see how the merchandise collectables market can be THIS abused if the IP is popular enough, SPECIALLY if they collaborate with another established company And then the resellers... Ugh

I liked the video, I think you could go a bit on detail a bit more on the last section, so it shows more WHY you should be more careful with your life currency since it feels like the real meaning of that phrase could go over someone head without a little bit more of explanation

as someone who buys the albums ocasionally i do agree that the photocard industry for kpop is madness! In addition to that as someone who lives in a nordic country it is harder for us to get the albums and they cost more, which makes the whole "social" point in collecting the cards a bit useless since not many people here are into kpop this much to buy a 50 USD album of two songs just for the bits of cardboard ;-; Also i believe that there are more groups and artists not only releasing more albums per year, but also more versions of the same album with different photocard sets, making it more expensive for consumer to collect the whole set of cards.

hey ^^ great video -- !!! as someone who's been active as a kpop fan since 2016 I'm very happy to see discussions surrounding this.....!!! me personally I love photocard,, but I very rarely go out of my way to get them -- I.E : I do collect kpop merchandise because I have the luxury & privilege of having spare money each month after I pay 4 the necessities I need to well.... and that'd how I've accumulated a photocard collecting throught the buying of albums & other misc. merch that happens to include it (( some examples of stuff that in that are --- seasons greeting packages,, blankets & photobooks / photo essays )) -- because I have a large collection of well.... " kpop stuff " I naturally have a whole bunch of photocards that came from these items but --- I've never really bought / traded a photocard unless I already had a duplicate & 4 that alone,, I consider myself lucky to have not fallen down the " photocard rabbit " as I dub it.... being into kpop so long,, I've noticed something --- I mainly frequent kpop spaces online,, and a staple of these spaces --- is showing / unboxing new items in your collection --- their are accounts pretty much dedicated to doing huge 300+ hauls of photocards ALONE --- just photocard..... other than the parasocialism that forms veryyyy frequently amongst kpop fans something else I noticed is ..... I mean this in the nicest way humanly possible with zero judgment,, a lot of kpop fans have very addictive personalities --- but I see this the most w/ photocard collectors -- bulk buying albums in the 100s to only keep the photocard and sell / trash / or discard the album itself,, buying 100s of cards per month & spends 100+ on sought after or " rare " (( which I really don't think a photocard CAN be rare except in really and I mean REALLY spesific cases -- but I seem to me a minority w/ that thought )) and other things that are truly above and beyond --- people often say on kpop instagram communities " I'm broke " or joke about " dropping my whole check on my faves comeback " which I get these are often jokes but as some WHO has an addictive personality and it prone to behaviors like this --- those kind of jokes really do spur on actual buying sprees for people who have those kind of personalities same w/ " open up * blank * amount of kpop merch w/ me " videos which gets thousands of views -- it turns into a deadly cycle which normalizes spending money WAYYYYYY above the means of most for very little reward / benifit -- I'm still to this day,, working hard to make sure I never fall into that kind of trap with the help of therapy and medication but A LOT of ppl don't have access to the things I have or aren't even aware they may need them & because the kpop community not normalized but openly embraces (( to a certain degree )) overconsumption some people may feel it is expected of them to be spending 100s even 1000s each month on kpop even if that's not realistic even in the slightest. sorry for talking your ear off lololol,, I'm just really passionate about the topic because as the years go buy sense I've been a kpop fan I've seen more and more of this obssesive and objectively unhealthy behavior be normalized and even defended by arguments about supporting the artist.... I guess it just hurts as someone who's worked so incredibly hard to fix my own beahviors that resemble this and STILL needs to do work,, see people end up exactly where I could have been and actively encouraged to keep going like this BY people who should be helping them realize that behaving like this and constantly buying,, is a bad habit,, is unsustanable and is an addiction.....great video man,, keep up the good work...!!! :D

The only time I get photo cards is the rare time I decide to buy an album or membership box, and mostly when I go to concerts and people hand out unofficial photo cards that they made. I like when fans make art or jewelry more than photocards, it's always a bit like an obsession with collecting something, instead of buying something meaningful to you. The girlies spend so much money for rare photo cards 😭 idk how they manage to do it

This reminds me of the Pokémon Card Collecting Scene. It's really impressive how K-Pop bands are capable of selling this Photocards in an abusive way.
