As an Interventionist, it's important to meet the needs of my students where they are at. My job is to utilize what I know about the Science of Reading and plug that knowledge into the Orton-Gillingham Approach, which are the steps needed to teach systematic and explicit phonics. In this video I'm using UFLI, however for the Word Work section, I'm incorporating 95% Group. Students are using the...

    R sound was corrected wrong. It IS “er”, not “ruh.”

      @joannacamposliteracy 27 дней назад

      I’m sure there’s different ways of explaining why we don’t say /er/. I teach my students that we don’t say /er/bot or /er/abbit. I teach /er/ as an r-controlled vowel.

    • @joannacamposliteracy
      @joannacamposliteracy Месяц назад

      Yes! When the kids come to class I choose 1 student who is my secret student. I write their name down on a paper, display it, but cover up their name. As I’m teaching I’ll say things like, “My secret student is doing an amazing job” or “My secret student needs to remember to follow rules” etc. At the end of class I only reveal the name of my secret student if they earned their mini eraser. If the secret student did not earn their reward I’ll say something like, “My secret student did not earn the reward today” and I’ll review class rules. The students are left wondering, “Was it me?” This works really well with my intervention students.

    You’re welcome. Yay 😃 I can’t wait!! After watching your videos, I think doing these lessons in small group is more effective than whole group. I love so many things about your videos so far. To name a few…I love how you have all the students participate on either a whiteboard or on paper. I love how you have them code the words with colored dots. I also love how you give them lots of praise and use the cones as a visual reinforcement. You have great classroom management and I can tell your students are engaged and are learning to read. Videos like yours are the ones colleges should be showing future teachers.
