Hi Bruce, both pronunciations are correct, I've always heard (and always said) controversy, with the stress on the second syllable. I wouldn't want people to think its wrong after reading your comment, so both are correct, just so you guys know ☺️

It’s spelt differently outside of North America. Aluminum in the US, aluminium nearly everywhere else.

Americans drop letters in words, Brits don't. It's Aluminium, and spelt as such.

Alumium is the original name. Scientists change the name to the British Aluminium. The original guy that found the metal renamed it from Alumium to Aluminum in a text book.
