Kalyani Expressway is looking awsome, we need more expressways like this around kolkata. Hope they start maintaining Em Bypass as they are maintaining VIP road.... Earlier I though they would not re mark the roads of VIP.... but noticing for about more than a year I observed that they put road marking where the marking is faded in VIP road also the road is kept clean. I hope they do the same for EM bypass.

Na proper road marking and koi beautification city ka, jarjhar ekdam. Aaj Bangalore, Hyderabad, Noida, Gurgaon kaha pohuch gye infra mai, Are Ahmedabad bhi isse jyada Modern lagta hai. Lanat hai chutiye WB walo pe jo saste ke chakkar mai pura state choro pe luta diye.

sector 5 in itself is a great modern area, which looks like it _could_ be great for walkability. but the main problem I see, not only in sector 5, but in most of kolkata, is that hawkers are left to do whatever they want on the footpaths. its always the footpaths filled with small huts that bring down the beauty and walkability. if those people and the ugly huts are removed from the footpaths (potentially by force because they definitely wont leave on their own, even if told to), then that alone would contribute significantly to kolkata's walkability and actually make the new developments visible, without getting distracted by the hawkers' huts. kolkata has MANY areas that are potentially *very* walkable, with a lot of wide footpaths, but the hawkers are the reason people still prefer to walk on roads. most of new town-rajarhat area i've visited seems to be hawker-free, which explains why its so walkable and beautiful part of the city. but even in new town nowadays, hawkers are starting to enter. (sector 5 is still a recent addition to salt lake city, and its already overrun by hawkers) concerned when this hawker problem will be fixed, because, after development, removing hawkers should be the 2nd priority. not even mentioning a walkable city reduces environment impact, since people prefer walking over vehicles.
