I very often find myself enjoying the instrumental versions of songs more throughly than the official full song itself; songs like Art Deco by Lana Del Rey, where the music behind the lyrics is so complex and cinematic yet, in my opinion, is overshadowed by the singing and stands better on it's own. I mean no offense or disapproval toward these singers, I just tend to think their creative vision for the song doesn't always complement the music in a way that I find most audibly flattering. Even with some of my favorite full songs, I'll still often wish I were listening to the instrumental instead. Thus, I went searching for the In This Shirt instrumental. I knew I adored the composition of this song and wanted to hear the instruments on their own and perhaps enjoy the song more for it -- but I'm amazed to say that didn't happen. I think everyone here can agree on the brilliance of this song's musical composition but, wow, the lyrics and singing delivery really take it over the top! I genuinely -- and I never say this -- feel like this version pales in comparison without the cadence and emotion of the song's lyrics. I truly think this full song is a masterpiece! I was happy to see the way it resurfaced a few years ago on social media for editing's sake, but I still feel like it's greatly underrated. I'd love to hear it in films and television; I hope it's not too late for that.
