Loved watching this video. We were lucky to see the Aces at Knuckleheads, in Kansas City, MO on 11/11/11 for my birthday. We went there from San Diego, Ca knowing it could be our last opportunity to see Russell play. We went both nights and had a great time. The Aces were the best and are legendary musicians. Thanks for posting this video.

Thanks so much for this Jonathan Harrington ! It’s 1975, I’m living in Sheffield, England. My brother-in-law brings home “Stacked Deck” by a band called The Amazing Rhythm Aces” . We’d never heard anything like it, and I was hooked straight away. Side one, Track 1……”Third Rate Romance” - with lyrics that meant something, with humour. Russel Smith and the whole bunch of musical talent that made the band so good and so special. Still play them every week. Americana, before anyone invented the word (as RS said in the interview). Thanks for the music.

Russell Smith was a great original. Coincidentally, last night I pulled out my old guitar and continued what has been years of work on Third Rate Romance. He was a fantastically gifted man. I didn’t know he’d passed on.

Back in the 70's this band was in my vinyl library along with Marshall Tucker, Allman Bros. Outlaws, etc. I originally bought Too Stuffed to Jump because I thougt the name of the band sounded cool. I hadn't heard of them before that. Damned if I didn't wear out the grooves on that vinyl in a short time though!

Man, I have been listening to these guys from way back in the 70's. Great great stuff. Today's music just cannot compare. Wherher it be rock or country, you cannot tell one person or band from another. They all sound the same and the albums are all produced the same way. With the exception of a few. To me, the greatest decade for music was the seventies. Nobody sound like anybody else. Everyone had their own sound and style. Nobody sounded like the Aces, or Dire Straits, or Aerosmith, Pat Travers, and the list goes on. To me, there is no soul in music anymore, again, with the exception of a few. And that's too bad.

I was same as you, mostly in blues bands, but eventually every type of music that you can play. I used an old strat with a bass man 410, Marshall head half power, one 15 sub, and large horn tweeter, with all types of pedals, fuzz, Octavia, wah, choruses, phasers, flanger, tape echo, tube screamer, compression equalizer, back then the multifx processors where not great like today, now i just use boss gt1000, and direct, and in ears😂😂 talk about making a guitar players life easier, but the blues purest snob in me still wants that dumble steel to lug around and play 12 gauges😂

Their albums were so unique......sooooo many different jondras. Almost all songwriters and singers sound the same on their albums. That wasn't true of Russell Smith you had rock, country, jazz, piano music ect. Saw them many times and NEVER get tired of his sound. Thank you Russell⚘️
