Peter Lorimer interview - Life After Leeds

A short video I did (2015) with Peter Lorimer for the TV programme Life After Leeds. Regrettably, I can't find the rushes so this is what went out. He was a nice man though, always had time for the media, made me a great lasagne once and even wrote the forward on my book 'Where Are They Now'. We know where he is now. RIP Peter.

Very talented player we all know that. The jibe against Rooney is ridiculous, just look at the honours. I think Allan Clarke is HUGELY bitter.
I tend to agree with Michael. Allan Clarke had no reason to say what he did about Wayne Rooney, and the stats will show Rooney as a much better player. When I interviewed Allan, he earned most of his money doing after-dinner speaking engagements with Leeds fans. The audience wants a bit of partisan punditry, but as players once at the top of their game, there was respect there.
My footballing hero ❤❤
Automatic subtitles: Scumford United!
Peter was a lovely bloke. You organised an interview for 3pm and he was still serving lasagna for the locals at 3:30. It was always worth the wait.
What a legacy Peter left. A true pleasure to watch him at his craft.
I never asked Allan about his Lincoln days but I should have done a version about ex-players becoming managers. He did okay at Barnsley didn't he?
Notice that Allan doesn't talk about his disastrous time in charge of Lincoln!
Get in! Come back to bbc Leeds radio!
Bobby is a Legend in Derby. He gave us some great times. Brave, entertaining and consistent. Oh Bobby, Bobby!
Bobby's also a lovely bloke and full of great stories. Every town would love him.
Great footballer, even when he was in his late 30's he stood out on the pitch, very talented.
He also gave a generous foreword to the book (Leeds United Where are They Now) and asked for no fee.
John was very funny and even off camera he was telling me funny stories about the game of football. I think he appears on the Christmas special we shot so check that out too. Thanks for watching.
John stiles great sense of humor about his playing career and how he's rated

What a TOP Gentleman Sniffer Clark is brilliant bit of business by the DON
Why does he have a Yorkshire accent if he was born and raised in Dundee
I guess they call it "assimilation" :)
@@andrewh273 do you really need to lose your Scottish accent to assimilate ? Very sad as a fellow Scot seen countless Scots move Doon south very young and never lose their accent
@BertieWooster1900 saw a documentary on the Scotland squad of the 1974 wold cup he was the only player to speak with an English accent on it, I assumed he was raised in England but was surprised to read he was born and raised in Dundee, just totally lost his accent when he went Doon south sad
I think he was at Leeds from about the age of 15, so his accent changed...some people keep theirs, some don't. My oldest sister was reared in London and Essex, but has been in West Yorkshire for over 4 decades. She almost sounds like a native!
@@johnchubb1781 aye sad tae hear guy fae Dundee way a thick English accent
Norman Hunter - an incredible talent.
And a nice bloke. Always had time for the fans.
RIP Norman the “ Hunter” .... hard player ! 👍
Hi Nicholas. I filmed this at his house in Leeds. Nice enough to let me in and have a look around his trophy room although not a lot of that made it into the final edit.
'never see a sing song between fans and players again'. liverpool v barcelona oops
Whelan's accent is really weird, not sure if he picked up a mix of dialects living in the Midlands
Five seasons in the Midlands does that to a man. I agree he does have the tone of a journey in his accent. Definitely not the usual twang of a lad born in Leeds.
@@lesrowley1 it's really strange, sounds sort of South African at times. Still a great player and a good lad, who didn't quite hit the heights his talent deserved
@@JuiceTerry87 Noel De Whelan?
@@lesrowley1 haha
My brother told me Peter Lorimer passed away. I remember him because I was a Toronto Blizzard fan and went to every game. Time flies bye. He was a great player. I remember in 1979 we got knocked out by the New York Cosmos, Beckenbauer, Seninho, Chinaglia and Carlos Alberto. Eusebio was playing for Toronto Metros Croatia in 1976 because at Benfica he was only making 150 pounds a week !
Yes on both counts. Lovely man. A statue would be a fitting tribute.
Yeah a statue at Elland Road would be a great tribute to such a club legend.
What a player, what a man. Will miss him but treasure the memories. RIP Peter.
Indeed. Of all the ex-Leeds players I came across, he was the most generous with his time. He came to my Leeds United quite frequently and I had no qualms about giving him free tickets for his family and friends (and raffles) who all came to the show on the back of Peter's recommendation. It was my small token for all the goals and joy he brought to my professional journalistic career.
R.I.P PETER....A LEGEND OF LEEDS
Allan Clarke and that white kit did it for me as a kid and I've followed Leeds ever since and still a S/T holder and I'm not from Leeds, Allan will always be my biggest hero thankyou Sniffer.
Dead handsome..
I presume you are talking about Jon N. Lovely bloke to chat to also.
It was a joy to make and meet some of my boyhood heroes. To discover they were very down to earth and normal was like gold. Ultimately they like my friends, easy to talk to and generous about their experiences at Elland Road.
This is such a great series of interviews
" That fat boy at Man Utd " 😂😂😂😂........ Allan you stand in the footballing hall of fame ! Great striker and you and the whole Leeds Utd team were a privelige to watch ...... Good health !
Bobby was a lovely and amenable chap. The location for the interview was all last minute and yet he waited for the equipment to arrive. In that time I was able just to chat with him about football and coaching. CAme over as genuine and interesting so I hope the move to the south coast worked out for him.
Allan Clarke was idolised by many of us back in Lancs in the 70s ...and I mean idolised. Brilliant player.
Allan was a great player and when I look back at some of his goals - which I did for research - you see how many needed skill and composure. He's not on TV enough.
@@lesrowley1 I agree. All football books listing great finishers ignore him purely and simply because he played for Leeds. Some of his goals were almost artistic and he seemed to glide on the ball, arms outstretched, holding his cuffs. He could also pass the ball like a cultured midfielder. How he only played 19 times for England is a joke really as he scored 10 goals in those games, but Don was a bit reluctant to release him I believe. Allan is also a very nice bloke who has all the time in the world for the fans.
@@stephenoldfield7124 I've interviewed a few footballers over the periods and Allan and allow you into their world of football. Stories he told were like the first time airings and you speak to him long enough and you can see behind their eyes the real love of football. I'm a @Lesrowley_
@@lesrowley1 fantastic. I fon't think there has ever been a really deep biography on Allan and I'd love to write it one day ..or wish somebody would. I have the David Saffer book and Allan's books from the 70s, but he's never really been done justice. I agree on the seeing his love of the game. I could listen to this guy all day.
He was a lovely bloke - even made me a cup of tea.
Probably the best forward in England back in the early 1970s
Love watching Allan Clarke in his early 1970s pomp. So quick, so smooth, so composed. He LOOKED like a football hero, as well. And I'm a Liverpool supporter.
He doesn’t like man united much does he?
He does not hang back when criticising Manchester United. He was a true gent inviting me into his home and great to get in front of the camera. Thanks for commenting on the programme.
Whelan come back to Cov mate as we are suffering a goal famine.
Whelan, Whelan, whelan
Remember Pete Gunby from Selby Town in the 60s !
At least is better than Hetalia Paint it White
Legend our noel get innnnn!!!!
Whelan looks old. Weren't he an alcoholic?
He had a problem yes
Not any more . He a gambler now
The demons are gone. I interviewed him at a bar and we drank coffee - his Stella Artois these days.
Nice one John, I was at Wigan that day... great goal, great performance. To play for your club, and Leeds, what an honour. Appreciate it! And cheers Bobby, what a season 1989-90... you played your part mate. Fantastic... They could have showed some of the highlights of your games.
Alan was a really nice bloke and invited me into his home in Scunthorpe to do the interview. He could have gone on for hours with great stories of the 70s and 80s football.
@Daniel Lawson I was the same but met him twice. Once on a stadium tour and later at the special meeting for 1972 club ( I contributed funds to Don's statue so we were invited to meet the team). He recognised me from earlier that year and was just a friendly and very down to earth bloke. Always immaculately turned out as you can imagine. Spending a full afternoon with that team was something else.
Even Clough in his autobiography recognized Allan Clarke in Cloughs opinion was the nicest guy at Leeds
Who put the ball in the Arsenal net? Allan, Allan Clarke! Legend!
As a Coventry fan I remember the good old days with young Noel Whelan. A great guy.
BVargas78 do you think he done well at Coventry
I think he did. He had some personal issues and lost his regular place up front. A problem was Whelan would play well alongside Dion Dublin up front. But wouldn't play that well alongside Huckerby. I think it's because Dion was a holding player who would help set up other forwards. They ended up playing Whelan as an attacking midfielder or as a sub towards the end of his time at Coventry, which didn't suit him well. Had they kept him alongside Dion i think Whelan would have started scoring again.
BVargas78 great post mate. When I saw whelan come through at Leeds i thought he was destined for the top. Must have been exciting times for Coventry fans 1996 with the players Ron Atkinson was signing
Yeah, it was. And even though our positions in the tables back then didn't always reflect it, we were playing some exciting football.
Yeah, he put together a good side, Gordon Strachan, Gary Mac etc etc. Wonder why it never really jelled. Always had a soft spot for Coventry after you beat Tottscum in the 1987 FA Cup Final. (I'm Arsenal).
Listen to me I have a ham license and am a electronic technician. No radio receiver or transmitter can work enclosed in a metallic conductive enclosure. It is known as a Faraday Cage. Unless your bike is made from carbon fiber or a nonconductive metal (aluminum or steel), this sucker will not work hidden inside a metal enclosure, where he just put it. Like to poster said this is a prototype, not a know working customer proven device.
It's stalled somewhat. Plenty of retailers were interested and it even sparked a buyers database to prove ownership of purchase. The model I made as a prototype couldn't be sourced for parts to bring down the price to under £10. Still looking for investment and technical know-how.
Hi Les,how are you getting on with it?
To ten feet????!!!! Shitty asf
he could easily make the battery replaceable, or even rechargeable. he's setting it up for on going re purchase business model.
