This conversation between a young musician and instrument maker Grzegorz Tomaszewicz is both profound and radiating with enthusiasm and joy. Grzegorz finds the utmost fulfillment in his highly focused craft, though it comes with its challenges. His work involves transforming naturally weathered and seasoned wood from his Polish homeland into complex historical wind instruments, such as the *cornemuse* (a double-reed instrument) or a four-part wooden transverse flute. He shares how, as a child, he was a gifted maker of slingshots and bows and arrows, later receiving a grenadilla flute as a gift, which marked the beginning of his journey. After years of touring as a musician in an ensemble for historical performance, he was driven by a longing to craft ancient wind instruments. For several decades now, he has devoted himself to instrument building, working entirely on his own. This deeply resonated with me. As an amateur recorder player who first held a recorder at the age of 60, I can well understand the sense of enchantment Grzegorz felt when he first encountered his grenadilla flute.
