The Utopia of the Seas has amazing food in the buffet. I will show you all of the dinner menus from the main dining room; show you actual photos of the foods my group ate; and compare the food with what is offered in the buffet on the same evening. You can help me decide. Is it better to go to the main dining room or to the buffet on this ship? (or maybe you should plan to hit both!

Great info👌👌
So nice of you
Hi...did u hv to make reservations for all the restaurants??can u make it last minute or on the day of embarkation day?
You do not need reservations for the included, main dining rooms. You just show up and they seat you or give you a buzzer to return. We typically eat dinner early, so we always got a seat soon after arrival. You DO have to make reservations for Ginza. It is the complimentary for now, but reservations are required. There are some specialty restaurants. Depending on the promotions when you book (for instance if you book the More at Sea package) usually one or more nights of dining in the specialty restaurants are included. There will be a gratuity added to your invoice at the time of booking. You can usually go ahead and book those specialty dining reservations in advance prior to boarding - and it is best to do so if you like a specific time in the evening for dinner. If you do not book in advance, go to the restaurant on embarkation day and book them. And even IF you did book in advance, it is wise to go to the restaurant on embarkation day and confirm your specialty restaurants reservations. Sometimes the online reservations are not always communicated correctly to the onboard staff.
@shirleysjourneys9505 thank you so much 🙏
The hotel looks great.
Yes, very nice hotel.
Very beautiful hotel! The rooms were wonderful! Breakfast was excellent! Very enjoyable stay!
Agreed!
Liked and subscribed. Thanks for the super informative videos. The maps with the arrows help so much!
I appreciate the kind comment. Thanks for subscribing!
This was a thoroughly informative video! Excellent job! HAL needs to see this!
What a nice compliment! Thanks so much.
Princess just did this to me for Feb 2025. Changed from the awesome Mahogany Bay to crappy Belize City. The US Govt strongly recommends NOT to travel to Belize city!
So disappointing.
Prague is a great place to visit.
I Agree completely!

Great video again! We are going on May 4 for a trip around Britain. It seems that tha cabin i choose very carefully is the exact right one. Beneath the spa at the quiet side of the ship. Now we are even more looking forward to go on our 6th cruise, 123 days to go.... ⚓⚓ Thank you Shirley.
Hope you have an amazing trip!
Sorry to say but this is not a ¨food review¨ but just a list of dishes on the menu. A review or the food is your opinion about the taste, quality, presentation etc. of the food. Not a listing and pictures of dishes. By the way, I am familiar with the ship and the quality is no more than average. Often dishes are different than should be because important ingredients are missing Ceasar Salad (wrong dressing, no walnuts, wrong cheese, no appels) etc. Some dishes are even bad like for example the Ruben sandwich which has some kind of fake pastrami in it instead of real pastrami. A wakame salad that has 5 grams of wakame on it and the rest consists of cheap white cabbage ....en I could go on and on. The dishes at the chines restaurant are actually substandard and the portions are too small. The quality of knowledge and service from the staff and specialty restaurants is substandard, especially compared to the prices (35-45 usd for a main course). on the whole, if you are accustomed and knowledgeable about the quality of food....do not expect too much. If you value lots and lots of fatty (buffet) .....dan you will be satisfied a little faster.
Point taken. Perhaps this would have been titled, “Food Options with photos.” So I’ll tack on my review: Our group ate pretty much everything we ordered. Everything was “OK.” Nothing that made me think, “This is the best thing I have ever tasted.” My favorite dessert was the carrot cake and the 7layer chocolate cake. I thought the salads were fresh and tasty, and I liked all the soups except I thought my French onion soup was overcooked. I especially liked that the toasted English muffins at OSheenans always came out hot. I did ask that they be well-toasted. None of my group was blown away by the foods we ordered at Ginza. I would try something different next time.
For your next cruise to Alaska be sure to pick a cruise line that goes into Glacier Bay National Park. Royal Caribbean and Celebrity aren't allowed into Glacier Bay. Cruises that go into Glacier Bay will see at least 4 glaciers up close and perhaps 5. Holland America, the cruise line i recommend has an indoor area at the front of the ship that is perfect for viewing the spectacular scenery. NCL also has some ships with an observation lounge that is perfect. Don't cheat yourself out of an opportunity to see Glacier Bay National Park. Thanks for sharing your video.
That is really good advice. I have been privileged to sail through glacier bay three times before I started You Tube. Glacier Bay is amazing! I sailed with Princess and I rate it right up there with Holland America.
Have you done a norway trip with holland
No. The Norway trip I did was with Royal. I think traveling with Holland in Norway would be great!
Wow! For a second, I thought NCL had put in the Ocean Blue restaurants to the Star. Ocean Blue is focused on seafood. We ate there twice on the Joy and really liked it. We are a little over 90 days from our cruise on the Star. This is going to be the first NCL cruise in which we are planning on using the laundry service. I think we get one free bag with our Latitudes rewards level.
I have watched several Utopia room tours and this is the first one where anyone has pulled out the desk/vanity to make a table! I had no idea!
Pretty cool, isn’t it!
I’m just watching all of your Utopia videos! Trying to make the best of a short cruise!
Really excited that my videos are being found. I always research before I cruise, and I try to include the things I would want to know.
Great information! I’m booked on Utopia for a 4 night and have been trying to figure out what night to book a specialty restaurant. This was a great review of the daily menus and I liked how you checked out the buffet too!
I'm so glad I could help you out!
Doing a back to back sounds interesting, but I would hope for different ports.
I found out occasionally they reroute to Labadee, Haiti - especially if they are avoiding weather. But I would not want that to be the reason for getting a different port.
@@shirleysjourneys9505 I would book the cruise just to see Haiti!

Thank you for the follow! I love sharing my travels.
Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
Hi Shirley, very informative video. It just shows how nice a person you are that you did not really lay into what NCL did. I have watched some of your other videos and really enjoyed them. My wife and I were on a Circle Iceland cruise this summer starting in the middle of July, on the HAL Nieuw Statendam (I believe a ship you had previously been on.). We were round trip from Amsterdam with stops in Norway, Shetland Islands, 5 stops all around Iceland, and a couple of stops in Scotland. So sorry you had to deal with so many changes. We absolutely loved our cruise and all the Iceland stops. We had a great time visiting Akurryri. I will watch your other videos. Again, you are a genuinely nice person! -Marty
Later in September, we did another HAL cruise from Quebec City to Boston, with a stop in Halifax. We had a great day exploring Peggy’s Cove and the Halifax Public Gardens.
We had done one NCL cruise, 15 days from LA to Miami through the Panama Canal. The embarkation and de-embarkation were both so ridiculously chaotic that we decided to probably never cruise on NCL again. Of course, the highlight of the cruise was the Canal, and the broadway shows, we say Six and Jersey Boys, and they were both great! The food was generally good, but the service everywhere was pretty bad, plus the worst thing was they really didn’t seem to care. We were in an upgraded balcony stateroom, and many times our room was still not touched when we got back to it to prepare for dinner. Not good, NCL!
We did a similar itinerary on Princess, but round trip out of New York
Thank you!!! Instant Follow. I booked my trip through TA, and I have learned more via RUclips. This post was invaluable!
@katcrow9988 wow, thank you
I’m so happy I could help! I love sharing my tips and tricks!
Thank you Shirley for an informative and well researched video. We are going in June 25 to Iceland and Greenland and your videos have been so helpful for us as 1st time cruisers!
You’re very welcome, I’m so glad it’s been helpful. You’re going to love Iceland and Greenland!
Thanks Shirley . We are sailing on this ship in 2 months .
I'm so glad you found the video helpful!
Informative video.. thanks 🙏
You are very welcome!
Hi... since I'm a firstbie cruiser, which deck would u recommend for stay with balcony and quiet room??
I always look for a cabin on a deck which is between other passenger decks. I really liked deck 9 for that reason. We did not hear noise from other guests, only noise when raising and lowering the lifeboats for use on port days when needed. If you are sailing in heavy fog areas like we did in Iceland and Greenland, the people far forward were annoyed by the fog horn every two minutes. So, perhaps mid or mid-aft would be best.
@shirleysjourneys9505 thanks so much 🤗🤗
Is there a pickleball court?
They have a sports court lined off for basketball and soccer. Our Iceland and Greenland itinerary was too cold and windy most of the time to ever see anyone up there. I never noticed if it got set up for pickleball once we made it toward the US and warmer climates.
Had the best food and best cruise on the star
Just came off a 10 day cruise on the star WOW WHAT A GREAT CRUISE WILL DEFINITELY RETURN
So glad to hear it!
Very nice. I love your description of everything.
Thanks for the compliment. I try to be as thorough as possible.
What month did you go here? This area looks really nice.
We were there the end of June
When you said horse meat and then switched to your face I almost fell out of my chair laughing.
I am going on a cruise in July next year and this is one of our stops. You have given me a lot of ideas on what to do that day. Thanks.
Nice video. Thanks for sharing,
Thanks for the video. I board for a B2B this Monday. Looking forward to 2 days at Coco Cay.
Enjoy the back-to-back! Coco Cay is great!
God bless you sister for standing for whats right and not compromising. Good on you. I'm going on the Quantum this Sunday ex Brisbane for a 5 night cruise to Airlie Beach, thanks for all the tips. GB.
I’m glad you found the video helpful! Have a great time on your cruise! I understand the Quantum just had a major dry dock. Got some new carpeting and paint and some of the areas got a major freshening up. If you think about it, come back to my video and comment if you noticed any major differences from what I posted. I also heard they were doing repairs on North Star so I hope they got it working.
@shirleysjourneys9505 we hope the North star is working to.
In my experience, Holland does a great job with the laundry. It's well worth it. Great overview, Shirley!
Thanks for the encouraging words.
Well done! Love the "whirlwind" approach. Nothing is so tedious as a ship tour that slowly walks you down all the hallways. Thanks for the combination of speed, efficiency, and thoroughness, Shirley!
I agree with you. That is why I try to be as concise and thorough as possible. I appreciate your kind words!
Thanks for making this! It's so refreshing to watch actual people try out some vacation spots without sponsorship biases.
Thanks for the kind words.
great video on cruise ship food! Thank you! and you pronounced brazo de mercedes spot on!
I appreciate the encouragement!
The past few days NCL has cancelled months of future cruises for 3 or 4 ships, starting in October or November 2025 due to "fleet repositioning". Several of the cancelled cruises included problematic stops that have been cancelled in the past including Antarctica and Madagascar.
Yes. In those cases, I feel that safety played a large factor in the decision to cancel, but I do feel sorry for the cruisers who had made plans that they now have to rearrange.
Well after 5 cruises with MSC and 1 cruise with NCL, i am sure that NCL has better food.
I agree that NCL’s food is better than MSC’s food.
Thanks! What did you pay for the thermal spa package? And how many days was that for?
They offer day passes and packages for the full length of the cruise. I don’t remember how much I paid but I’m confident it was over $20 per day.
This was very thorough and helpful. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful
Thank you, Shirley.
Thanks for commenting. It encourages me to keep doing these
Amazing well-done keep it up mam
Thanks for the encouragement
Not a good look for NCL.
Nice video. Very organized. We cruise on the Star early next year and am looking forward to it.
I’m glad my videos were helpful!
Thank you for another informative video, Shirley! We just booked our 1st NCL cruise - a transatlantic from NYC to Spain on the Escape. We’re Diamond members on Royal but decided to change it up and try other cruise lines. I’ll be scrolling thru the rest of your videos as we’ve found them to be so helpful in the past!
Congrats! We sailed on the Escape several years ago. Way before I started doing RUclips so no videos about it from me. If you like a thermal spa, you will love the one on the Escape. I remember O'sheehans to have much faster service on the Escape than it did on the Star - It may be due to the location. We are also Diamond on Royal - should be diamond plus next year. I just published a tour of the Utopia - very much like the other Oasis ships but LOUD - they are really promoting the party weekend. Still plenty to do, though, since after 10:30PM, my idea of a good time is to go to bed:) And I think the Aqua Show was the best one I have seen on the Oasis Class ships. I'm not sure where the Escape will be docked in NYC, but I do have a post about the Brooklyn cruise port when we did a New England itinerary on Princess. If it ends in Barcelona, and you are staying a few days, I do have a blog post at shirleysjourneys.com under the title of Mediterranean ports. I used to blog before I started RUclips.
@@shirleysjourneys9505Thanks so much for your reply and the invitation to visit your blog! We, too, aim to be Diamond+ with Royal within the next year or so, but since my husband and I just entered our 60’s, we’re all about peace and restfulness, so we’re excited to try the thermal spa! The NCL Escape sails out of Manhattan - a first time visit for us! As Canadians, we love the proximity to NYC/NY and Bayonne/NJ, but lately, the exchange on the dollar is killing us! 😄
