For the first time in history humanity has access to details on the most minute of subjects. My hope is to help make sense of the chaos. Humanity has embarked on an unprecedented period of population growth over the past 400 years. Over the course of this demographic transition great changes have swept the planet, no government from 1600 remaining uninterrupted until the present. This video follows the top 25 countries or political units by population at any given year. It begins in the year 1600 and continues to the present, where more than 14 times the people now inhabit the planet.

There is no decline in the population of Spain in 1810-1825, it should have lost 12-13 million inhabitants, so apparently only territories in Europe. It would have 24-25 million in 1810 with America

huh ok i started just watching and there is a really big problem of population cos 2 Spanish Habsburg population was added (most likely) 4 000 000 of people from Bohemia cos i can not see it here and Spain only had slightly more than 5 500 000 in that time which would probably be the other Habsburg regions

The borders of France didnt change a lot. So how is it possible that their population barely grew while the populations of all their neighbours exploded? In 1600 France was by far the largest country by population. In 1900 they had almost the same population as in 1600 and they are just a small country.
France had the lowest fertility rate in in the world. It didn’t grow in 19th century that much while Germany and UK exploded

@@corne1717 Because France was ahead of it’s time regarding demographics, it reached the “developed country growth” before others
Because they secularised first after the French Revolution. Less religion=less fertility, this is one of the clearest and most obvious trends if you look at the data throughout history and the world.

Am i the only one who thinks that number of population in russia exaggerated? I think its a total lie that growth rate in it could be bigger than in France for example. Russia is a northern country with terrible medicine.
