This is the Switchyard extension at Churchill Falls. It is a tapoff of the 735kV to the new 315kV lines for Muskrat Falls. It is almost completed. This summer I had the privilege of helping commission the 700kV breakers 700-13 & 700 -14.

Very nice to see Churchill Falls. Was there about 50 years ago. Would like to see where the construction camp was, remnants. Looks like a nice place to live now as it was then. Airport, is there still an abandoned plane on the rocks at the runway end?
Hi Richard Thanks for your comments. The construction camp has been removed. The only remaining part is the mess hall which was turned into a storage warehouse. I think the plane you are referring to at the end of the runway was at the Twin Falls runway which has been out of service for about 40 years and the plane was removed prior to closing.
Brings back lots of memories. Lived there as a kid between 69 and 71. Still sad when I see pictures of the falls these days compared to back then.
How could this be 7 years old and only have 44 subscribers!! The drone photography is a magically trip. . . .especially the surface water eddy currents. It is on my wishlist to see the entire Churchill Falls complex from the air. Ken, please consider uploading more of your CF drone videos.
Very Nice!
Hi, I love the video. I am going to move there in 3 weeks I am so excited to go.
Hi Jonathan, So glad you are excited about going to Churchill. They already had their first snowfall. Dress warm and take care.
Great video 👍 Who’s playing the Tom Petty?
Thanks for your comment. It has been a few years since I did this video and am not sure where I got the music but I think it may have been from a royalty free site called FreeMidi.org
Meravigliosa..............
grazie molto
I was born here in 1956! Amazed at the very localised waves inside the iceberg.
I was BORN in Old Perlican in 1956!
Wish someone would take video of the Towncenter and all the changes around town
Hey ken, how big does this river get in the springtime?
Hey Luke, it would swell from the spring runoff of course which would last about 6-8 weeks. I am not sure about the volume of water. There is only one river that is feeding it now which is the Julienne river. Pre 1960's a greater volume used to run through, now most of the water is diverted for use at the Churchill Falls Generating Station.
Ken Dalley thanks a lot for the info! Was this taken during the runoff?
@@lukepomeroykayak No video taken at the end of Aug beginning of Sept. I don't think there would be white water during the spring runoff except a greater volume going over the falls.
Beautiful land!
I am surprised HQ would allow such great photography to be put online
Hydro Quebec has you tube videos of their own including James Bay.
Beautiful
Thank you so much for sharing to Newfoundland Iceberg Reports. This is amazing!
Ken this is so beautiful hopefully soon i get to see so icebergs up my way . Thankyou for sharing i love it!
Well done. I hiked into the Falls in September 2017. Do the Falls ever flow fast anymore?
Only when there is a need to spill water from the reservoirs or Jacopie forebay.
thanks who long does it run for?
It is rated for 23 minutes air time. The phantom 3 Advance is now obsolete. The closest one available now from DJI is a Phantom 4 advance rated at 27 minutes flight time I believe.
what drone did you use ken?
It is a DJI Phantom 3 advance.
But it was really nice video
Thanks, the damage that was done by the ice is not visible and I don't think it was to bad since she managed to get back to port and then was anchored off for some time before the storm which blew her from her anchorage occured. You can see she is rusted through at the water line. Regards Ken
It's hard to see the damages she's aground you can't see em.
Awesome Job Ken, I visited all these sights many times but never seen them like this :)
Thanks Robert
Nice video. I always wondered what the iceberg actually did to the Kyle, story goes (as you mentioned) that repair costs was to high. But why? Looking at her she doesn't look that damaged, I mean hell if I didn't know the Kyle story, just by looking at it I'd never of guessed she hit a iceberg. She could float, she could steam. So yea that part of the story always had me curious. Exactly what was done to her to warrant such a high repair cost? I almost wish I could see the repair logs of the Kyle to see what she needed. lol
Thanks Justin, I don't know what the damage was either or if the cost was greater than the worth of the Kyle at the time. I would say that the insurance company may have had a say in it as well. Cheaper to write off than to repair.
Yea. She was a steamer right (actually isn't Kyle like 1 year newer then the Titanic? Or am I mistaken), either way by the time she ran aground wasn't diesel starting to take over at that point anyway? Maybe the ice berg was the best thing to happen to her as it lead to her running aground and becoming a monument. Had that not happened she was probably soon destined for the scrape yard regardless as newer tech took over. Still though, curious what damage she actually had. But I guess we'll never know.
That's the Canadian government for y'all they dont take care of history
Ken just want to say thanks for all the great Churchill Videos. My family and I were amongst the first families to live there. I went to Churchill school then Eric G Lambert later. I was on the river the day they closed the dam just above the falls. We walked down and there were cuts in the rock with trout as big as I was at the time. There were rocks that were perfect spheres from years caught in whirlpools. We used to hike down and fish where the tail race is. There wasn't even a trail there. My Dads 86 now speaks of Churchill all the time would love to get one last fish in before he moves on. These videos will certainly lift his spirits thanks so much!
Dave B. Thanks for your kind comments. I must have been there at the same time. I moved up there in June of 1970 and didn't leave until I retired in 2011, and have been returning each year since. Glad you enjoyed them and give my regards to your father. This is part of the reason for doing the videos so the people who have passed through would be able to see the changes and remember (fondly I hope) the time being in Churchill.
Nice job Ken.
That was awesome! I left Churchill Falls back in '89 and from time to time searched for photos or videos of the town. By far the best view of the town on the internet. Things have changed quite a bit since I've left. Thanks for this.
Thanks Elton really glad you enjoyed watching.
Wow! That was awesome 😊.... I enjoyed that, thanks.
Lovely! Damn..... I wish I had family/friends in Churchill Falls...... a lovely place to spend my summers.
Hello!!!!! from the Northeast here in the U.S. So glad I found this cause I have been search for info on this town and researching Labrador. I'm SO interested in travel to Labrador this summer (2016). You guys are SO far away and such a beautiful place. Fascinating.......
+James Von LaRough Glad you enjoyed it.
+Ken Dalley ..... very much so, many of us here only dream about that part of Canada and wonder what life is like. It would be great to see it in the Fall as well.
Turns out you know my wife and her family well. She's actually in CF as I type this message to you visiting her niece who just had a baby. I'm married to Phil and Mary's daughter Sandy. :) Apparently you don't live very far from us at the moment. I was telling San about your videos and she said they must be good because you've always had amazing camera equipment and a good eye for photographs. :)
+NfldBiker Yes. The wife was talking to Sandy at the hospital last year. We are living in Bay Roberts but return to CF a couple times each year.
Now that's pretty cool! I've spend many a days and evenings fishing the Tailrace when my wife and I would visit her parents. I really enjoyed this and your other CF videos as they brought back so many great memories. Thanks for sharing these!
+NfldBiker Thanks, glad you enjoyed them.
A short video of the tailrace.
Great job Ken! I'd like to see one done from at the end of camp site taking in the view of tail race and the 735 line to switch yard then panning accross to see the land scape up so far as the Ski hill creek, then pan back catching how the town is settled from the perspective. :)
nice and beautifull. i am in ontario mississauga btw
+Ali Hassan Glad you enjoyed it.
Very nice work Ken. It's been along time since I've seen the place, and a lot has changed.Almost brought a tear to my eye.
Really nice ken!
