Hey just leaving this comment here for those who thought their gear was gone for good You get your gear back later on in the main story line, more specifically you get your horse armour/saddle bags in the tale heart of the jito. In the start of the mission you get to pick your new horse with the name. Hopefully this helps those who were also confused.
