I would take the gold off the liners, put a uncoated Ti pocket clip and switch the gold thumbs studs to black. I think the washers riding on the gold paint from the liners it making it less smooth.

I hear that. After several years, learning many tricks, and just experience from doing a lot, it has gotten easier. Now, with a DLC coating adding just enough layers to throw it off, it was a bit a challenge to ensure the liner sits in the scale properly. It is amazing how several angstroms of DLC layer can throw it off just enough. That’s when looking at the vector forces can torque a liner up or down/left or right/in or out to frustrate centering or even how a lockbar engages the tang of the blade. Removing those and allowing the liners to work as they are really gives you a much better chance for a centered blade and expected lock bar engagement. For me it is 99% of the time when a PM2 or Para 3 has lock stick or is off center, it is the result of a liner having an unexpected force causing torque on the flat layout of the liner. Removing that can bring the knife back to what it was originally milled to be in its specs and becomes centered, if you did not ‘center’ it when it had the bad force torquing the liner.

Disassembling pm2’s and para3’s are always so sketchy lol. You run a 50% chance of cutting yourself getting the pivot and tube free lol. I’ve gotten bit more than a few times. Cross bar locks are the bane in my existence when it comes to scale swaps. My 940 took forever to get my rockscale critters on. Getting the washers in place and pivot through got the better of me for a while 🤣

Gosh.. those scales are so nice! Absolutely beautiful! Hopefully one day I’ll be able to get a Spyderco that I can upgrade with mods such as those and more. Looks like soooo much fun! And the result speaks for itself! I’ve got lots of research to do and tons of videos to watch and get ideas from. I think that’ll be the hardest part for me, narrowing down all of the many options and figuring out exactly what I’d want to do. But I’ve always liked the look of those critter scales.. so maybe that’s a good place to start.
