Ride The Strasburg - The Metropolitans (Extremely Rare Song) Original Master
Просмотров 8 тыс.3 года назад
"Ride The Strasburg" is an extremely rare song from 1966 performed by The Metropolitans, a small folk band from Hershey, PA. This little known song celebrating the now world-famous tourist railroad in Lancaster County, PA was included on the band's equally rare 1968 LP album "Travelin' ", and on a souvenir cassette tape offered by the railroad in the 1980's. It is from the latter that this reco...

Wow what a fun and great review. I would for sure set this up at halloween.
how do i find more of the Metropolitans’ musuc
I had this when I was a little little kid in the 80s. I've been trying to figure out what it was called for a long time. I just remembered a train set in a scary swamp and I have a very low quality picture of it. I finally figured it out!
@@Tedakin Glad you were able to solve the mystery!
Excellent video and thanks for sharing. Dave
So ever since Honkai Star rail released it was bugging me....There was an Anime I saw as a child about a space traveling train. OMG Thank you!!!! This is GREAT! I'll have to try and find this and watch it again. So much memory so big da feels.
Great vid but no Diesels...only steam :(
This should’ve been the theme song or anthem for Strasburg Railroad.
My grandfather used to have this on cassette tape!
Took you long enough dingbat 😂😂😂😂 ........ Great recap video
Took YOU long enough to watch and comment on it 😂 Glad you enjoyed it!
John I like your entry. I just started in o scale. Just space is hard to find. But I was in N scale but switching over to O scale. Check out my layout you might like it. I will subscribe to your channel Help me out to by subscribing also. 8:36 8:42
26:11 that was one of my favorite shots!! I also love how you showcased the people that were there, not just the trains themselves👍🏼❤- Drewski
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it, that shot was almost the thumbnail for the video, and yep, I like to give people credit for their contributions 👍
Awesome stuff John!
Thanks so much Carmine! Can't wait to see your layout in person!
Looks like you got to visit some fine layouts!
I did indeed! I have some very talented friends, thank you for watching!
Hey John, awesome recap! You really got some great train and layout footage. It was a wonderful last year getting to spend time with you and the fellas. I am so glad you put this video together. Great memories, thank you and I hope we get to hang together again. Bill B.

Likewise Tony! Thank you for making every event we attend enjoyable!
Thumb up
Lionel usually either makes trains or accessories based on IPs that boomers would recognize like Mickey Mouse or Looney Tunes, or stuff for the recent family friendly market like Thomas & Friends. But when it comes to mainstream Cartoon IPs like from the 80s, 90s or 2000s. Lionel has never made any trains based on Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network IPs. Nor did they ever make trains or accessories based on Disney or WB’s newer IPs from their library like Ducktales or Animaniacs. Probably because they won’t sell well, and they’ll think that the kids who will be seeing them will mock at them or associate it with the stereotype of someone who is on the spectrum in a such an degrading manner? But in the case of MTH, they’d done something that they tried to appeal to the younger crowd who weren’t into model nor toy trains. They had made the SpongeBob Railking set and it looks really good. MTH had done a great job on the set. Unfortunately it only lasted for 2 years because the orders for the train are short, and not a lot of people seem like they wanted to play with it. That is why it became one of the more obscure pieces of SpongeBob merchandise in history. And that’s what happens when you produce a toy train that is based on a more recent or mainstream cartoon IP. That makes it the only time a toy train manufacturer had ever made a train or accessory based on a more mainstream cartoon IP, and not an IP that is something from back in the day like with Mickey Mouse.
The type of toy train set that gives 'odd 'ones a bad name.
Beautiful AMV
I agree. The tmcc RS11 is in the same category. Always liked those as well.
Lionel really should bring back the placemat and background for their ready to run sets. Great video guys! - Ryan
I agree! They did do backdrops you could buy a few years ago but I don't think they still make those. Thanks for watching!
Neat set. Is this your favorite MPC set?
It's definitely one of them! Favorite set is probably one of the larger diesel sets from this era like the Illinois Central Freight or the Rocky Mountain Special 👍
I remember that set! I was 9. I got my first lionel set the year prior.[Cross County Express] My dad wouldn't get me this set cause it was d.c. 😢
Bummer! Thankfully the Cross Country is a fantastic set too!
Awesome video !!!! Now I gotta bust my set out!!
You'd better! Lol thanks Greg, hopefully you enjoyed it! It was all thanks to you 👍
Super cool and unique set! Thanks for sharing this oddity!
Glad you enjoyed it! It was definitely a fun departure from what I usually do but appeals to that traditional collector that I feel is always still with us lol 👍
This set came out in 1982, the same year as Conan the Barbarian and the He Man toys - followed by the animated series. Thus, there was a lot of interest in this type of Dark Fantasy Barbarian theme from elementary school age children to teens and young adults. I was shocked at how close the skull and snake tunnel portals and art style are to He Man! Between the artwork, applying stickers to your toys and glow in the dark toys, Lionel was trying their best to check off all the early 80s fads here.
Absolutely, it was definitely smart marketing on their part!
Seeing as how this set came out the year I was born I always thought it was a neat set. The play mat and backdrop keeps the eyes busy and the glow in the dark feature screams the 80s. Absolutely love it!!
I agree!!! Thanks so much!
Awesome set! Perfect time too for Halloween. Nice crisp box and a very crisp layout at train set. And I thought that Dr.Burnie Rubin had the mintiest of train sets but this is the mintiest of train sets I’ve ever seen.
Thanks Michael! Glad you enjoyed it, and yes it's extremely nice to see a set like this in good shape to appreciate it properly 👍
@@RetroMikado anytime John! Your voice acting by the way is so spot on✌🏻🚂
Neat set! I think the backdrop is one of the sets neatest features. Great review fellas! Bill B.
Thanks so much for watching Bill!!!
This is such a cool train set, never seen a in dept review on this set before! MPC era had some fun with these. Great review guys!
Thanks so much Blake!!! Glad you enjoyed it, I'm always trying to put out some unique and different content!
That man said “we’re no snitches” 🤣
Cause we know what they get 😂 Thanks for watching Carmine, glad you were excited for this one!
I had a fun time filming it with you. I love the way it turned out! Such a fun set to do a unboxing on.
You were a natural on camera and looked great as always! It was fantastic doing a video with you! 🤩
Great show so 80 s .
Really cool set, impressive that while the set is lower end budget Lionel did put some effort into the presentation in the box and extras they included.
Absolutely! That's what surprised me the most for sure! Thanks for watching!
There was also a water tower, a Christmas covered hopper, and a handcar with SpongeBob and Patrick figures on it.
Yes they really made a whole range of products! I forgot about the water tower!
Feels like a repaint of The MTH I Love Toy Trains Set
As someone who owns both sets, I can personally say they are very different. Only real similarities are a yellow docksider in a much lighter shade, a six car consist, and being a themed set. I love both for their similarities and differences!
Lionel, take notes
I'm 62 years old If you don't like this set,you have a problem I love Patrick star I am like Patrick I excel at being useless 😅😊😂❤😅😊
I’m sure if Nikelodeon partnered with Lionel this set may have been more well known.
That's an interesting take, I honestly wonder if they would've even gone for it, what with them already having the Disney license. I feel it just fits MTH better but it would've been interesting to see Lionel's attempt!
Every time I see this I go “yikes”
That's the reaction I'd expect/hope to get from you Carmine 😂 Thanks for watching bro!
@@RetroMikado bro I always support my bros lol even though u abandoned us on the Chi town boogaloo 🤣
@@fairestofthemalllocomotive4802 Your support in spite of my heinous act is much appreciated 🤣
What a fun set! Thanks for sharing!!
Every once and a while one needs a light moment. Thanks for watching.
@@TheTrainboardHey that's my line 😂
It’s obvious MTH put a lot of effort into this set.
They really did! Thanks for watching!
@@RetroMikado thanks for making the video. It’s interesting learning about the bizarre and esoteric trains out there.
Very cool set! I kinda wish I still had mine.
Never a bad time to get another! Thanks for watching Matt!
If Not for SpongeBob or Nickelodeon-I probably wouldn’t be who I am today. My Moto is to Never soil the good Krusty Krab name or the good Model railroad Name.
Likewise man! Thanks for watching!
