I very much remember this tragic story as if it had happened yesterday. I was overwhelmed by just how many of my own family, friends and even co-workers were affected deeply by this. And in the days to come, just how much the rest of the Country and World were affected was evident by the out cry's of anger and sadness. I will just say that for me, Thanksgiving here in America hasn't even been the same. This one really hurt to the core of my Soul. Blessings from Across The Pond In Ohio 🙏

This remembrance is a tough one to be sure Eidhne. My heart aches for Rachel's Family and her two children. Joel O'Reilly does not have a Soul. So shocking 25 years and still no conviction or likely suspect. The 1990s were such a terrible time for disappearances and violent deaths of young women. Many of us who lived and continue to live in Ireland during these times should if possible do our best to help the families of all these victims so they may bring home their daughters, sisters or mothers so they made be laid to rest.

Absolutely tragic that this horrible death happened to this young lady. I'm no detective but it really does sound as though she knew her killer as you mentioned Eidhne. With all that is available in these modern times, one would think that a clue or even better an anonymous Tip would have popped up to help Law Enforcement solve this terrible murder. An added blow was the fact that Miss Raonaid was found by her older sister. I feel so awful for her family in their continued sorrow. Doesn't bring Ms. Murray back but helps in the grieving process and closure to some degree. Live can be so precarious and especially when we least expect tragedy. The Rosenbergs were "true believers" in the cult of Communism. They were told that only Communism could save the workers from the horror of capitalism. This was in the years before the Internet. They had no idea of the Gulags, arrests and starvations occurring in Russia under Stalin. Chances are, even if they were told this, they would think they were only lies. A few years later, many American Jews went to Russia to take part in the "new utopia" of Communism. Stalin thought they were spies and anyone who even talked to them was arrested and sent to the Gulag. Their apartments were bugged and many of the transplants did not speak Russian. They had no cars and food was scarce. Most came back within the first year. They never took part in politics again and usually refused to talk about their Russian "experiences." Some were arrested themselves and ended upon the Gulag too. The Rosenbergs were completely unaware of this. Even if they were told, they would likely reject it as lies. good Video and informative, unfortunately for the couple the regular captain was on days off moving house, the skipper on that day was the company owner who did not follow the usual saftey protocols put in place by the regular captain, the initial head count was messed up through inattention there was a dive sheet to be signed by all divers on the way back to Port Douglas, it was 2 signatures short and never followed up. When the ship got to port a bag was found on board and taken up to the company office nobody looked inside it, a bus driver came down to the boat saying he was2 passengers short to transfer back to the large town (cairns) he was informed no one was left and they must of hitched a ride with someone else. 2 days later the bag found its way back on board outer edge, also on that day the Lonergans accommodation rang saying the pair had not come back from the dive trip, someone mentioned the bag and so it was opened up finding the Lonergans passports were inside! they then realised they had left them out there days ago, a huge search ensured but as you say they never found them except for some equipments and a wetsuit. I firmly believe if the regular captain had been onboard that day none of this would of happened, he was a very experienced captain with a strong work ethic it was just terribly unfortunate for the Lonergans it was his days off, her of course resigned from the company (after he oversaw the search and rescue efforts) given he knew the areas like the back of his hand, his legal council advised him to resign as he found himself between a rock and a hard place even though nothing was in his control or fault at the time. The reason I know a fairly detailed account of the events that few days is the regular Captain is my little brother.......Dx

This particular presentation really hits home for me. I remember reading this book in school as required reading in my English Literature Class. I couldn't get past the mere fact that I was reading Anne's diary and her age at that horrific time of her life was the same age as me as I read her book. I just cannot fathom ALL of the emotions that Anne and her family and those select others would have to navigate on a daily basis while they were in hiding. 20 years to the day that this horrible event took place. There are times when mere words just do not seem like enough when offering up sorrow. I have to admit that towards the of this video I went from deep sadness to unbelievable confusion wondering HOW this guy initially got a 6 year minimum to life prison term for 1st degree murder? That Judge AND The Prosecutors Office should have been fired instantly for that calamity. Another thing that stands out to me is ALL the Red Flags during his lying. How does this guy convince his family and wife to not be there in person at his graduation? So many questions that will not be answered. The mere fact that Bernadette was a juvenile when she committed this horrendous crime allowed to her to literally start her life all over at age 23 after her 7 years in prison. It was stated that she changed her identity but I'd have to think there is no way she could legally his this crime from her past. In any case, Kirsten paid a terrible price for being popular, her parents and family really would never get past the loss. And no doubt Protti's parents and family could never hide from this either. Tragic in so many ways. I'm grateful my parents taught me and my siblings to "just be yourself because everyone else is already taken." I immediately thought of the movie after a few minutes into this story. These was a bit of a write up too in a magazine when the movie was first out. That article did have some basic facts about this crime but in keeping with the Hollywood idea of not divulging too much information before people had a chance to go see the movie, the article was small in had little info about the facts of the case. As usual Enya, you Delivered The Goods in filling in the empty spaces and going so far as to talk about their life after they did their 5 years in Prison, which even for a their ages seemed woefully inadequate for the horrific crime that they did. This changed a lot here in America. Most notably that our justice system is money driven and if you have enough money you can buy your freedom; even from murder charges.

For Americans, it truly became a spectacle to be sure. Certainly was the Story for the last half of 1994 and well into and after the Trial. Was so tragic to hear about and really sad to see what a circus Show it became. Seems the brutality of these two murders was lost in the media and society. Little girl, I've got shirts in my closet older than you are. I'm 84 and I remember that time well. Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were both definitely guilty. The reason they were sentenced to death because they sold the plans for the atomic bomb to Russia, a militant Communist country, giving them the ability to instantly kill millions of innocent people, many of whom could have been U.S. citizens. Now, you can get off your soap box and go back to playing with your teddy bear!!!

As a white guy and American , I am thrilled to have these 2 great events in the history of Human Equality , that were big steps towards making the lofty wording of our Founding Documents ring true , both happen on the same Day as I did , June 19th !
