    Why do they sometimes split into 4 leaves and sometimes only keep 2 leaves?

    • @fourcolor223
      @fourcolor223 3 месяца назад

      Once they have been growing a few years (2-3) they will randomly decide to split into four new leaves rather than the usual two leaves. I guess it’s their way of growing and spreading just like any other plant.

    This is very helpful and interesting! I was starting to wonder if it’s normal that my lithops takes so long to split. If the base becomes very shrivelled during splitting would you recommend watering? I‘ve read that you should never water when it splits but I‘m worried cause it’s so dry looking already and still in the beginning of splitting.

    • @fourcolor223
      @fourcolor223 10 месяцев назад

      Thanks! Actually, during the three months it took to record the splitting timelapse there was a period ( about 2/3 through the video ) where I did give them a couple of thimblefuls of water because the splitting seemed to be stalled/stuck. They didn’t suffer from my mini-watering and the splitting resumed at its normal pace afterwards. So you should feel free to give them a little water. Unlike many Lithops growers I don’t subscribe to the idea of ‘not watering until they are really wrinkled’. I like my Lithops to stay plump looking!

    I saw something that said you put the pot in a bowl of water after the seeds have been put in then you take it out. How often are you meant to water the lithops after doing that?

    • @fourcolor223
      @fourcolor223 Год назад

      Water the soil well to start with then scatter the seeds on top and cover with a poly bag for a few weeks. Don’t leave the pot soaking in water. There’s an earlier comment for this same video where I gave a link to Reddit ( there I gave details on how I grow from seed )

    Love it! How about another video with Lithops blooming and flowers shriveling. Of course seeds take up to 6+ months to ripen! Also can spray water on a mature seedpod and see it open up would be cool too. Thanks.
