This video show how a simple 'score and snap' method of cutting glass tile can be used to easily cut glass tile. This technique is easy, and only a few simple tools are required. You will need a straight edge such as a ruler, a protractor, a glass scoring tool, and a pair of glass breaking pliers.
Where can you buy this
What are those two tools called? Especially the cutter that looks like a pen.
The cutter that looks like a pen is called a "glass scoring tool" . The pliers are called running pliers. Both inexpensive and available online.
Here we are in April 2024...I was looking up "how to cut glass tile"...you only have a handful but I'm watching them all 😊 not one like or comment on this video?!?!? Do you see this tile?!?! I cannot STAND how beautiful that is!!! 😍 Internet's forever, my friend...these no-frills, short, simple videos are just what I want and need sometimes...useful info with a side of eye candy like this one 😂 thank you!!
Thanks Darla!
Thank, for you demonstration, vary good explain 👍
Great advice !
Thank you very much for the posting! I really appreciate that!
Thanks
Awesome! Thanks!
That helped a bunch, the corners kept breaking off. Thank you very much!
You can use a light oil for the cut, Also perhaps too much or too little pressure during scoring can do that.
Remember. Never score more than one time.
Good point!
I learned the hard way
Why "halfway" but not all the way through? Is it better than all the way through?
"halfway" is referring to the placement of the score in relation to the width of the tile.
Plss tell what oil can be use
There is special glass cutting oil, but it is not necessary. A light oil such sewing machine oil, hair clipper oil or even WD-40 will be fine. Only a very small amount is required.
Trying to rip 1/4” and 1/2” off of 3x6 glass subway tile, 5/16” thick. I can break it the short way but any time I do it the long way I’m SOL. Any tips? Right now I’m scoring it, nipping at it with glass nippers, and cleaning the edge with a grinder but it’s far from perfect
Generally the strip needs to be wider than the thickness of the glass. For the 1/2” strip you can add a little extra tension on the far side of the break so it doesnot split on you.
I've destroyed about 6 tiles following these instructions to the letter. I was so excited when I saw this but it's not working at all.
👍🏃
Looking forward to try this on my next art project. 👍
What about notching glass tile?
How about tile 8mm thick - does score and snap work?
yes it does
You are a lifesaver - thank you.
Will this work with a pressed glass tile?
Thank you!
How do you cut a curve in a glass tile
Same process, just score a curve instead of straight. If you have intricate curves you may need a special saw or even use water jet cutting.
@@bogusfarmhouse1232 I thx
What about cutting a circle?
Depends how big. Are you are trying to cut an inside or outside circle?
@@bogusfarmhouse1232 outside of 2 tiles to create a 6" hole
@@eddieaguirre2845 For a hole you need a hole cutter. Diamond Hole Saw. Or you can have it water jet cut.
What’s the max thickness of glass tile this method will work on? I tried a 45° line on 1/4” glass tile (for herringbone) and it won’t snap/break. I’ve scored it 6 times on the front & 2 on the back, still nothing, even though I can hear it scoring the glass. Tips?
1/4" should work. Don't score the back. Herring bone is tricky but still do-able. Try this: ruclips.net/video/ZCmuRi54gIE/видео.html Feel free to contact us directly if you are still having trouble.
@@bodesiglasstile8084 I don’t have that tool in the vid you linked, but I put a pencil with a thin cloth underneath the cut line. Applied full body weight pressure down on both sides of the cut line, but still no snap. I also tried using my 2-wheel glass nippers of each edge where I cut, but it just chewed the glass. I have a wet saw, but was really hoping I wouldn’t have to use it for these tiles. *not sure if it matters, but the tiles are 3”x12”
@@bodesiglasstile8084 I tested my blade just doing a straight (90°)cut on the same piece of tile, since I’ve pretty much ruined that piece now. The score & snap worked just fine. I’m lost with trying to get the 45° to work. I was really set on doing the herringbone pattern, but starting to think I’ll have to do something “normal”. 😕
Thank you so much for sharing !!! Great video!!
Interested , pls send me instructions to purchase
Hm
How do you cut a little piece off the edge to shorten it to the length of the square table?
You would need to use a wet saw with a diamond blade.
I’ve already watched several of your videos on cutting glass tile, but I need to see how to notch a glass tile. I want to use the glass subway tiles for a kitchen backsplash and will need to notch the tiles to go around outlets. I am subscribing, so, hopefully, you will see this message and post a video for me. 😀
I have the small tool at home but unable to use it. Thanks for showing us how to use it in a simpler manner.
What if you need to cut a square corner out of a glass tile? How would you go about that?
do you mean the inside corner? Woudl you like me to make a vide for that as well?
@@bogusfarmhouse1232 Correct, inside corner. That would be extremely helpful yes!
Thank you!!
Tiles catting possible this tools
Flipin awesome thank you so much for making this video it has helped me immensely Hugs
The only way to cut expensive glass tile
it is certainly the easiest for simple cuts. it can also be cut using a wetsaw and diamond blade.
@@bodesiglasstile8084 spouse was sold on herringbone pattern with glass tile. Mistake with glass tile! Twice the cuts!

Extremelly good information, thanks!! it works very well.
Love this video! Now let me get to work.
And what if is a uneven surface glass
Depends how uneven, and your expectations in terms of straightness. If you need really straight cuts in very Uneven glass, you may need a power wet saw.
Can you score and snap with angle cuts ? I'm doing my first all glass shower wall with waterfalls and what not nad herring bone done many other jobs just my first run I with solid glass
Yes. The break follows the score (within limits) We have another video that shows this.
Thanks for the reply I wish I new how to put a picture on her it came out beautiful its was over 6000 in glass tile for a 5ft by 8 ft shower my 15th or so one but first time with glass

I do believe I found how to post the pics on here but it comes up as a link to my Google drive
Hi, I’m using 3” glass mirror tiles. Can I still use the scoren snap method?
Yes, absolutely
Why would anyone get a big clunky tile cutter if this works so good?
If you do this all day everyday, tile cutters help with accuracy and fatigue...
Even though the title says 45, it was a “roughly” 45 degree cut. I wish there were technical details on how to cut exact 45 degree corners..even the video’s length was exactly 45 🙄
you would just need to use a 45 degree triangle to line it up
That's how it's done!
Where can I get one????
The tile and cutter are both available on Amazon
I used the same glass cutter and it isn't breaking for me. I put a semi soft material under the cut and I've leaned with almost all my weight on the tile and it still won't break. What am I doing wrong?
Try something a little harder and thicker, so it raises up a little more. the corner of credit card or two should do the trick. Make sure the surface is hard as well. It should snap fairly easy.
How about L-shaped cuts of glass tile?
In theory you can do it, but is tricky. To make it easier you would need a wet saw.
Hello, this is a wonderful video. If I need to make a right angle cut, will it work the same way? Should i try to round off the bend? Thanks very much
Do you mean like an inside corner? You would need a wet saw, and yes round the inside corner.
If using a wet saw how do you round of an inside corner?
