A really evil part of company towns that I don't think you mentioned, is that the workers were often not paid in US Dollars. They would be issued Company Scrip. This is essentially the town's own currency that was accepted at the stores in town, all of which were run by the company as well. This essentially trapped workers in the town forever. You can't save up money to move away for a better job if the "money" you're paid isn't actually worth anything.
This is the only reason company towns were evil. They trapped workers in a cycle of debt by forcing a dependency on the company AND not adequately compensating them. Mr. Beast is not indebting them, is giving them ample pay, and in general is not holding people financially hostage. This is not a mining town.
